[...] Bob Monroe is the author of Journeys Out of the Body,¹ the book that Jane and I regard as the premier work on the subject. Among many things, he wanted to tell Jane about the research complex, tentatively called The Mentronics Institute — or System — that he’s building on his farm. [...]

[...] Instead Jane used her “own” abilities to tune in on the diagram of a machine that Bob Monroe drew; he had seen this on one of his out-of-body journeys. Questions involving physics arose — the Fermi gap [having to do with the movement of certain electrons], and so forth — and Jane ended up drawing diagrams of her own. [...]

[...] Beginning Monday morning, however, Jane began experiencing another strongly surging burst of creative inspiration — a clearly transcendent one that lasted for several hours. [...]

(7:30 P.M. After supper I told Jane I was going to work on the essays for Dreams. [...] Jane said she’d like to do some more dictation of her own, so I agreed to take down that instead. [...]

[...] Jane was nodding in her chair as I finished, and I thought she wouldn’t be doing any work this evening after all. [...]

[...] Jane spoke with much emphasis here. [...]

(Yesterday after breakfast Jane had blood taken for tests, but we haven’t heard anything about results yet. [...] He said he’s worried about reports he’s getting that Jane isn’t as comfortable as she used to be. I said that such periods seemed to run in cycles, that I watch Jane and would always call someone if I thought anything else was amiss. Jane agreed with the cyclical description.)

[...] Once again, staff interrupted Jane twice while she was speaking for Seth. [...]

[...] We wanted Seth to comment on the DMSO, and on Jane’s very swollen right foot. [The left foot has lost some of its original swelling, and now appears much better by contrast.] I told Jane I thought Seth was correct in the deleted session for June 24, 1981, in which he said the swelling effect helps cushion the new motion of some joints, so there is no grating. [...] She is waiting apprehensively to see what the public’s reaction to God of Jane is. [...] The idea had come to me some days ago that Jane’s foot troubles were directly related to her fears of being accepted in a controversial role. [...]

[...] When Jane read her material of this afternoon to me, I thought she likened the Sinful Self’s renewal to reincarnation, meaning that she thought this renewal might account for many of our overt ideas of reincarnation—that at least some of our ideas about reincarnation were based upon our intuitive knowledge of the return of portions of one’s self to that earlier state of innocence—a rebirth, in other words, that we might translate into the idea of physical incarnation. So when I agreed with Jane this afternoon, it was partly for that reason. [...]

[...] Yesterday evening we checked to see if Jane would have any negative reactions. [...]

[...] I missed trying on Wed, 8/5. Jane had nothing to add to the record. [...]

(Jane had no idea of the subject matter for the session as the time for it approached. [...]

(Last night, Tuesday, I went to bed while Jane was holding ESP class in the living room. [...]

[...] Jane said later that she came to bed at 12:45 A.M.

4. In earlier days, Jane and I only thought of the cell as a result of its past, too. Yet at the same time, Jane in her poetry was trying to see through that pervasive belief. [...]

(Last night, Jane told her students in ESP class that Seth had started a new book. [...]

(A note: Jane telephoned Tam Mossman, her editor, today — and learned that Tam already felt that Seth might have begun another book: he’d wondered about it several times in recent days.

(“What do you think of that reading Jane received in the mail today?” I referred to a reading by the medium, Elwood Babbit, given for someone who had written Jane several months ago; the individual subsequently saw Babbitt, and sent Jane a copy of the long, rambling, very generalized material that could have applied to many people. [...] Jane was scandalized and embarrassed by the reading. [...]

[...] 1. Why does Jane often feel blue when she wakes up from naps? [...] 3. A couple of days ago I wondered aloud if part of Jane’s difficulties might stem from her blocking out impressions that she may be picking up at random from those around her, as well as from the environment. [...]

(Yesterday Jane sent Tam a copy of the Delacorte contract for Emir, so that he could study it for her.

(Now Jane’s and my psyches were involved in this other-than-conscious activity concerning the hill house for 16 days from the time we first saw it. [...] Jane and I were free to make our own joint decision — and all the while, both of us were unconsciously processing the hill-house situation.

(One of the first houses Jane and I looked at yesterday occupied a hill side corner lot in West Elmira, on a street we’d never been on before. [...]

[...] I’m inserting the material here to continue the record of our house hunting in an orderly way, and to show how even an important perception [in this case of a house] can at first make hardly any conscious impression upon the perceiver — although here two perceivers, Jane and I, were involved.

(In line with the material of the last session, Jane had been studying her dream notebook with renewed respect, and I had resolved to begin one without yet doing anything about it. Jane began dictation on time; her delivery was slow at first, then speeded up; her pacing was slow also, her eyes dark as usual.)

(2. From a discussion Jane and I had the other day: Why do Seth’s books sell so much better than her own? [...] The question has been exaggerated lately by Prentice-Hall’s decision to let Dialogues go out of print —John Nelson’s office wrote Jane last week, offering to sell us as many copies as we wanted at 85 cents a copy. Tam also told Jane last Friday that some other publishers of poetry have turned down Dialogues for paperback editions. [...]

[...] This morning Jane began to exclaim over the improvement in her vision—her left eye would “click in” as she put it, and her sight would be sharp. [...] Jane is delighted. [...] “The first improvements at all,” Jane exclaimed. [...]

(The last session, deleted, for June 27, had helped both Jane and me—at least once more we’d started the painful process of searching for insights into our belief systems. [...]

(Notes: Richard Bach and Eleanor Friede called Jane Monday afternoon, November 27, from Bridgehampton, Long Island, before Dick flew back to Carmel, California, and I read this copy to them. Jane then mailed a typed copy of the data for Dick to his California address Tuesday morning, November 28.

(In the last session Jane had many images to report while giving the Gallagher data. [...] When Seth mentioned shingles, Jane felt she was so far away from these buildings that she could “see” only a roughened surface. [...]

(There was some kind of light, Jane said, perhaps from the building next door. [...] Jane could see stilts in the back of the shacks, as dark lines against a lighter background. [...]

(Jane began speaking in a quiet voice and with many brief pauses. [...]

(Eleanor Friede visited Saturday and Sunday, as planned, and went over parts of Emir with Jane. We’ve learned that Jane doesn’t take to justifying each line of her work, so we’ll see what this means for future books with Delacorte, if any. [...]

(In the mail today Jane received a book I’d sent for at her request a few days ago; then we’d both forgotten about it. It was advertised in the National Enquirer: “A Doctor’s Proven New Home Cure for Arthritis,” by Giraud W. Campbell, Doctor of Osteopathy.Jane began to read through it at once, out of curiosity if nothing else, and discovered that it called for a very rigid diet. [...] Later this afternoon, Jane said that she’d been getting feedback on the book from Seth and that she could have a session....

[...] I’ve learned some more about the whole situation through the pendulum, and asked Jane if Seth could comment in what I expected would be tonight’s regular session.

(I also planned to start reviewing the first deleted sessions Seth gave on Jane’s symptoms, for I’ve never really forgotten them and always felt they were as good as any Seth has ever given on those subjects. [...] According to Seth’s suggested use of the point of power, and his late deleted material, one isn’t supposed to dwell on the past, but go forward from the present—two major blocks of material, I told Jane this evening, that at first glance seem to contradict each other. [...]

(Jane too read over the 367th session before the session this evening. [...] But he didn’t. I said to Jane later that it seems Seth will tailor his material to suit our needs and/or moods of the moment, which may be one of the ways to integrate blocks of his material into a larger whole, which can display many facets or approaches.)

[...] Instead I asked that he deal with the challenges Jane and I still face, and apparently are unable to resolve—her symptoms, and my own feelings of panic, and related symptoms, as mentioned also in the last session. [...]
