(Long pause.) A person’s identity was private, in that man always knew who he was. He was so sure of his identity that he did not feel the need to protect it, so that he could expand his awareness in a way now quite foreign to you.

[...] He graciously thanked the tree that gave him shade, for example, and he understood that the tree retained its own identity even when it allowed his awareness to join with it.

[...] You are separate individuals and quite separate personalities, and you will continue to exist as separate identities. Nevertheless you are also part of other identities. [...]

It is made vulnerable to all those forces it was meant to lead, while being stripped of its natural logical abilities — indeed, of its very sense of identity. [...]

[...] Otherwise you will feel alienated from your biological identity.

This identity is your physical self through which now, in your terms, all expression must come. [...]

[...] The individuals who seek out treatment fear the nature of their own identity more than anything else. [...]

Now, in terms of growth and development and speaking now simply to get the idea across, theoretically, you are working toward a time when the you that you now know will be aware of the entire personality and accept it as your identity. The whole personality is not like some superself in which you are lost, in which the identity that you know is gone. [...] That the inner identity, that you, is far more than you presently realize, and the best way to work toward such realization is to accept the self that your are now, as you are. [...]

[...] And so it would help you if you realize that you are often using conscious thought as a blind to hide you from yourself and that there is nothing within the self that you need fear and that the true security of your identity lies within this inner self and that the abilities of which we have been speaking are simply by-products of the inner self, not to be pursued for their own use, but as natural to the inner personality, as hands are natural to the physical self. Now: the inner self is the primary personal creator and perceiver, the seat of identity, a consciousness then with many faces. [...]

If you identify yourself with this inner core identity, then you realize that you (underlined) form other physical images of yourself beside tile image that you know.

[...] Personality, then, can be seen to operate as a field of action in identity; but identity that is conscious of its relation to action as a whole.

[...] It seeks continuity of identity, yet it is forced to realize that the “I” of today is hardly the “I” of thirty years ago.

[...] These probable selves, however, are a portion of your identity or soul, and if you are out of contact with them it is only because you focus upon physical events and accept them as the criteria for reality.

[...] There are probable gods as there are probable men; but these probable gods are all a part of what you may call the soul of, or the identity of, All That Is; even as your probable selves are all a portion of your soul or entity.

[...] As you break down the spacious present into moments, which you then experience, so also you break down psychic identity, gestalts, into small self-structures.

And as you break up then an hour into so many seconds, so you break up identities into so many self-structures, without perceiving their innate unities.

Ruburt’s own experience, in maintaining his own identity independently, while also allowing me to speak through him, will be to his benefit. [...]

In those terms the identity at birth is composed of a variety of such “selves,” with their nuclei, and from that bank the physical personality has full freedom to draw. Ruburt’s mystical nature was such a strong portion of the entire identity that in his present reality, and in the probable reality chosen — as mentioned when I discussed this picture (of Jane) — the mystic impulses and expressions were given play. The most rejuvenating idea of all, and the greatest step to any true illumination, is the realization that your exterior life springs from the invisible world of your reality through your conscious thoughts and beliefs, for then you realize the power of your individuality and identity. [...]

[...] (Pause.) The source for all of this creativity springs from your own inner identity, which is never completely materialized in flesh, and so you always have unused portions of creativity at your command. [...]

[...] (Slowly and quietly:) Your present idea of identity is maintained only because you grant as valid such small aspects of your own reality.

There are too many varieties of such dreams to discuss here, but they all involve consciousness dispersing, yet retaining its identity, consciousness making loops with itself. [...]

[...] They are also quite as legitimately the same identity, but they are not focused upon because the body must have one clear, direct mode of action.

[...] On some occasions in the dream state the recognized self may then enlarge its perception enough to take advantage of these other portions of its own identity. [...]
