[...] To some degree historically speaking, that sort of situation operated in the past when — comparatively speaking, now — people realized that there was indeed an inner world of complexity and richness that could be approached in certain fashions, one that existed alongside with the physical world, so that the two intersected. Certain approaches worked in one area, and others worked in the inner reality.

This will allow you to include the feeling of inner, magical “work” into your calculations. [...] In the inner world you or the dog can walk through the door without effort, because desire is action. [...]

In the inner world, your desires bring about their own fulfillment, effortlessly. That inner world, and the exterior one, intersect and interweave. [...]

[...] To the world of the intellect, a glass door must be considered solid, as it is in the world of physical senses. [...]

Obviously, to some degree he has been able to use his inner senses. However many of the fragmentary apparitions that he has seen, for he has actually seen more fragmentary apparitions than he realizes, many of these have been fragmentary through his own inability to organize the material from the inner senses.

[...] What is needed is additional inner confidence, and even the development of inner discipline.

This passive discipline also allows inner data enough durability to be realized. [...]

[...] You are operating at a high level of awareness, and using the inner senses. These enable you to perceive an added depth of dimension which is responsible for the vividness and sense of exhilaration that often occurs within the kind of dream. [...]

[...] Simply on a physical level the animals have sometimes more sense than you do. They listen to the inner voice, and they do not overproduce. [...]

[...] This inner knowledge attempts to find a place for itself within the physical landscape, to translate itself into physical terms. Each man, then, possesses this inner knowledge within himself, and to some extent or other he also looks for confirmation of it in the world.

The outer world is a reflection of the inner one, though far from perfect. The inner knowledge can be compared to a book about a homeland that a traveler takes with him into a strange country. [...]

As it grows, in your terms, it looks outward for confirmation of this inner knowledge. The inner self upholds the ego with its support. [...]

[...] You can sense by watching a child’s play the future shape that his or her life can most productively take. The child does not consciously exercise his or her legs so that they will be strong, but simply joyfully follows the inner impulse to do so. [...]

[...] They are physical landmarks of psychic and artistic inner journeys, but what you do with your consciousness, how you extend it, is even more important, for as physical play is meant to lead to a future physical body that is mature and fulfilled, so the creative nature of that kind of inner play leads to future extended consciousness, an inner being that is the mature version of an earlier self. The inner creative man knows, as the child did, that the way will be cleared. There was Miss Bowman, there was art school and so forth—so I want you to remember that inner man. [...] They have unfortunate effects only when you do not trust the inner self. [...]

Inner mobility during this time will be sensed in the legs, though not as quickly apparent. Revelations will be encouraged, and yet they will not be put above the common-sense wisdom that insists upon tolerance and justice. [...]

The dream meant, also, that he was not alone in a different fashion, for the self that he knows is supported by strong and vigorous other portions of the psyche, and other aspects all ready to help him—inner friends he can count upon.

[...] Each individual experience adds to inner social comprehension. The inner overall consciousness of the species then makes decisions way before any alteration occurs in physical reality. [...]

[...] This was invisible because the pattern still made sense. [...]

[...] You cannot write psychic prescriptions, for then you begin to structure inner experience. [...]

[...] On the whole the species is beginning to change its psychological sense of selfhood. [...]

[...] The matter of this reality, of which you know so little, will be the basis for future discussions, and indeed your inner senses will aid you in the perception of some of its facets.

[...] Your outer senses then perceive the matter as particular, differentiated, separate objects.

Objects exist, and yet objects in another sense do not exist. [...]

The object then does, in this sense, exist. [...]

[...] Such actions simply bring to a sense level your inner intentions, and serve to reinforce them through the physical actions involved.

[...] An outgoing atmosphere, oddly enough, will now allow the spontaneous inner self freer expression spontaneously, you see; the yoga, I am afraid, did represent a severe distortion, and yet a particularly tricky one, for generally speaking the exercise is excellent; and in the beginning when I recommended it, it was helpful in slowly coaxing out the inner self.

[...] Ruburt should brush his animals; all of this for its symbolic meaning, but symbolism reinforced on the sense data level.

He feels, actually, an overly severe sense of responsibility to support himself, and not be as his mother was, a financial burden. [...]

Full and uninhibited use of even the outer senses would lead you to inner reality. [...] Full operation of inner and outer senses, you see, in your present stage of development as a race, would be blinding, as you can see in your reading of drug experiences.

You cannot for that matter perceive yourselves directly, but only through the sense apparatus which has been adopted by the self. [...]

You do not even perceive sense data with a third of the vividness of which you are capable. [...]

In most instances the full and uninhibited use, even of the outer senses, could sweep an insecure self into fragments. [...]

[...] Dream objects and physical objects alike are symbols by which we perceive — and distort — an inner reality that we do not seem able to experience directly. [...]

[...] Only inner experimentation will let us discover this interior landscape. [...]

[...] We should explore each world with common sense and courage. [...]

And so the exterior world emerges from the interior one even as this physical book materialized from the inner reality of inspiration, creativity and dreams.

[...] Using the physical senses, you can of course never perceive the existence of these other systems. Advanced training with the inner senses can lead to such explorations however. [...]

(Pause.) It was a time when your inner thoughts veered off at a tangent from their familiar ways. I believe you had an image of the inside portion of a human body, or a thought having to do with inner organs. [...]

[...] I don’t recall any strong inner image of the interior of a body, but at the same time I know I have thought of this recently.)

If however his treatment involves drugs, these may further upset the inner processes, causing further imbalances. [...]

6. By the time the 22nd session was held Seth had mentioned the inner senses upon occasion, but had given us a breakdown on just the first one: Inner Vibrational Touch. Consciously, then, we had no way of appreciating what important and interesting parts those “senses leading to an inner reality” were to play in the material over the years. In Chapter 19 of The Seth Material Jane quoted Seth on the nine inner senses he’s described so far.

[...] That is, he automatically translates inner data given by me into coherent, valid, and faithful camouflage⁵ patterns — into words. [...] Its transference is instantaneous on Ruburt’s part, and is performed through the workings of the mind, the inner senses,⁶ and the brain.

[...] It begins instead in the energy of the entity and inner self, and is directed by means of the inner senses — outward, so to speak, through the deeper layers of the individual subconscious mind, then through the outer or personal areas.

[...] The inner senses provided him with much, but nevertheless the ideas contained in it represented an achievement of the conscious mind. [...]

[...] (Pause.) The more “civilized” man becomes, the more his social structures and practices separate him from intimate relationship with nature — and the more natural catastrophes there will be, because underneath he senses his great need for identification with nature; he will himself conjure it into earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods, so that he can once again feel not only their energy but his own.

[...] While conscious beliefs have a part to play in such cases, on an individual basis the “inner work” is done just as unconsciously as the body produces physical symptoms. [...]

[...] Your collective feelings affect the flow of energy and their force — in terms of natural phenomena — can be seen quite clearly in a thunderstorm, which is the exteriorized local materialization of the inner emotional state of the people experiencing the storm.

[...] The locality had no great sense of unity as a region, or overall pride in itself as a cultural or natural identity.

Man’s physical world, with all of its civilizations and cultural aspects, and even with its technologies and sciences, basically represents the species’ innate drive to communicate, to move outward, to create, and to objectify sensed inner realities. [...]

[...] The body, however, exists with the mind to contend with — and the mind produces an inner environment of concepts. The cells that compose the body do not try to make sense of the cultural world. [...]

[...] But at your level of activity your thoughts, feelings, and intents, however private, form part of the inner environment of communication. This inner environment is as pertinent and vital to the species’ well-being as is the physical one. [...]

[...] When you sense threat or danger for which the body can find no biological correlation, even as through cellular communication it scans the environment physically, then it must rely upon your assessment and react to danger conditions. [...]

In your society, it is generally thought that a person must have a decent livelihood, a family or other close relationships, good health, and a sense of belonging if the individual is to be at all productive, happy, or content.

[...] Little is said about the personality’s innate desire for drama, the kind of inner spiritual drama in which an individual can feel part of a purpose that is his own, and yet is greater than himself.

[...] They respond to its rich nuances in ways impossible to describe, so that their “civilizations” are built up through the interweavings of sense data that you cannot possibly perceive.

(I told Jane that I think Seth’s material on the animals’ sense equivalents of human civilizations is the best of its kind I’ve ever heard — most evocative indeed. [...]

[...] Nevertheless, the facts remain that your own inner self and your own entity have given you challenges that you have accepted. [...] But what is important is the inner development. [...] There must always be the acknowledgement that you do not consciously as yet realize the depths of yourself, the goals you have set and the challenges, and this material should be used to open up your inner horizons and to lead you in those directions toward which your inner self has already set you. If you then egotistically, say—No—this particular situation is what I want, then you may be blocking the inner direction which has been meant for you. [...] But the inner attitude is far more important. [...]

[...] No man can possibly be as godlike as your inner conception. [...] Your terror as a child gave you an inner idea of reality and family group whereby you saw yourself completely powerless and helpless under the domination of this father figure. [...]

[...] I sense you yelling to yourself when you see a male in strong action or performance, I sense you yelling to yourself—I can do that better than you can for I have done it before—again this is reflected in the way you drive your car.

[...] Others cannot give you a sense of worth; this is your own. [...]
