In that regard, each person lives his or her life privately, and yet for all of humanity. [...]

(No doubt Seth’s amusement at the Vatican holding doctored records stems from his own brief tenure as Pope in one of his lives.

[...] But we certainly didn’t expect Seth to continue the material he’d begun in his book relating to biblical times.)

[...] John the Baptist was an Essene in all important ways; yet a man who steps forward in such a way automatically steps out of his group, and so did your friend, John.

He was a far more gentle man, and yet in his own way as fanatical as any of the other main characters of that day. [...]

His experience appeared to imply that his father’s identity had so much mobility, and so many possibilities for development, that the very idea of identity seemed to lose its boundaries.⁴

Now last Sunday evening, as I studied that “old” drawing of myself, I thought once more of my father in his last days — then a whole block of information came to me regarding his present nonphysical circumstances and “plans.” [...]

Joseph recently had an experience that disturbed him, simply because it was difficult to interpret even in the light of his understanding about the nature of the self. [...]

His [Ruburt’s] students are important, for as he is translating from the library, they are also translating.

[...] A, B, C, D, E, F and if you fail the grade he washes his hands of you. His ego washes his hands. [...] So the inner self does not wash its hands, but his ego does not realize this most of the time. [...]

[...] Jane Roberts’s husband, Robert Butts, wondered about the death of his mother (on November 19, 1973). In a session (the 679th for February 4, 1974) he brought out some old photographs. [...]

1. Seth first announced his presence by name to Jane and me in the 4th session, held on December 8, 1963. [...]

Now: Very briefly, I want to congratulate Ruburt on the Rembrandt book, and to reassure him that that same creative energy is healing his body as surely as it has written books. [...] Let him realize that (emphatically), and the healing energy can more freely circulate through his physical body—with results as astounding as his books are! [...]

A man might die very shortly after his wife’s death, for example. Regardless of the circumstances, no one should judge such cases, for regardless of the way such a man might die, it would be because the thrust and intent and purpose of his life was no longer in physical reality.

The would-be suicide’s problem is usually not one of suppressed rage or anger, it is instead the feeling that there is no room in his or her private life for further development, expression, or accomplishment, or that those very attributes are meaningless.

Ruburt found our last session extremely depressing, as he saw how the two of you conspired to bring about his physical condition. Though the primary “responsibility” is his, of course, yet each of you in the same fashion “conspired” to explore art, psychic realities, and the search for knowledge together. [...]

Ruburt has often felt that it was too late, and that you could not help him —for you would sabotage his efforts, as it seemed he himself did. [...]

[...] You noticed of course Ruburt’s energy suddenly materializing upon his return.

[...] Being away from the life to which he was accustomed, he could on his return see it more clearly, and appreciate it for what it is. [...]

Now when he does so disconnect his own stream of consciousness in this manner, any correct associations on his part will automatically show themselves in the data through attraction. [...] For I will perceive certain types of information that are basic, and when Ruburt’s abilities, his own abilities as apart from mine, are fully developed, then he will be able to add certain specifics that have direct personal application.

My greeting to Marleno, and my sympathy to Ruburt as he struggles to plow through his Dunne.

[...] Dunne does leave intervening areas between dimensions which may be perceived by an observer from a neighboring dimension, but all in all his serial selves are to some large degree prisoners of those dimensions in which they exist.

A carpeted hall outside the door; and it seems an overnight guest, who has in his possession a leatherlike bag that is not a suitcase, but meant to hold papers. [...]

It is indeed and he has assignments and his class is one of his assignments and he is one of my assignments. [...]

To him he is resting but in his dreams, for he dreams as you do, he attempts to reach you, and only your fear prevents you from realizing his presence more fully. [...]

(Florence wanted to know when Seth speaks to other personalities in his realm does he do so mentally.)

[...] There is instead a corner within his personality that is open like a transparent window, a warp into other times and dimensions. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s dreams have been helping him identify his own personal experience as he interpreted such beliefs in early life. (Long pause.) He has been bringing a combination of physical and mental events together, so that they can be encountered in the present and in the light of his new information. [...]

[...] Some of last night’s dream material dealt with the ideas, again, of creativity—sometimes seen as harmless enough for children, as in the play Ruburt remembered taking part in his Catholic public school. [...]

The creativity for which Ruburt was praised as a child—the writing of his poetry, for example, became more and more frowned upon by the church as he became older, and in particular when the poetry contained concepts that did not fit Christian dogma. [...]

[...] (Pause.) He is getting rid of feelings and sensations however that have blocked his progress in the past. [...]

[...] He can tell himself that his dream self becomes his physical image. He knows his dream self is real. [...]

[...] Projection experiments should only be adopted therefore when you are in a peaceful state of mind, as Ruburt should know after his creature experience.

This is entirely different from Ruburt’s attempt with his creature, for he was trying to form an evil creature, in those terms, to slay—a thing conscious of its own evil in those terms, and that is always dangerous. [...]

Ruburt’s response to the suggestion means that his attitudes are indeed changing for the better. Your intent is specific, and should be stated as such, as Ruburt is doing, but that specific intent draws multitudinous areas into actualization, and Ruburt will feel himself more and more supported in both his physical and creative endeavors.

[...] In a way, as Ruburt mentally changes his significances, so does the body. [...]

[...] In those terms so-called modern man, with your skull structure and so forth, existed alongside of the creatures now supposed to be his ancestors. [...]

He is working well then with his methods. [...]

[...] His overall concerns of course to some extent blocked his creative processes, which further alarmed him. The main issue here is that feeling of responsibility again, so that he writes or whatever because he loves to do it, not because he should or must, and that involves my book as well as his own.

[...] dreaming can almost be thought of as an inner public forum in which each man and woman has his or her say, and in which each opinion, however unpopular, is taken into consideration. [...]

[...] The various tribal members would have dreams in which the problem was considered, each dreamer tackling whatever aspect of the problem that best suited his or her abilities and personal intents. [...]

As he’d hinted in his greeting this evening, Seth did have some material for us—regardless of my wife’s announced disinterest—and that information contained some surprises. [...]

(This was a surprise, and it took me a moment to realize that Seth was referring to his own larger personality, his entity as we call it, and for whom Jane has occasionally spoken in a much different voice. [...]

[...] I was not sure if this is quite the same situation that has prevailed in the past when Jane has spoken for both Seth and his entity during the same session.)

A note to Ruburt: he is of late too severe with those in his Tuesday class, too hard a taskmaster.

(Seth:) Now that big brother has had his say, I will bring our Ruburt back to you, and let you take a break. [...]

[...] The affair will work out much better now, for in the past circumstances would have prevented not his interest, but his availability. [...]

[...] Bill said Seth used the Jesuit simile to make his point very well. He also said his ulcer had been much improved lately; it had bothered him a little earlier today, for instance, but hardly at all this evening.

His ego is indeed a healthy and vigorous one, but of a stubborn bent. [...]

His abilities will indeed improve to a large degree. [...]
