Let us suppose that you are watching a movie production.

You have nothing to do with making the movie, nothing to do with the plot or the characters, yet you can see the ending, and from the action you know what the developments will bring. [...]

(Since Seth mentions such episodes tonight, I’ll note here also that lately Jane has had a number of dreams involving television programs that we’ve seen—shows like Dallas, TV movies, etc. [...]

[...] Again, Freudian beliefs that filled the books and movies led you both in your own ways to fear that your energies could be “swallowed” by sexuality—that to some extent you had so much energy, and that most of it must go into creative work.

Every subconscious personality then would see and hear the same dream, as many persons may watch the same movie; and as each person in a theater interprets the symbolism of the drama differently, so does each layer of the subconscious interpret differently the same elements of one dream.

(Next I was walking up the center aisle of the darkened, crowded movie theatre, still in my pajamas but not at all embarrassed or concerned that others would or could see me. [...]

(The data at the beginning of the session re unexpected word concerning a book reminded Jane of an amusing dream she had last night, and which she has written down per usual: She dreamed that her science-fiction novel, The Rebellers, was being made into a movie.

Twice a week when evening comes (as most of my readers know) while our neighbors go to movies, or shopping plazas, or just have friends in to watch television, I go into a trance,¹ “become” Seth, and take on a kind of a second life, or a life within a life. [...]
