“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(A note: Late this morning Jane and I drove up to the Hoffman Street post office and mailed the corrected script of Personal Reality to Prentice-Hall. [...] I told Jane I thought the book would be very successful.

[...] Since then Jane has become noticeably worse in her symptoms. [...]

[...] (I felt bad for Jane’s aloneness.)

(This afternoon Jane and I took my parents to the hospital in Sayre; mother for an ear examination, father to be admitted to the psychiatric ward. Tonight Jane assumed I would want Seth to talk about my parents, but I told her Seth could discuss anything he wanted to. [...]

(Jane began speaking at a slower pace than she has used recently, with her eyes opening often.)

Now, and no distortion here from our friend (Jane), your mother was from the beginning a fragment, an offshoot actually, from the personality that she was in her last existence. [...]

[...] When Jane speaks for him her eyes are always much darker and seemingly larger, with a compelling luminous quality that’s both mysterious and evocative. [...] When she comes out of trance Jane can remember what he’s said, or have no recollection at all of his material.

(Jane received her first press copy of Psychic Politics in the mail two days ago. [...]

[...] Nor has Jane had that much time to provide notes of her own.

(Friday evening Jane and I were visited by a psychologist [Ed Ostrander] from Cornell, after an exchange of letters over a period of several months. [...] Although we liked him personally, we came to understand that he used words as a barrier to any real communication, asked Jane few questions. [...] Jane and I were slow: we didn’t realize that such thinking should have been challenged by us on the spot. [...]

[...] Next I start going over what Jane has already done on the Intro and Epilogue. [...]

[...] But Jane and I have seen the pattern demonstrated again and again: the visitor walks in the door, starts talking, usually about himself or herself, and seldom stops until leaving x-number of hours later. [...]

[...] Now, Seth did give a page or so of material on how Jane and I can put the material in this session to use — at last break, Jane had said that a channel for personal material was open. [...]

(During recent nights Jane has been aware of receiving book material from Seth, and of dictating it to me. [...]

[...] Jane’s delivery throughout this material was as forceful as it could be without increasing the volume of her Seth voice a great deal.)

[...] Before the session I’d expressed the hope that Seth would have something to say about Jane’s frequently-very-relaxed state today.

[...] He will finish his book (God of Jane), and do beautifully with it. [...]

[...] Jane had a head cold, and we had a session scheduled for the weekend for Claire Crittenden and Pat Norelli.)

[...] Jane’s pace was rather slow, with pauses. [...]

[...] As we waited for tonight’s session, Jane said she thought that Seth was organizing material about the four of us, our years together at 458 West Water St., and the flood of 1972—but that when we decided upon the questions listed above, Seth changed his tactics: he began to organize that material instead—“reorganizing what he’d already planned, in order to put it all together,” as Jane put it. [...] I suggested to Jane that she make some notes about the phenomenon.)

(2. Something about Jane’s Turkish life. [...] I wondered if there could be clues there related to Jane’s symptoms.

(1. We were concerned about Jane’s continuing eye-sinus condition—the protruding and drainage. [...]

(Last Monday evening Seth gave a very short private session for Jane; it turned out to consist of just one page of double-spaced typewritten information. During the session Seth said that he was “preparing some special material for Ruburt,” but except for the excellent relaxation effects Jane has experienced since then, we have yet to learn what else may be involved.

(In Jane’s case, I mean something different by “relaxation” than might be expected. [...]

(Even while immersed in her most enjoyable state, Jane still wanted to hold the session. [...]

[...] Jane delivered that session just a year ago, on August 11, 1980. [...]

2. I couldn’t help feeling sad and frustrated as I took down Seth’s words on dreaming, and Jane reacted in the same way when I read them to her after the session. [...]

[...] At once, I told Jane, I thought that science and religion would be violently opposed to the idea, at least in the beginning, for it would challenge many rigid beliefs held by each of those disciplines. [...]

(I haven’t had a chance to talk it over with Jane yet—not until I get this session typed—but I’d like Seth to talk about the part others play when we, for example, do change over our accounts. [...] I don’t see simply Jane’s and my wishes having the power to change the behavior of other groups of people to that degree, I guess—unless our change of thought shifts all else into another probability.)

(Last Monday evening Jane had been so relaxed that she’d passed up the session. [...]

[...] He referred to my changing my own account last Monday and Jane’s today, to the purchase of six-month treasury certificates.

[...] Once again Jane’s trance was broken when our cat, Willy, jumped up into her lap. Once more I put him in the closet while Jane gave me an “oh, well” look. [...]

[...] Jane’s delivery had been fast but even so, she said, her trance hadn’t been as deep as it usually is. [...]

[...] Again, Jane said upon coming out of trance, she had been aware of the footsteps of people passing back and forth in the hall outside our living room door. [...]

[...] Now Seth came through with a little information for Jane and me, then ended the session at 10:45 P.M. “When the session started I had no idea at all that he was going to talk about Hitler and Germany,” Jane said. [...]

(On May 3, the day after she’d delivered the last session, Jane was working on her third Seven novel when she received from Prentice-Hall a dozen complimentary copies of her second Seven: The Further Education of Oversoul Seven. [...]

(It’s almost as though there’s an unspoken agreement among Jane, Seth and me — but starting with the 846th session, which was held over a month ago [on April 4], Seth has been dictating material for Mass Events on Wednesday evenings only.)

[...] Jane wasn’t involved. [...]

[...] I went through Pratt with him, and Jane met he and his wife once after we were married and were still living in the NY metropolitan area. [...]

[...] Seth’s entity name for Jane is Ruburt—he, him, his.)

(“Jane has been psychically involved with her mother’s entity before, hasn’t she?”)

(“And with Walter Zeh’s?" [Walt was Jane’s first husband.])

[...] Jane didn’t sound like Seth at all a good part of the time, and she realized this to some degree. [...] Perhaps Jane was speaking more for herself with Seth’s guidance. [...]

(This session was held for three of Jane’s students. [...]

[...] Jane didn’t seem to be aware that her manner had been very detached, dreamy. [...]

(Before the session tonight Jane told me she thought Seth was getting ready to start another book of his own soon. [...]

(Jane’s pace this evening was rather fast, but quiet.)

[...] Jane’s pace had been quite steady. [...]

(For pretty obvious reasons as far as we’re concerned, Jane and I prefer that Seth hold his book sessions in private, although Seth himself is more flexible here than we are. But as Jane has said, things are “calmer” psychically when we’re by ourselves: In trance or out, she can concentrate upon the work at hand, free of the presence of a third individual — one who is bound to radiate his or her own psychic characteristics. Nor does it particularly matter if the witness remains silent; Jane still picks up elements of that “extra” personality, and reacts to them.

3. Jane and I appear to be two of those individuals “who follow a different order of probabilities” as far as astrology is concerned. [...] However, horoscopes that readers have cast for us, after we’ve given the requested information about our births, seldom show much correlation with the Jane and Rob we think we know — nor will one person’s charts for us agree with those prepared by others. [...]

[...] He’s a member of Jane’s ESP class, lives in New York City, and was in Elmira a day early to conduct some personal business.

(I hadn’t finished typing the 635th session by tonight, so I read Jane the last page or so of Chapter Eight and the beginning of Chapter Nine from my notes. Jane has been on a creative “binge” all month. [...]

(Jane is still writing her book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time.¹ Last week she taped some of this material. [...]

[...] Jane was out of trance quickly. [...]

[...] Jane began speaking a little ahead of time, while sitting on the couch once more. [...]

(Jane’s pace was now quite slow, with many long pauses, some up to a minute in length. [...]
