THE NATURE OF SPONTANEOUS ILLUMINATION, AND THE NATURE OF ENFORCED ILLUMINATION. THE SOUL IN CHEMICAL CLOTHES

“The Nature of Spontaneous Illumination, and the Nature of Enforced Illumination. The Soul in Chemical Clothes.”

When you are fairly happy and content in your daily life, you can be said to be in a state of grace. On those occasions when you feel at one with the universe, or come upon an exceptional experience in which you seem to go beyond yourself, you can be said to be in a state of illumination, and this has many degrees and levels. In any such state your physical health benefits, generally speaking, though there may be some beliefs blocking in that direction.

This personal kind of cellular memory in turn triggers other layers within the cells to varying degrees. Again, each atom and molecule contains within it “memory” of its “previous” experiences. According to the state of illumination or grace, those mass memories may be activated that do not necessarily involve your personal experience — though your own involvement and the events of your life may appear within them in an entirely different framework than the one with which you are familiar.

[...] That “breakthrough” cannot be logically explained, but only compared to, say, an illumination — that is, a light everywhere occurring at once, that became a medium for life in your terms. It had nothing to do with the propensity of certain kinds of cells to reproduce, but with an overall illumination that set the conditions in which life as you think of it was possible — and at that imaginary hypothetical point, all species became latent.

There was no point at which consciousness was introduced, because consciousness was the illumination from which the first cells emerged. That illumination was everywhere then at every point aware of itself, and of the conditions formed by its presence. [...]

The paintings are to provide illuminations which are the result of questions and not of problems. [...]

You knew when you would be ready and your emotions, repressed until then, would then emerge as new to illuminate the forms and to fill them out.

The feeling even astonished you, so by contrast it should show you your own mode of thought habitually, and by implication suggest Ruburt’s. The experience should have been illuminating.

He did better than usual (comma), lately, in the store today, and immediately found himself substituting a bad coughing spell (in the store, P&C)—highly illuminating. [...]

A good relationship between you frees repressed emotion on both of your parts, which then pours over into your work and illuminates all of your interior and exterior landscapes both symbolically and literally.

(To conclude the whole episode I’d like to illuminate, from two additional angles, Jane’s feelings and concerns about needing the understanding of others:

There are comprehensions, illuminations, that cannot be verbalized, that arise as a result of illuminations solving problems that on the one hand seem to have nothing to do with the problems. [...]

You made some comments very important to him—further illuminating how his past beliefs colors his thoughts, so that he looked at the worst side of the given picture. [...]

[...] Its character is transformed, so that the “dark” qualities are seen as actually illuminating portions of conscious life, while also providing great sources of power and energy for normal ego-oriented experience.

Illumination concerning the inner self may appear clearly during waking reality, and in the same way invaluable information about the conscious self may be received in the dream state. [...]
