Ruburt has the impression of the school fence across the street from the house in which he lived, and he is thinking of a particular photograph of his own that involved his house, the street, part of the fence, and perhaps some children. [...]

[...] He picked up from me the fact that children were involved. He picked up the road and the pyramid shapes. [...]

A while earlier this evening Ruburt read something that made him wonder whether or not he had, or could develop, healing ability. [...]

Even in God of Jane, which was published in 1981, Jane presented some relatively late material from Seth to show that he doesn’t independently communicate with others. The idea that he’d done so can be inspiring, however. [...] After explaining how a couple of women (among others) had recently claimed that he had been in contact with them, Seth stated: “Now, I did not communicate with those women—but their belief in me helped each of them use certain abilities.”

After all, if he does come through others—or can if he wants to—why hasn’t Seth himself simply said so, and repeatedly, in the books as we’ve published them over the years? [...]

[...] He couldn’t lead other people’s lives for them (underlined), either—yet through the years I began to feel a greater and greater sense of responsibility for people with physical problems who wrote requiring Seth’s aid, or mine. [...]

[...] As he has said so many times, Seth speaks only through me, to protect the integrity of the material. [...]

He believed in the specific nature of the creative self, so that it could only be trusted in certain areas. He believed he needed strong mental barriers as well as physical ones, set up against his own spontaneity. He is beginning to understand that the spontaneous and creative aspects of personality are the life-giving ones. [...] He knows now he does not have to slow down, and that relaxation leads to motion.

[...] In Mass Events Seth spent considerable time discussing the deeper and very similar meanings behind both of those belief systems—or cults, as he called them—and Jane and I hope he continues to do so in Dreams. Now it even seems to us that in Mass Events Seth began preparing us for Dreams long before Jane and he ever mentioned that work by name.

[...] Iran’s religious leaders actually run the country now, operating behind a weak secular and probably temporary government appointed by its Western-leaning and departed leader before he fled his country last January. [Now, looking tired and ill, he travels the world with his expensive entourage, looking for a safe place to live after leading 25 years of savage oppression in his homeland.]

[...] Man is more a part of nature than he realizes, and in the greater realm of activity he cannot take any … actions with which the rest of nature does not agree for its own reasons.

It would be a good idea once or twice for him to remember the Jungle Gym (in Webster, New York where my younger brother Bill and his family live), and the first time he remembered faltering in a physical fashion. If he can, then have him imagine himself not faltering, but continuing on. In that way he also repairs the past. If he has difficulty with the exercise, however, then let it go, but continue with the safety suggestions.

In Ruburt’s recent experience, he found himself inside the chassis of a recording device — signifying that instead of playing a cassette at several different speeds, he was instead, so to speak, playing his own consciousness at different speeds.

He was not just listening, then, to recorded material, but he was himself the recorded information and a recorder upon which the experiences played.

The kitten merely represented wish fulfillment, in that Ruburt does plan to get a kitten as soon as he is home. [...]

[...] He is beginning to release that desire, after being afraid of doing so for fear that his full attempts would not work. In your present circumstances, it was more or less inevitable, generally speaking, that when he began to release that desire, the fears that had earlier impeded its release would also come to the fore.

He began to creatively consider what he would do, and then out of habit projected, at times, his present circumstances, so that they seemed to contradict his hopes. [...]

[...] Jane had no questions for Seth other than her usual desire that he continue his material on Frameworks 1 and 2. I didn’t either, not having taken the time to focus on any.

(Theodore Reff, a professor of art history at Columbia University, to whom I sent a copy of Cézanne not long ago, sent us his acknowledgment this week, although he has yet to read the book. [...]

I would definitely speak to this Father Martin before approaching anyone else, simply because his attitude would enable him to work well with us, I believe that he may be available, though not for any long period. He would be much more apt to be discreet and dependable, and he is more or less outside the regular community in which you live, which could be to your benefit. He is highly intelligent, perceptive and no one’s fool.

[...] He is a monk in a nearby monastery, an ex-doctor, and knows of the sessions casually. He has not witnessed any. [...] One reason is that he gets up at 4 AM to work on the monastery farm.

[...] He shall weigh in, as fighters do, though this is indeed a different kind of arena.

(Father Martin is well read in ESP and related fields; he conducts a correspondence also with monks in other countries, including a Tibetan monk.

[...] In the early sessions he exhibited some drastic behavior at Seth’s presence and/or arrival. At times he would attempt to entangle himself in Jane’s legs as she paced about the room while speaking for Seth. At other times he seemed to exhibit plain panic, running to hide just before session time. [...] Willy, he said, would get used to his presence eventually and show no reaction; this has been the case now for well over a year.)

[...] He recognized the abundance of energy that was available to him as he wrote it.

[...] As cats will, he began to knead her legs with his forefeet. [...]

(Jane said she was aware of Willy climbing up into her lap, and that the cat’s presence might have interfered with her delivery had he remained there.

(A curiosity: Carl Watkins said he felt there was a definite mass change in Jane when she was speaking as Seth. [...] Carl said he carefully watched to make sure the chair had not been moved. [...] He sat in the chair now, without shifting its position; when he rocked back and forth the floor creaked.

[...] Carl studied math for two years in college; reading the first session, he said that the ideas presented by Jane in trance made sense to him; he cited some examples to us and worked out some figures, especially concerning quadrants, and drew some diagrams. [...]

[...] Jane said she didn’t have the vocabulary for it; it was something “he” knew he couldn’t get her to say.

(We would like to insert a note here to Roger, to the effect that we would like him to go over the two sessions and give us a detailed written summary of the data given through Jane, in answer to the mathematical questions he sent Jane. [...]

[...] A crisis, particularly in very early or very late life, may so shatter the personality’s identification with the body that he vacates it temporarily. He may do one of many things. He may leave so completely that the body goes into coma, if the body consciousness has also suffered shock. If the shock is psychological and the body consciousness is still operating more or less normally, then he may revert to an earlier reincarnational personality.

[...] He may never relate to it, and while the existence will serve what purposes he had in mind, there will always be a basic sensed distance between the body and the personality within it.

Then, I wanted him to put it aside for another time, after he had read so far. [...]

(At this point, however, Seth requested that I lay my notebook aside for a bit, saying he regretted that I was kept so busy writing during sessions. [...]

[...] He learns as he goes along, so that he will be able to recognize the actual feeling of such distortions and avoid them, as this evening he was able to feel his own attempt to block the initial portion of my greeting.

And this is also an example of an instance where Ruburt would have blocked me, but this time he did not. My good afternoon instantly confused him since he was well aware of the time. He almost blocked me, changing this to the more ordinary good evening. [...]

It is a giant step and a vital one, for without it the personality would be at the mercy so to speak of the very energy of which he is composed. He must learn to organize and command it, and your plane is one of the many where he gains practice and discipline in this respect. [...]

(It developed that Leonard, who previously had told us he would be home for the evening, had just heard from friends and was going out for beer; he was unavailable after all. [...]

[...] Laughing, looking younger than his years, he did so. Then I was working for Jake Ruppenthal, my old boss at Artistic Card Company, when he was art director. [...]

[...] I also felt that the idea of authority was somehow connected with my shaky right hand, and since this aspect of the dream wasn’t discussed today, I’d like Seth to comment on it tomorrow if he has a session. [...]

(“Oh, he’ll never get to answer all three of them,” Jane said. [...]

[...] Often hair is a symbol for strength, but in this case it represents the strength of old beliefs, and your father is a barber who cuts away those — whereas in the past he followed many quite negative beliefs and concepts. [...]

[...] Your teacher, your immediate teacher, has had strong creative abilities and he was very jealous as to how they should be used. He would set the conditions. He would use them in such and such a manner and no other. [...]

(To Theodore) We know of course this Bega—and he is trained to do a fairly decent job with you and you are a fairly good student. [...] But he shall in time, and you will recognize the difference. [...]

[...] I must play upon them as a painter plays with color or a musician plays with notes and keys, and he (Ruburt) must acquiesce and join in this creative activity. Then in his books he must further use his creative ability to translate what I have said. [...]

[...] He was never imprisoned by believing that one personality existed within one form. To your way of thinking he would change form according to his mood; as he thinks, he is. [...]

His development began in your terms in such ancient times that for all intents and purposes you could say that in terms of value fulfillment he was so far advanced as to be alien entirely.

[...] The nontime principle however operates in such a manner that a personality can only participate in the ways that I have described, in systems with which he has some familiarity because of his own experience. [...]

There is a definite connection between his desire to stop smoking, and the fact that he has found silver threads among the black. [...]

This horror, these few white hairs, then very naturally become the reason to increase smoking, for he now has an excellent reason to feel sorry for himself.

[...] There is however uneasiness, as you know, in the family, and the boy operates in such a manner that he picks up the inner feelings of the others, and is left to handle them as best he can. [...]

When it begins to bother him he will break it. [...]

It is as if, with his ordinary eyesight, he tried to so censure himself that he saw only sunlight. Oftentimes information such as he has been receiving, is received but not correctly interpreted or understood, with the result that the physical and psychic organism is bound in nervous knots of apprehension, for which there seems to be no cause.

My most dear friends, I will now close our session, and may I say to Ruburt, if he will let me: Be of good cheer, for there are lights where you think there is darkness. And may I again assure him that his existence is in no way involved with any of the information he has received, at all.

Your help, Joseph, has been most beneficial to him, and it is difficult naturally for him to manage this sort of data; but if he could not manage it he would not have received it, since we are developing an integration here. [...]

(Jason Hatton of Pittsburgh, PA discussed how he had developed his talents after leaving the church and wanting to use these to help others, but mainly being interested in healing. He related a dream in which he went to turn the TV set off, but it stayed on no matter how many times he clicked it off and on. He then put a lead shield over it, but this didn’t help. He lifted the shield to try again to turn the set off and out jumped a shiny, many-tattooed Buddha which started after him. [...] Then he woke up.)

[...] Now, because of some of your ideas at the time, he formulated certain laws and regulations. [...]

[...] He finally stole from the carpentry shop, and you were blamed for what was stolen. [...]

[...] He may be joking or serious, dictating a chapter or making remarks about our lives or the world in general. Whatever, he’s always ready to share his perceptions and knowledge with us, as far as he can translate them into words so that we can understand them. [...] Seth’s voice, coming through her in his own unique accent, can be as gentle as a whisper or as ear-splitting as he desires when he wants to make a point. When she comes out of trance Jane can remember what he’s said, or have no recollection at all of his material.

[...] As he promised he’d do early in this work, Seth himself does “set the scene” now and then by mentioning our activities, but obviously — and rightly — he’s more interested in delivering his material. [...]
