[...] Smallpox’s reappearance would undoubtedly be rationalized: It had lain hidden or dormant in some uninvestigated pocket of humanity; or it was a mutation, somehow “evolving” into smallpox from one of the closely related animal poxes.

In your society, it is generally thought that a person must have a decent livelihood, a family or other close relationships, good health, and a sense of belonging if the individual is to be at all productive, happy, or content.

[...] Jane closed her eyes, concentrated, and gave the following material which is very nearly verbatim:

[...] Jane is no longer here for me to be so close to, night and day, to leap to take care of when she needs me. [...]

[...] However, this didn’t stop her from giving me a series of face-to-face hugs, very close, smiling like she does in some old photos of her that I’d found in a file yesterday. [...]

[...] Just as I finished — or perhaps nearly so — the door began to close. [...]

‘The appearance of the old house stands for our ordinary physical reality — but its high location and closed shutters prevent me from looking inside it, into another reality; the negligee represents my knowledge that Jane is in that new dimension. [...]

[...] Incidentally, it has been unaware of Ruburt’s own knowledge of the close connection between inspiration, for example, and the body’s comfort and relaxation. [...]

It builds up from feelings that are by their nature denied clear expression through the specific but therefore limiting alphabet systems. (Pause at 11:06.) It allows the perceiver to face experience much more closely, and once having done this to some extent he is free in other areas also. [...]

[...] It is not always appreciated, but I can make a lovelier (word lost)  and, as my close friends here know, it is also a very simple demonstration to show you that I am not a spooky old spirit at all. [...]

You are so close, some of you, to understanding that cannot be verbalized, and yet I cannot give you a boost because they must come from you. [...]

(Long pause, eyes closed.) Within certain obvious limits, you will receive the same basic material whether or not you attempt to limit or specify the subject matter of sessions or not.

[...] See the 102nd session for Bill’s cognition of open eyes upon Jane’s closed eyelids. [...]

[...] Jane leaned back on the couch with her eyes almost closed; it seemed they were turned up so I could see the whites.)

[...] It came while she was still awake; she had just relaxed and her eyes were closed. [...]

[...] Consider again Ruburt in one room with his eyes closed, “seeing” the time by a clock in the other room. [...]

[...] Most realities have their growth and existence in something closely akin to what we have called psychological time, and this is completely independent of space as you conceive it to be. [...]

Because no system is closed,⁴ there are flows of energy between them, and interaction. [...]

[...] After giving two pages of material for Jane, here deleted, Seth closed out the session at 11:33 P.M.)

4. Seth has insisted from the very beginning of these sessions (late in 1963) that there are no closed systems — and in so doing has given us clues about his own ability to travel through at least some of them.
