[...] During the long layoff Jane and I worked on Seth’s book, editing, rewriting notes, etc. [...] Jane called the publisher today, and learned that The Seth Material is due in paperback probably in January, with Seth’s own book to be published next October.

(Jane said she finally became aware of “half-formed words, or something like that,” from Seth, as we waited for the session to begin. [...]

[...] The connection is obvious, for he knows that the Seth Material comes from the same system as the voices. Here he reaches out to turn the radio off and gets a shock; the shock is his realization that the Material itself would cease were he to shut off his abilities. [...]

Whether or not Seth actually spoke to Sue in the dream is beside the point here. [...] It’s possible, of course, that Sue’s unconscious adapted an authority figure to get the information about aggression through with greater impact, using Seth as a figurehead. (If you want to believe that Seth is an unconscious production of mine, then you must admit he lends himself rather well to the unconscious purposes of others and possesses a reality to them quite independent of his relationship to me. I came into Rob and Jane’s apartment and walked into a Seth session. [...] Seth (as Jane) turned toward me at once. [...]

(For the record: On June 1,1965 I mailed to Dr. G. H. Instream a letter explaining something of Jane’s ability and the Seth material, plus a list of the inner senses, a list of the basic laws of the universe, and copies of sessions 138, 141, 142, 149, 153 and 154. [...]

[...] Publicity material on the symposium wasn’t enclosed with the letter as stated, so on June 9 we wrote asking for this.

(Jane and I wondered whether Seth would mention the letter from Dr. Instream during this session, but he did not; just as he did not discuss my recent clairvoyant dream. [...]

(A few more notes from the Mossman phone call to Jane today: Tam told Jane the book on the Seth material was practically a certainty; that is, as certain as one can get until a contract is signed. [...]

(In the 436th session Seth advised caution on Eve’s part in order to forestall or change the probabilities re this future accident. Seth described an older woman, about 35, with whom Eve rides, as possibly being involved in the accident as driver, and named certain days the accident was more likely to take place on. Today Tam Mossman confirmed that Eve does ride to work at Prentice-Hall with a woman fitting Seth’s description, including the age given; he said eve would ride with him on the specified days in order to alter the probabilities.

(Jane, as Seth, paused. Seth doesn’t allude very often to a subject in such a manner, so my curiosity was aroused. I knew Jane wasn’t at her best tonight, but thought it would be nice to get at least an inkling of what Seth was talking about. [...]

(Jane had a call from Tam Mossman at Prentice-Hall today, during which we obtained some confirmation on points made by Seth in a recent session. [...]

In this deceptively simple but moving poem about her magical childhood responses to the world she lived in, Jane foreshadows from that viewpoint the innate knowledge she was to express a quarter of a century later in the Seth material. [...]

[...] In one way they’re like casual jottings that she left half finished and unseen in her journals, until I found them when I began searching for fresh material for the frontmatter of this Volume 2 of Dreams. [...]

[...] She began reading the sessions—just the Seth material itself—from the first one for October 9. She did as well as she had done earlier today. [...]

[...] “I’m just laying quiet for a second, although I don’t feel him around [Seth],” she said.

[...] John has witnessed quite a few sessions and read much of the Seth material. [...]

(Seth dealt with one of John’s past lives and his connection with medicine in an amusing way during the 21st session, of February 3,1964. [...] As soon as the door closed behind John, Seth went into a rather lengthy rundown on him, much to our surprise. [...]

(John agreed with Seth. [...] From what Seth said in the above delivery, John now believes he knows who the individual is who might be passing along information about him.)

(“Good evening, Seth.”

[...] Now at my request Seth gave over a few paragraphs to what I think is a very perceptive interpretation of a dream I had had last night. I’d told Jane this morning that I knew the dream was quite significant in connection with the work we’re doing with the Seth material, but that I was unable to adequately decipher it. [...]

(Jane has really made an effort to recognize, study, and follow her impulses since Seth began emphasizing them two sessions ago in Mass Events. [...]

[...] “Seth’s been telling us to be alert for negative Freudian and Darwinian beliefs — and suddenly I’m surrounded by my own. [...]

(Jane asked that I read her some Seth material, so I picked the last nine sessions — starting with our new resolve and intent on July 30, after the long layoff since July 4. They’re all short sessions, but now carry all of our hopes for the future, and so far have been paying off. [...]

[...] I did not correct it, for it seemed we were getting to some material that was emotionally strong for Jane in recall. [...]

(Before the session I had reminded myself that if we came upon strongly emotional material I would attempt to guide Jane through it, by helping her to express it but not become overwhelmed by it should it prove very painful. [...]

(As I told Jane today, a study of the affair would be fascinating in many ways, particularly as it would have to involve Fred’s behavior and beliefs as associated with the Seth material. [...]

[...] I explained that I’d become quite interested in the Fred Conyers thing because I’d been reading a couple of pages a day of one of the manuscripts he’d left us: The Rule Book of Love: A Seth Book. I thought the title intriguing. I also thought portions of the manuscript itself were intriguing, quite acute, mixed up with Fred’s obsessions and compulsions, his personal life and family, his far-out ideas, his attempts and frustrations as he tried to use the manuscript as a vehicle toward understanding himself as he attempted to uncover the secrets of his personality: He thought them locked away from his understanding by the very device he had chosen of speaking for Seth. [...]

[...] Considering her sleepy state of a few minutes ago, her Seth voice was very good, her eyes open and dark, pauses as usual.)

[...] For the first time in a long while, I’d say, her delivery and manner was much more like the Seth of old —firm and amused and emphatic in turn, and free of tremor, with pauses as usual. [...]

[...] By late 1967, Seth was also devoting some sessions to helping strangers who had written us, as mentioned in The Seth Material.

[...] The Seth Material, on the other hand, is more like a map, vitalized through Seth’s personality, and as we follow it, we do become aware of other realities that had been unknown to us earlier.

As I mentioned in The Seth Material, my waking projections and the spontaneous ones in the Seth trance yielded enough evidence to convince us that I was legitimately out of my body and perceiving another location — and not just out of my mind. [...]

[...] Now we feel that we have a twice-weekly appointment with the universe, and certainly this attitude developed during those projection sessions when we tried during the day to follow the instructions given by Seth. [...] So even space-wise, there seems to be a connection between those earlier sessions and the present ones in which Seth is dictating his own book.

[...] I arose with several questions that I wanted answered in a session tonight; the trouble with steps, why she took a turn for the worse after the tour for The Seth Material, etc.?

(She said she thought Seth was trying an experiment, that it was better to do it this way. She could feel Seth about, but he was letting her go ahead on her own.)

[...] Seth thought you would find this direct statement even more informative than his indirect description of it.

(Jane said she was in an altered state of consciousness as she delivered the material, yet was aware of what she said as she said it. [...]

[...] First she read the Seth material in the session, then the notes at my insistence.

[...] With the Black Thing, those of you who remember the Seth Material and the Black Thing, which was representative of my fears at that time and that I had created them and reacted to them. [...]

[...] And I’m saying good night for Seth and that means class is over. [...]

[...] As I have explained in my book, but also in the Seth material to date, there is a psychological bridge that is constructed not only in this situation but in any like legitimate situation. [...]

[...] His abilities have developed along the lines of psychic-vision, as explained in The Seth Material. His projections have been infrequent, and he never gained conscious awareness of any from the sleep state until this one. [...]

In our next Seth session, the 583rd, April 21, 1971, Seth took out time from his book dictation to mention Rob’s experience.
