On the house: now Ruburt could quite cleverly see Dr. Sam as he tried to shut nature out, and be at the same time relatively opaque in understanding his feelings toward the Foster Street house—his own feelings.

(As will be seen, there were some very interesting developments because I chose this particular subject for a test.

The very act of dealing with him kindly utilizes your own abilities in many ways, stretches the limitations of your sympathy and understanding, and of your patience, yes; but in so doing you become stronger and better able to deal with your fellow human beings in general, with benefits to all.

I say to you within reason, but if your abilities were fully developed I would not have to use that phrase, for you would be so renewed in any encounter that no such question would arise.

I will then give my due respects to Doctor Instream, and also ask for his understanding as I make certain points quite emphatically, in order to make certain that they are made at all. We will, between us, come to an understanding; and those effects which he desires, in time can be given.
