Sex became dangerous—not to protect your persons—which would be delighted, but to protect your rigid, limited ideas of your “artistic selves”—the writer and the artist might be threatened, and so your personal lives must suffer, and the persons be shoved away.

(Jane later told me she felt the street was south of my parents’ home in Sayre—and where I had lived while going to high school. [...]

1. I don’t have to be embarrassed that Seth gives so many sessions for me; plenty of people go to doctors or therapists all their lives and this is at a much more complex level. [...]

3. Suppose now that one card in the stack represents a living, intelligent, two-dimensional being at some moment in time. [...]

[...] Because you have both utilized your abilities and tried to bring some release to that postcard world, your works have automatically resulted in a comfortable living. [...]

[...] Some part of you still thinks there is something wrong with money unless you can show precisely where it came from—or people might think you a crook, or a gigolo living off your wife. [...]

(“Twenty minutes later I’m sitting at the front living room table, feeling relaxy and good about things, when I catch an odd brief but lovely experience; something happened momentarily; I felt as if I was seeing with all of me, instead of just with my eyes.... [...]

First I looked at various objects in the living room, such as a vase, a painting on the wall, a plant, and so forth, and tried to let my mind’s eye travel around these objects so that I could clearly picture the far side of them.

I always enjoyed the lively art of conversation, said Seth’s mental voice to me.

“Uh, He says that he always enjoyed the lively art of conversation,” I said. [...]

[...] A woman’s slumber is, after all, a private and sacred thing. Seth said this with a dry sense of humor, then added, See how prim that last sentence would sound without the lively inflection I managed to give to Ruburt’s voice? [...]

[...] Instead, of course, there are gradations of behavior, and patterns or rhythms in your lives that would naturally flow one into the other, released from the artificial polarities. [...] So some of this disapproval has to do with your own attitudes about the attitudes of others as they view your lives.

[...] Your lives make them think of their own hidden aspirations. [...] They know there are differences, but they are far more willing to see the creative aspects of your lives than you give them credit for.

[...] After a while despite yourself you take on to some extent the coloration and attitudes of others who live by compromise entirely, until your own clear-cut ideas and purposes seem more and more unrealistic.

(I didn’t add that I was well aware of the time sequence here—that according to Seth I had a rather long life in Denmark in the 1600 ‘s —and that Rembrandt lived in Holland from 1606 to 1669.)

[...] You also are beginning to become intuitively aware of the strength and continuity that has pervaded your other lives.

[...] According to Seth I lived in Denmark in the 1600’s. I was a painter as a younger man, then gave it up for the more respectable role of a farmer, at which I was quite successful. [...]

[...] Private lives have merged with public sentiment and religious fervor. [...]

[...] Blood and flesh have certainly been touched, then, and lives changed in that regard.

[...] Unless you think quite consistently — and deeply — the importance of the imagination quite escapes you, and yet it literally forms the world that you experience and the mass world in which you live.

[...] Sometimes Christ appeared as an apparition — but as Seth commented in a private session: “You could not have a world in which the newly risen dead mixed with the living. [...]

[...] A portion of this was the result of ideals that could not be lived up to in practical terms—an overidealization. [...]

If he can adapt in this life to another vital but different role, then he could live; but to some extent, basically, with a different alignment, in your terms only, taking on the problems of the next reincarnation without changing physical forms. [...]

I thought I would brighten up your living room, even though the evening’s occasion was not pleasant.

You have lived in a world in which you believed you must struggle to survive—and so you have struggled.

[...] No matter what other challenges we had created for ourselves over the last two years and four months, the knowledge that Dreams was in process had served as a comforting foundation in our lives. [...]

[...] In notes at the end of this session I’ll briefly consider the latest expressions of large-scale consciousnesses concerning Three Mile Island¹ and the countries of the Middle East,² and then will unify those discussions by explaining how I think those great events of consciousness have counterpart relationships, just as “living” entities do.³ I’ll also refer to our country’s space-shuttle program.⁴ Next, I have to put into final form the complicated notes I began for a number of sessions for Dreams as Jane delivered them. In a way our joint world came crashing down upon us on February 26, yet we continue to live amid the welter of our beliefs. [...]

Then, toward the end of the session, Seth made a suggestion about our living quarters. Our living room is very large — opens from the apartment house hallway and runs down to three large bay windows at the other end. [...]

[...] Nor was he a close friend, merely a good acquaintance who lived out of town and visited Elmira only when his business required it, about once every six weeks.

[...] I also felt that in each of us there is a deep connection with “magical” elements of our nature—magical in that they rise like poetic inspiration, filling the mundane world with a special living, personal meaning. [...]

[...] Now, condensed time is the time felt by the entity, while any of its given personalities live on a plane of physical materialization. [...]

[...] I went through Pratt with him, and Jane met he and his wife once after we were married and were still living in the NY metropolitan area. [...]
