You all have your roles in class, as you have elsewhere, and you are afraid of disturbing the balance of the class. [...]

[...] And when you come to class from now on I will expect to find you all here, not just the physical self, not just the intellectual self, not just the portions of yourself that you term, psychically inclined, but the emotional self. [...]

(To Bette and Joel.) In other words, your experience and your experience as encountered in class in a reincarnational framework did indeed, and does indeed, and will indeed, in certain terms exist. [...]

ESP CLASS SESSION, JANUARY 18, 1972
TUESDAY

Now in class you see he is expressive and expansive. [...] In class he is spontaneous. [...]

[...] He feels free to express emotion in class because he is in control of the class, and can also justify this, the use of emotion as a teaching aid. [...]

A consideration of his own feelings and attitudes in class will help him see what he does right then, and what negative thoughts and emotions are present at many other occasions. He acts to some degree also with positive aggressiveness in class. [...]

(This portion of an unnumbered ESP class session was transcribed from incomplete notes made by a member of Jane’s Thursday-night class, beginning at 10:15 PM on December 28, 1967.

(Usually we keep the records of her ESP class in a separate set of three-ring binders, but Jane wanted to insert this one as part of Session 393 in our “regular” sessions: She wanted to show Seth discussing a subject that was emotionally very important to a class member—Audrey Shepherd—whose adopted son had died by drowning last summer.)

(Last night in ESP class, Jane had an experience with a personality who called itself, and the rest of us, Sumari. This afternoon I dropped in to talk about this incident with Jane & Rob; in the course of the conversation we decided that I should bring the tape of that class to their apartment this evening, stay on for the session, and record it and type it up.

[...] Besides that, my recording of the Sumari personality was poor and I had to stop at Fred and Pete’s [class members] to get their tape, and I didn’t arrive at Jane & Rob’s until 9 PM. [...] Jane had written this chant down during an Alpha experiment in class; when she started to read it to us, she suddenly wailed the words as loudly as I have ever heard even Seth’s voice go:

[...] We discussed the idea of Sumari and what might be their connection with the “class dreams.” If class could correlate their dreams, we might be able to find a common theme or purpose, with each individual remembering his own part in it. [...]

9. With some wonder I can write that our average-sized living room had been more than crowded last night: Well over 30 people were present for ESP class. [...] I seldom take notes in class or use a tape recorder, preferring to be free to engage in the class’s spontaneous development. Usually quite a few people will tape a class, yet last night it happened that only two did so. [...]

Now for the unfortunate results I mentioned near the beginning of this note: Of the two cassette tape recorders that had been operated by class members last night, one malfunctioned throughout the evening, unknown to its owner, and so recorded no class material at all. [...] By then class was nearly over. [...]

From its owner Jane and I borrowed the one incomplete class tape that had been made. [...] While Jane had been straining to compress a long syllable into something recognizable, the tape picked up little except distracting background noises: class people coughing, or moving about or shuffling papers; the sounds of traffic … But Jane and I take class events as they come. [...]

[...] This evening in class, you were not able to use your inner abilities. [...] You have seen, and you continue to see what can be done—and you have seen others come to class with no experience and little knowledge. [...]

[...] I am speaking to the regular members of this class. [...]

Now you are all getting it this evening, but it is long due—and it is for this reason that our friend Ruburt did not welcome me with open arms at your last class, for he knew what I was up to. [...]

[...] One class day, Nancy Methinitus picked Jane up at the house because it was raining. Nancy parked by the Art Shop on the way to work and asked Jane to run in after some art supplies for class. This errand was unforeseen by Jane; this event took place during one of Jane’s first classes, when she did not know about plans for classes, etc.

[...] Possibly, according to Jane, a reference to her borrowing string from Gladys Austin one class day at the JCC. The class members were to string Cheerios to make necklaces, etc., but the string was too flimsy and deteriorated too easily; knots couldn’t be tied in it, etc.

[...] The head silhouette idea wasn’t carried out however by December 21, the last class before Christmas vacation. Again, the connection is a good one, in that the data has to do with the class referred to through the memo slip used as object. [...]

[...] So while classes are formally suspended I want each of you to read our class sessions. [...]

(During class it was mentioned that certain members who hadn’t been coming regularly were back. [...]

(Sumari came through with a chant for class then a message to Rob and Sue, then to Rob, Sue and Bette. [...]

(In the opening notes for the 711th session, I referred to Seth’s deliveries in ESP class on the previous evening, October 8, 1974. When Jane and I received the transcript of his material at next week’s class, we saw that it ran to five single-spaced typewritten pages. Seth talked about many things, but his remarks here, as I’ve put them together, mainly concerned a subject he’d first discussed with members of class just a week ago [on October 1]¹ — the “city” they could start building in their individual and collective dream states:)

(In that class session Seth had much more to say about the dream city. [...]

1. “You can colonize an entire inner level of reality,” Seth told that October 1st class. [...]

[...] The class dream I couldn’t remember was precisely just what you [Jane] were saying right now, and I did mention something this evening before class started that I just remembered. [...] He wanted to know why, just what you said, we all gravitate in that particular area; why we just heard one voice over another, or did we or should we and so on; just exactly what you said ...I told you before class started.”

“I saw last week as Bill started to speak, the class swerved, and everybody looked and listened to the new teacher, hoping that he would have the new answers; that if you couched your questions differently he would give you the answers. [...] And that’s why class will continue.”

([Student:] “I felt somewhat with what we’re doing in class ...I’m getting a bunch of writing ....”

(The class was discussing the “other personality” (Seth II] when Seth entered the discussion.)

[...] And when I write the book, I will be thinking of the members of this class. [...]

(Brad said that he had brought it but he had not drunk it during a previous class.)

(To Chet.) Over here, however, is what seems to be a young gentleman from a strange town who is attending class for the first time. [...]

There were others who were supposed to come to class tonight from afar who did not come, and they did not come because they were not Sumari. [...]

[...] You realize that nothing happens in this class that you do not want to happen. [...]

[...] I was glad to do it—and note that Jane’s class sessions usually are in marked contrast to those we hold for ourselves, for books or whatever in the future. As would be expected of a gathering, class sessions were full of energy and repartee and questions and serious thinking both with and without Seth.

(Jane suggested that I sit in on and record this session for the regularly-scheduled ESP class she held on Thursday evening, February 8, 1968. [...]

[...] Our good friend Leonard Yaudes, who lives directly below us on the first floor, would sometimes leave the house on class nights. [...]

(Sumari spoke to class for some time, individually and collectively, using chants and particular characterizations. [...] After meeting Florence in the center of the room, Sue wrote a short verse about their encounter and read it to class.)

(At break Pete described the class experience in some very Sumari English.)

[...] Thereupon, with Sumari’s help, class got up and walked around in a circle, all of us chanting along with the Sumari, who indicated to several of us to do certain motions. [...]

(Class discussed the exercise and how our consciousness changed.)

[...] Regular class members know what I am speaking of. [...]

Now I suggest that you end class, if you can do it, with a whispered Mu for the much-loved one over in the corner (Bette). [...]
