(Friday evening Jane and I were visited by a psychologist [Ed Ostrander] from Cornell, after an exchange of letters over a period of several months. [...] Although we liked him personally, we came to understand that he used words as a barrier to any real communication, asked Jane few questions. [...] Jane and I were slow: we didn’t realize that such thinking should have been challenged by us on the spot. [...]

[...] As we waited for tonight’s session, Jane said she thought that Seth was organizing material about the four of us, our years together at 458 West Water St., and the flood of 1972—but that when we decided upon the questions listed above, Seth changed his tactics: he began to organize that material instead—“reorganizing what he’d already planned, in order to put it all together,” as Jane put it. [...] I suggested to Jane that she make some notes about the phenomenon.)

(Last Monday evening Seth gave a very short private session for Jane; it turned out to consist of just one page of double-spaced typewritten information. During the session Seth said that he was “preparing some special material for Ruburt,” but except for the excellent relaxation effects Jane has experienced since then, we have yet to learn what else may be involved.
(In Jane’s case, I mean something different by “relaxation” than might be expected. [...]
(Even while immersed in her most enjoyable state, Jane still wanted to hold the session. [...]
2. I couldn’t help feeling sad and frustrated as I took down Seth’s words on dreaming, and Jane reacted in the same way when I read them to her after the session. [...]
[...] At once, I told Jane, I thought that science and religion would be violently opposed to the idea, at least in the beginning, for it would challenge many rigid beliefs held by each of those disciplines. [...]
(I haven’t had a chance to talk it over with Jane yet—not until I get this session typed—but I’d like Seth to talk about the part others play when we, for example, do change over our accounts. [...] I don’t see simply Jane’s and my wishes having the power to change the behavior of other groups of people to that degree, I guess—unless our change of thought shifts all else into another probability.)
(Last Monday evening Jane had been so relaxed that she’d passed up the session. [...]

[...] Once again Jane’s trance was broken when our cat, Willy, jumped up into her lap. Once more I put him in the closet while Jane gave me an “oh, well” look. [...]
[...] Jane’s delivery had been fast but even so, she said, her trance hadn’t been as deep as it usually is. [...]

(On May 3, the day after she’d delivered the last session, Jane was working on her third Seven novel when she received from Prentice-Hall a dozen complimentary copies of her second Seven: The Further Education of Oversoul Seven. [...]
(It’s almost as though there’s an unspoken agreement among Jane, Seth and me — but starting with the 846th session, which was held over a month ago [on April 4], Seth has been dictating material for Mass Events on Wednesday evenings only.)
(For pretty obvious reasons as far as we’re concerned, Jane and I prefer that Seth hold his book sessions in private, although Seth himself is more flexible here than we are. But as Jane has said, things are “calmer” psychically when we’re by ourselves: In trance or out, she can concentrate upon the work at hand, free of the presence of a third individual — one who is bound to radiate his or her own psychic characteristics. Nor does it particularly matter if the witness remains silent; Jane still picks up elements of that “extra” personality, and reacts to them.
3. Jane and I appear to be two of those individuals “who follow a different order of probabilities” as far as astrology is concerned. [...] However, horoscopes that readers have cast for us, after we’ve given the requested information about our births, seldom show much correlation with the Jane and Rob we think we know — nor will one person’s charts for us agree with those prepared by others.
