[...] Certain important kinds of creativity demand incubation periods, during which the conscious mind cannot follow the inner processes. It goes its own way, concentrated in day-to-day reality, while the inner portions of the self amass great information, perhaps, try out new organizations, and utilize the inner senses. [...]

Ruburt’s creativity not only involves that kind of behavior, but the mystic elements of the personality, meaning that the inner activity is very intense, so that Ruburt learned from a young age to develop a certain kind of secrecy. His poetry was largely mystical poetry, and though he did not dwell upon the fact, he realized that this vast inner reality of his was quite beside the point of living as far as other people were concerned.

To some extent, he tried to emulate their behavior—that is, to behave the way they did, while at the same time he intently pursued a rather adventuresome inner psychic existence. [...]

He became quite good at expressing this inner life regardless of other circumstances, and the situation at home, and he understood that it was at odds with what was expected. [...]

(8:58.) During this period, incidentally, mental activity of the highest, most original variety was the strongest dream characteristic, and the knowledge [man] gained was imprinted upon the physical brain: what is now completely unconscious activity involving the functions of the body, its relationship with the environment, its balance and temperature, its constant inner alterations. All of these highly intricate activities were learned and practiced in the dream state as the CU’s translated their inner knowledge through the state of dreaming into the physical form.

[...] Language arose to take the place of that inner communication, then. There is a great underlying unity in all of man’s so-called early cultures—cave drawings and religions—because they were all fed by that common source, as man tried to transpose inner knowledge into physical actuality.

[...] He was aware of himself in a different way, so that, for example, his identification with the self did not stop where his skin stopped: He could follow it outward into the space about his form, and feel it merge with the atmosphere with a primal sense-experience that you have forgotten.

Then in your terms man began, with the other species, to waken more fully into the physical world, to develop the exterior senses, to intersect delicately and precisely with space and time. [...]

[...] You will find that a very small pond arrangement, of the artificial purchased sort, a basin arrangement where water drips through rocks, behind the glass windows in the rear, here with a very simple grouping of rocks and flowers, would serve you to great benefit: as a place of inner contemplation, in which the inner senses would greatly expand their reach.

Later, and Ruburt sensed part of this, a simple and inexpensive enclosure here would provide the utmost in privacy. Not for a sacred grove, and yet for a simple setting within the outdoor nature that would serve you very well for a different sort of inner sense development than you usually achieve indoors.

[...] Nevertheless he was basically creative, and despite uncontrolled and undisciplined energies, his basic creative inner sense added to the psychic atmosphere, but would have turned against him had he remained.

Ruburt correctly sensed that I was with you this afternoon. [...]

All of the powers of your inner self are set into activation as a result of your conscious beliefs. You have lost a sense of responsibility for your conscious thought because you have been taught that it is not what forms your life. [...]

On the other hand there are those who stress the great value of the inner self, the emotional being, at the expense of the conscious mind. These theories hold that the intellect and usual consciousness are far inferior to the inner “unconscious” portions of being, and that all the answers are hidden from view. [...]

[...] Yet there is nothing basically inaccessible about such “inner knowledge or experience.” [...] It can quite freely focus into inner reality when you understand that it can. [...]

Dictation: I am not minimizing the importance of the inner self. [...]

To me, Jane’s sensing of those “cousins of consciousness,” those “friendly colleagues,” and her very cautious reactions to her inner knowing, are clear signs of the consistency of her beliefs and her work through the years. [...]

[...] The “inner structure” is one of consciousness, and the deeper questions can eventually only be approached by granting the existence of inner references.

The inner references of reality involve a different kind of experience entirely, with organizational patterns that mix and merge at every conceivable point. [...] Those inner fields of reference in which you have your existence are completely changing themselves as your experience is added to them, and your own (long pause) identity was couched in those references before birth as you understand it.

“As his abilities grew, however, of course he sensed the outlines of other realities, the glimmerings of other worlds. He sensed these cousins of consciousness in one way or another—these environments that seemed real but not real, these further extensions of possible experience—and he decided that he must be very cautious: He must be prudent (long pause), he must take his time, he must range but carefully—and certainly to some extent such feelings cut down upon his spontaneity.

[...] This will lead up to the basic communication used by human personalities as you understand them, and point out these inner communications as existing independently of the physical senses (pause), which are merely physical extensions of inner perception.

There will be a final chapter in which I will ask the reader to close his eyes and become aware of the reality in which I exist, and of his own inner reality. [...] In this chapter I will invite the reader to use his inner senses, to see me in his own way. [...]

[...] This was highly interesting for Jane’s data speculated about the inner image with “no hair at the sides, or perhaps bald.” [...]

[...] So far Ruburt is doing well, and will learn as he progresses how to operate inner acceleration and flow, or rush of energy, so that he is comfortable. And the ego, through experience, will learn that the inner self will always return safely. And it would be most unjust, and needlessly cruel, not to give the ego this necessary reassurance; and also the inner self should manage to communicate to the ego its gratitude for the ego’s protective concern.

Ego in its own way senses these particular potentialities also; merely senses them as say a dog might sniff danger, and it directs its efforts to block them. [...]

[...] The inner self is well aware of its innate capabilities in certain directions, and directs its efforts along these lines.

[...] The rushing-out feeling through the head represented the initial flow of the inner self from the physical image.

[...] Only by the use of the inner senses can you obtain a viewpoint that is to some extent free of your own system. The inner self realizes the nature of its own reality, is sure of its identity and well aware of its power in the creation of actions which it projects outward from itself.

The inner senses allow you to follow some of these actions into other realities. [...]

The inner senses are an attribute of consciousness. The outer senses make this information meaningful to the physical organism, and the body consciousness, the ego. [...]

[...] The physical image is indeed a replica in many ways of the inner self. [...]

[...] The immobility showed itself physically in faithful replica to the inner immobilization caused by fear. [...]

[...] In projections the inner self is free to travel within its capabilities—underlined, within its capabilities.

[...] In this state the attention is focused inward rather than outward, and it is the inner senses more than the outer that are being exercised. The cat is doing the same thing in his way that Jane is, and in the particular situation you are thinking of his inner senses, that is the cat’s, were focused in my direction.

The inner senses are actually the channels through which the entire composition of any particular plane is appreciated and actually maintained. It is through the inner senses that the mental enzymes are enabled to act upon the vitality which is, as I have said, the structure of the universe itself.

The inner senses in other words are the means, the mental enzymes are the tools, and the vitality is the actual material that forms the universe as a whole, the apparent divisions within it, the apparent boundaries of the various divisions, and the diverse materials within each division. Again, the different materials within each division are only camouflages formed by the inner senses upon the material itself.

The main mental enzymes create senses on the physical plane in order that they may be recognized and appreciated by the physical being. [...]

“Because I say that you create physical matter by use of the inner sense, I do not mean that you are the creators of the universe. [...]

Seth suggests that self-hypnosis and light trance states be used as ways to uncover inner problems that are causing us difficulty. He also suggests that we simply ask the inner self to make the answer available on a conscious basis. If the inner problems are not discovered, we will simply exchange one set of symptoms for another. [...]

Over and over again Seth tells us that physical symptoms are communications from the inner self, indications that we are making mental errors of one kind or another. He compares the body in one session to a sculpture “never really completed, the inner self trying out various techniques on its test piece. [...]

He also has some fascinating comments on the relationship of various kinds of symptoms to the inner problems involved. “Do not forget that you are a part of the inner self. [...]

[...] “I feel an odd sense of frustration — or maybe just impatience is a better way to put it…. I think all of this psychic stuff that I’m half aware of has to be organized and expressed in our world — Seth, Cézanne, this book — so that we can make sense of the whole thing.”

[...] Your ordinary thoughts may falter, or slip and slide around your inner comprehension without ever really coming close to expressing it.

Dreams deal with associations and with emotional validities that often do not seem to make sense in the usual world. [...]

[...] Hopefully in that book, through my dictation and through Ruburt’s and Joseph’s experiences, the reader could see the greater dimensions that touch ordinary living, and sense the psyche’s magic. [...]

Your mother is facing realities she would not face in the past, and seeing in physical terms the results of her own inner actions. [...]

Within each of you there are truths that you do not know, realizations of inner reality. [...] It senses this inner knowledge, but it cannot understand it. It wants to see inner knowledge projected outward onto the physical reality then, to some extent, it will accept it and so through the eons that you know this inner knowledge, this inner vitality is projected outward onto history and onto historical events as you understand them. Now certain individuals, certain historical events, seem suddenly struck with inner brilliance. [...] They have extraordinary force, and this is the projection from the inner self of this inner light outward onto people and events. Now en masse there is an inner religious drama, if you will. An inner morality play if you want to use the term. [...]

Now on the one hand their abilities and their power is based upon the inner ability and power of all of these, in your terms, alive in that particular era. However, they became what they seem to be for these chosen people have also accepted this role, and the exterior drama will be worked out in such a way that it makes sense within the time period in which it seems to take place. This sense of division within the self forces you to think that there is a remote, spiritual, wise, intuitive inner self, and a bewildered, put-upon, spiritually ignorant, inferior physical self, which happens to be the one you identify with. Many of you believe, moreover, that the physical self’s very nature is evil, that its impulses, left alone, will run in direct opposition to the good of the physical world and society, and fly in the face of the deeper spiritual truths of inner reality. The inner self then becomes so idealized and so remote that by contrast the physical self seems only the more ignorant and flawed. [...]

[...] There is an inner self in the terms of those definitions, but that inner self, which is the source of your present being, speaks through your impulses. [...]

[...] They emerge from Framework 2, from the inner self, and they are based on the great inner webwork of communication that exists among all species on your planet. [...]

[...] There are ramifications quite unspeakable, although in certain states of trance, or with the aid of educated dreaming, you might be able to glimpse the inner complications, the webworks of communications that connect your official earth with other probable ones. You choose your time and focus in physical reality again and again, and the mind holds an inner comprehension of many seemingly mysterious developments involving the species.

[...] He only came to show you what was possible, and to bring the both of you to an understanding of inner reality. [...] He was done with it, and he only returned so that both of you could learn the truths and inner realities that you are now seeking.

[...] Before you can develop your abilities fully however you must have the inner strength that comes from your own inner learning. [...]

[...] As his uncle, the father was also involved with him in two past lives in the same relationship, and as priests they were also interested in the inner workings of the universe.

[...] Your main hope and desire now is for inner security that you are not on shifting sands. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s inner image has completely changed in the past month—of course, a necessary preliminary. The dream material is highly important because it signifies his acquiescence to the inner authority of his own being. [...]

There is not the big swing now between depression and elation, but a steady growing sense of peace, and easy freedom. [...]

In the 45th session for April 20, 1964, I find Seth saying: “Einstein traveled within and trusted his own intuitions, and used his inner senses. He would have discovered much more had he been able to trust his intuitions even more, and able to leave more of the so-called scientific proof of his theories to lesser men, to give himself more inner freedom.”
