In all our sessions we have been dealing with the mobility of consciousness, with its nature and extent.

Give us a moment … The universe is seeded with various kinds of consciousnesses. [...] You and the stars are simultaneous events, each conscious and aware but in different “scales” of actuality — as your scale of consciousness is different from that of the violets.

[...] The very positions of the planets and the stars are effects of the senses — perceptions that would have no meaning were it not for your own kind of consciousness. Those perceptions, then, cannot cause you to behave in any given way because of conditions that have no meaning outside of your own consciousness.

(Pause.) Now: While you believe that consciousness somehow emerges from dead matter, you will never understand yourselves, and you will always be looking for the point at which life took on form. [...]

The conscious mind is meant to align all of your capabilities in accordance with its beliefs about the nature of reality. Those resources are considerable, for they include the deepest aspects of your creativity, and powers far beneath consciousness of which you are only dimly aware.

THE CONSCIOUS MIND AS THE CARRIER OF BELIEFS.

Now: The next chapter, Eleven, to be titled: “The Conscious Mind as the Carrier of Beliefs. [...]

[...] It will seem to you that you feel aggressive or upset without reason, or that your feelings sweep down upon you without cause if you do not learn to listen to the beliefs within your own conscious mind, for they generate their own emotions.

When consciousness becomes overly exteriorized and no longer identifies strongly with nature, then it no longer properly identifies itself with the inner nature of its own actions. One’s own actions therefore seem to be as exteriorized, or apart from consciousness, as trees or rocks seem to be. The exteriorized consciousness will always see such an event as an earthquake by viewing only its immediate, sometimes tragic, results. [...]

[...] That love of nature, and appreciation, quickened and utilized inner biological capacities, also possessed by plants and animals, so that man was more consciously aware of his part in nature. [...] It is almost impossible in your time to describe man’s reality when he was consciously aware that he would die and yet not die, and when he was everywhere surrounded by those inner data of his psyche.

[...] The overly exteriorized consciousness has cut itself off so that it no longer perceives the inner order of events. [...]

[...] He knew his death, his personal death, was only a transition, for his identification allowed him to feel the mobility of his consciousness, and allowed him to feel a sense of communion with the passing seasons, and with the ever-constant renewal of plants and fields. [...]

[...] But let us forget that term for a moment and consider association, with which you are already familiar, since your stream of consciousness operates in that fashion. By its very nature each consciousness is a particular, peculiar, and unique focus of awareness which will experience any possible realities through its own characteristics.

[...] Each consciousness, then, impresses the universe in its own fashion. [...] Each consciousness is endowed with creativity of a multidimensional nature, so that it will seek to create as many possible realities for itself as it can, using its own significance as a focus to draw into its experience whatever events are possible for it from the universe itself. [...] In doing so, to some extent you multiply the creative possibilities of the universe, forming from it a personal reality that would otherwise be absent, in those terms; and in so doing you also add in an immeasurable fashion to the reality of all other consciousness by increasing the bank of reality from which all consciousness draws.

A direct cognition is involved in which each consciousness knows what each other one is doing, its “position,” and the implications of its experience. [...]

[...] Now the same is true of consciousness. [...]

[...] First however imagine your consciousness out of your body in its astral form. [...]

[...] Now when you feel that you have this new image of your past self before you, then imagine that your consciousness is moving from your astral form into this past self. [...]

[...] Otherwise will your consciousness as mentioned earlier into the image, then ask yourself: Who am I? [...]

When you are born, you understand that you have a new consciousness. [...] The very utilization of those senses, however, is dependent upon the nature of your consciousness itself, and that consciousness is aware of its power and action through the exercise of its own properties.

[...] He encounters his consciousness first, and then he encounters the world—so I am saying, of course, that each person has an identity that is larger than the framework of consciousness with which you are usually familiar in life.

[...] Now: Man’s first encounter with physical reality in life is his experience with the state of his own consciousness.

(9:21.) The human consciousness has not, therefore, developed the best and most proper “tool” with which to examine the nature of reality. [...]

[...] To some extent, I am like a particularly vivid, persistent, recurring dream image, visiting the mass psyche, only with a reality that is not confined to dreams — a dream image that attains a psychological fullness that can seem to make ordinary consciousness a weak apparition by contrast, psychologically speaking.

[...] These books, however, initiate quite physical events as readers learn to take better control of their lives, expand their consciousnesses, and become aware of their own greater abilities.

Your consciousness, as you think of it, may of course leave your body entirely before physical death. [...]

Your conscious self — You may take a break and tend to your chores….

[...] The intellect should go hand in hand with the emotions and intuitions, but if it pulls against these too strongly, difficulties can arise when the newly freed consciousness seizes upon its ideas about reality after death, rather than facing the particular reality in which it finds itself. [...] She came to play her own conscious part in those preparations, too: Yesterday she’d received many insights from Seth on “master overlays,” and made notes. She typed some of her information after supper tonight, and I’m presenting this in Note 1, just to show how closely at times the body of the Seth material lies to her “ordinary” consciousness.)

[...] Its inner mysteries—which are indeed the mysteries of consciousness, not matter—cannot be explained, and must remain incomprehensible, if you try to study them from the viewpoint of your objective experience alone. While this may sound quite sacrilegious scientifically, it is possible to understand the electron’s nature and greater reality by using certain focuses of consciousness: by probing the electron, for example, with a “laser” [beam] of consciousness finely focused and attuned — and more will be said about this later in the book. [...]

In the entire gestalt from cellular to “self” consciousness, there is a vast field of knowledge — much of it now “unconsciously” available — used to maintain the body’s integrity in space and time. With the conscious mind as director, there is no reason why much of this knowledge cannot become normally and naturally available. [...]

Your closest point to the withinness of which I speak is your own consciousness, though you use it as a tool to examine the exterior universe. [...]

[...] Any construction at all on your field, or on another, has consciousness to some degree. Consciousness however, may not always show the same characteristics that you are used to, and in many cases it will not be perceived by you.

Do they contain different consciousnesses, or are they conscious at all?

[...] As you should know, like all other atoms and molecules, its atoms and molecules had capsule comprehension, generalized consciousness. [...]

The conscious physically oriented portions of the self become acquainted with the inner information. To some extent the reality of thought is consciously perceived as the innovator behind physical matter. Such an individual then can understand the nature of hallucinations at the point of death, and with full conscious awareness enter into the next plane of existence. The information made conscious is then passed on to others where it can be physically recognized and applied.

[...] This we hadn’t done, of course — partly because of time limitations; partly because Jane hadn’t wanted to be that involved consciously. [...]

[...] Imagine that you could scatter yourself in those ten directions, and that each of the ten portions were conscious, alert, and aware.

[...] The Speakers are to keep the information alive in physical terms, to see that men do not bury it within and dam it up, to bring it — the information — to the attention of the conscious self.

It could not be accomplished by the conscious mind — though the conscious mind can indeed will the process to occur. [...]

The idea of using animals for experimentation has far more drawbacks than advantages; there is the matter of one kind of consciousness definitely taking advantage of another kind, and thus going counter to nature’s cooperative predisposition.

[...] Instead, they united in a cooperative venture, in which animals and man both understood that no consciousness truly died but only changed its form.

[...] The creatures are treated as if they possessed no feeling or consciousness of their own — and such attitudes show a most unfortunate misreading of natural events. [...]

[...] And whenever I read about conventional Eastern conceptions of a supreme spirit, I remember what Seth had to say in the 596th session in the Appendix of Seth Speaks: “I have used the term ‘expansion of consciousness’ here rather than the more frequently used ‘cosmic consciousness’ because the latter implies an experience of proportions not available to mankind at this time. Intense expansions of consciousness by contrast to your normal state may appear to be cosmic in nature, but they barely hint at those possibilities of consciousness that are available to you now, much less begin to approach a true cosmic awareness.”

However, the work we do deals with concepts that consciously we’d paid little attention to in earlier life. [...] (This was true even when she was consciously unaware of what she was up to. See the verse from her early poem, Summer Is Winter, which precedes these notes.) As I see it, her task with the Seth material is to place these basic artistic ideas at our conscious service, so that their use in our daily lives can change our individual and collective realities for the better; and by “artistic ideas” here I mean the deepest, most aesthetic and practical — and, yes, mystical — truths and questions that human beings are capable of expressing, then contending with. [...] It remains nebulous because it is consciously unrealized. The best I can do is to point out areas that have been relatively invisible, to help you explore, actually, different facets of your own consciousness … I am well aware that the book raises many more questions than it presents answers for, and this has been my intent….”

[...] It was meant to serve as a map that would lead, not into another objectified universe per se, but into inner roads of consciousness. These inner roads or strands of consciousness bring elements into play so that it becomes possible to realize that the content of a given objectified universe may actually be perceived quite differently. [...]

Now it seems to you, of course, that you are the only conscious part of yourself, for you are identifying with the actor in this particular production. The other portions of your multidimensional personality, in these other reincarnational plays, are also conscious, however. And because you are a multidimensional consciousness, “you” are also conscious in other realities beside these.

[...] The challenge may be different in each play, but the great themes are beacons to all consciousness. [...]

[...] And consciousness is in a state of becoming, and so this multidimensional self of which I speak is not a psychological structure completed and done with. [...]

[...] It is only the conscious portion of you that acts so well, and that is focused so securely within the props of the production.
