[...] January 6, Wednesday, 11:30 AM: Achieved a light trance first, then felt as though my hands were crossed, but knew they weren’t. Extreme sensation of lightness and rising, as if from some pressure beneath me. [...]

(Right after this I felt a most odd sensation, one I can describe only as a definite, strong cluttering motion, jumbled, inside my head; like angry or upset symbols not translated into specific information, with a sense of sound in it. [...]

(At the same time I felt the same sensation, although to a lesser degree, in my left kneecap, which instantly snapped or jerked my leg up. [...]

[...] That breakthrough, you might say, with perhaps some exaggeration, was a life saver, for without some such expansion Ruburt would have felt unable to continue the particular brand of his existence. [...]

In the light of this discussion, now, that self was as unrealistic at its end of the spectrum as the Sinful Self was at the other, for Ruburt felt that he was supposed to demonstrate a certain kind of superhuman feat, not only managing on occasion to uncover glimpses of man’s greater abilities, but to demonstrate these competently at the drop of a hat, willingly at the request of others. (Long pause.) The superself image itself seemed to condemn him, of course, since he felt he could not live up to it—and therefore along the line somewhere both the superself and the Sinful Self became in their ways joined, or at least allied. [...]

[...] It might be added here that at the time of the visit of Jane’s father, on the night in question Jane had, as she was explaining some of the Seth material to her father and Midge, felt definite emotional “nudges” from Seth to hold a session, whereas upon the occasion of our visit with Bill and Ida in Rochester, she had not. Yet in the latter instance she had finally acceded to the lively curiosity, and because both of us felt this welcome, held the session. [...]

(Jane said she didn’t want to postpone the session even though she felt “so great”— so much like just taking it easy. [...]

(Actually this data is quite legitimate, and becomes understandable when we learned after break that, according to Seth, Bill Gallagher felt very old on his 41st birthday, last July 1. Once again, see the 286th session.
