(Pause.) On the other hand, such beliefs can be accepted when it appears that the conscious mind is asleep, or dulled as in periods of shock, or during operations. [...] This is only true, however, if you realize the power of your conscious mind in that moment, and understand the ability of your consciousness to mobilize unconscious reactions.

First of all, the unconscious is not a sponge, indiscriminately accepting material regardless of the considerations of your conscious self. All beliefs or suggestions are first sifted through your conscious mind, and only those that you accept are then permitted their penetration into the other areas of the self.

[...] None can be inflicted upon you that you do not consciously accept. [...] But instead this is taken as an indication that the conscious mind is helpless under such conditions, generally speaking, and this is not the case.

Instead, consciousness formed matter. As I have said before, each atom and molecule has its own consciousness. Consciousness and matter and energy are one, but consciousness initiates the transformation of energy into matter. In those terms, the “beginning” of your universe was a triumph in the expansion of consciousness, as it learned to translate itself into physical form. [...]

The consciousness of each reader of this book existed before the universe was formed—in parentheses: (in your terms)—but that consciousness was unmanifest. [...] (Long pause.) I am not saying that the universe is the result of some “psychological machine,” either, but that each portion of consciousness is a part of All That Is, and that the universe falls together in a spontaneous, divine order (intently)—and that each portion of consciousness carries within it indelibly the knowledge of the whole.

[...] Either God “made it,” or physical matter, in some unexplained manner, was formed after an initial explosion of energy, and consciousness emerged from that initially dead matter in a way yet to be explained.

The atoms that compose the fetus have their own kind of consciousness. The volatile awareness-consciousnesses that exist independently of matter, form matter according to their ability and degree. The fetus, therefore, has its own consciousness, the simple component consciousness made up of the atoms that compose it. Both of you found it quite necessary to take a strong conscious, critical look at the material from the beginning, for your trainings told you, in the terms that you understood them, that the “subconscious” could be very misleading, though creative, and that therefore you must critically examine any intuitive productions that profess themselves to stand as truths rather than as creative fictions in your world.

[...] The subconscious is of course a hypothetical terms that stands for the portions of the self at which normal consciousness and the source self meet. [...] The pendulum method is simply a technique that is effective because of your beliefs, and brings to light your own quite conscious ideas—those that you might not approve of, and so conveniently appear to forget.

[...] These all correlated with the multitudinous kinds of consciousnesses that had clamored for release, and those consciousnesses were spontaneously endowed by All That Is with those forms that fit their requirements. You had the birth of individualized consciousness as you think of it into physical context. Those consciousnesses were individualized before the beginning, but not manifest. But individualized consciousness was not quite all that bold. [...]

“Imagine a body with a fully operating body consciousness, not diseased or defective, but without the overriding ego-directed consciousness that you have. [...] Their main points of consciousness were elsewhere, their primary focuses scarcely aware of the bodies they had created. [...]

The earth then appeared as consciousness transformed itself into the many facets of nature. The atoms and molecules were alive, aware—they were no longer simply a part of a divine syntax, but they spoke themselves through the very nature of their being (gesturing). They became the living, aware vowels and syllables through which consciousness could form matter.

Know that within your physical atoms now the origins of all consciousness still sings and that all the human characteristics by which you know yourselves still exist within the eye of all our consciousness never diminished but always present; your individualities never diminished... [...]

Therefore, consciousness-of-self can appear with or without the existence of an ego. Consciousness-of-self is an attribute then of all physical species, regardless of their classification. [...] Personality, then, can be seen to operate as a field of action in identity; but identity that is conscious of its relation to action as a whole.

[...] As the vitality of the universe forms, of itself, the boundaries of the various fields of activity, and as vitality itself takes on the coloration of the various fields and forms the camouflage patterns within them, so also vitality, in the form of emotions that the camouflage patterns of the personality, even while this vitality forms both emotions and personality for every individual, every consciousness, may be thought of as a separate field of activity; and all the data relating to fields of activity may be seen to apply to any consciousness as well.

The personality is that consciousness of self of which I have spoken, which is aware of itself within, and a part of, action. [...]

Now some night for a small demonstration I will have Ruburt come up from his present state through the various stages of consciousness so you can see them. [...] And you will all learn what true communication is, for you will learn to communicate in various levels of consciousness and you will learn to listen to me in various levels of consciousness, and you will learn to know me in various levels of consciousness so that you can see (feel?)[sic] beneath the words as well as hear the surface of the words. Now if you take any number of layers of consciousness and layer them in this manner, you should realize that each of them has adjacent levels of consciousness on either side, so to speak, so that it is not simply a matter of going up and down as if you were playing with scales. You can all learn to use this initial state of altered consciousness, and we will be dealing with it often in class, but you will each be dealing with it in your private lives. You will learn to examine it, but more than this you will learn to cherish it as you should cherish all the states of consciousness that you discover in yourselves and in others. [...]

Now all of you, in your own way and even you (Nadine), have begun to be familiar enough with concepts so that in your dream states and in some of your conscious states you are beginning to play around with them, and so we are in a new playground. [...]

(11:11.) The unknown reality, however, is unknown enough to usual reaches of the most flexible consciousness, in your terms, that it can only be approached by a personality as couched in it as I am. [...] One of my purposes then has been to make this unknown reality consciously known.
