But the fact that she’d moved onto her right side at all was a help, I said, another step along the way. [...]

[...] “My hips are rotating,” she said, “but I don’t suppose you can see that.”

[...] “My right leg is moving, but I guess you can’t even tell by looking at it,” she said. [...]

[...] She’d had a pain in her side lying there, and was afraid that it was something serious — but when I put her on her back she began to feel better, and thought the pain might only be from gas. [...] When I asked her if she was up to her old tricks, she said, “I know what I’m doing — but that doesn’t mean I can’t goof up once in a while.”

[...] I couldn’t say too much, considering my own panicky reaction when I shoveled snow yesterday, but I did remark that we’d slipped back into the old ways of dealing with events.

[...] You can make plans for the future, but do not worry about the future. [...]

[...] Nature is everywhere filled with promise — not only the promise of mere survival, but the promise of beauty and fulfillment. [...]

[...] You recognized the overall vitality of our material (long pause) — but again, you did not realize that it meant a complete reorientation of your attitudes. You did not realize that you were being presented, not merely with an alternate view of reality, but with the closest approximation you could get of what reality was, and how it worked, and what it meant.

Now the church finally placed all of the condemnation of its religious laws against certain psychological and mystical experiences — not because it did not consider them realities, of course, but precisely because it recognized too well the disruptive influence that, say, revelationary experience could have upon a world order that was based upon a uniform dogma.

[...] Psychological reality, for all of the religious (pause) dangers placed upon it, was anything but a flat-surfaced experience. [...]

[...] The training that connects your visual and verbal culture prevents full translation, but Ruburt was putting together, with my help, information not usually available. [...] He will become more proficient, but for that reason I will now end the session.

[...] Your mental vision holds hints as to data that could be, but are not visually, physically perceived. [...]

[...] The first language, the initial language, did not involve images or words, but dealt with a free flow of directly cognitive material.

[...] A child did not simply look at an animal, but let its consciousness merge with the animal’s, and so to some extent the animal looked out through the child’s eyes.

[...] Then: “Well, I don’t tell you everything, but for some time now I’ve known Seth gives what I call ‘fill-in’ sessions, or ‘floating material’— stuff he could give any time. [...] They’re like ‘maintenance sessions.’ It’s good material, all right, but. [...]

Ruburt has some inclinations in that direction, as do many creative people, but these rhythms are often nearly completely overlaid by culturally-learned ones. [...] I believe there are ancient fairy tales and myths still surviving that speak of these underworlds, or worlds of darkness — but they do not mean worlds of death, as is usually interpreted.

End of session — but those rhythms are also more natural to you than you have suspected. You often have freedoms, then, that you do not use — a 24-hour period that you use quite arbitrarily, one that is already sectioned for you by society — but only if you allow it to be. [...]

(After the session I reminded Jane that she’d just given a terrific session — something that no one else could do — but that she didn’t give herself much credit for it. My remarks came about because as she sat on the couch after the session she said that she hadn’t done anything today “… but sleep and lay around. [...]

[...] I just wish I could present those sessions here, for in them Seth gave us much valuable information—not only about ourselves [including Jane’s somewhat impaired physical condition, her “stiffness”], but about the myriad interchanges occurring constantly between our inner and outer realities, or Frameworks 1 and 2, as he calls them. Some of that framework material is personal, but much more of it is general.

[...] But Jane doesn’t yet have one she likes.

[...] The Moslem militants released 13 of our citizens—5 white women and 8 black men—who returned home by Thanksgiving Day, but this time they kept in bondage the remaining 53 Americans. [...]

This may hardly be original thinking here, but these proliferations of consciousness imply some pretty fantastic abilities on the part of we humans—for such developments show that even though we live as small creatures within the incredible richness of an overall consciousness, or All That Is, still our actions can result in that great consciousness exploring new areas of itself. [...]

[...] And so you went but with faltering steps. You were enthralled, as you are enthralled, but you were underneath much more cautious. [...]

Now I will shortly leave you, but before I do there is something I would like you to try. [...] Energy is not only eternal but limitless. [...]

[...] You are much easier now, but at the time, there was an explosion of energy on your part that you did not understand, and you were afraid that in this explosion of energy you would go too far outward and there would be nothing left, so to speak, that you would get away from yourself and lose yourself beyond all hopes of recovery. Now Ruburt did not know what he was going to speak about this evening and half of his talk in class is automatic, as you know, but it was no coincidence that he became involved in his talk of power and energy for you had a deep distrust of your own energy to sway people as a salesman (to Davey) as you had a distrust of your ability to sway people as a minister (to Joel) and as you also have the same feeling (to Davey), for what happens is this. [...] During break I mentioned that I wondered whether Seth could tell us what Bill Macdonnel was doing on his vacation on Cape Cod., since we’d had but one card from him some time ago. The three of us had made plans to try some telepathic communication at certain times, but not hearing from Bill had sent these plans awry. [...]

(When 9 PM arrived, Jane did not begin delivering but remained seated. [...]

[...] There are also however forms or structures that are what you may call psychological forms or structures, even within your own field, which you do not perceive with your outer senses, but which are nevertheless frameworks that underlie form as it appears in matter.

[...] This is merely a slow beginning, but the initial steps have been made, and the first and initial program has been completed. [...] But the first portion of our program has been completed in many other ways, having to do with the development of abilities, and with the development of that gestalt which we now form.

[...] I did not mention a test to Jane, but she is well aware that they are in the offing now; earlier in the day she casually mentioned tests, without asking specifically whether I had one planned for tonight.

The term mechanism may be a poor one, but I use it now to emphasize the physical aspects of its nature. [...]

[...] These ways will not only be helpful in facilitating these automatic health correction tendencies, but will also be generally beneficial as far as all inner abilities are concerned.

(Jane tells me that “a mistake of sorts connected here somewhere” could refer to a mix-up concerning the room we had rented at the motel, but I do not recall this personally. It was nothing serious, Jane said, but a bookkeeping error on the part of the motel room clerk, to the effect that our room had been reserved for someone else, in advance; we were to be moved to another room, she said, but the transfer never took place. [...]

(While she was giving Seth’s data, Jane said she had images of a childhood playground in Saratoga Springs, NY, with houses nearby, but recognized this as her own data and did not give it as Seth’s. She felt sure the test object had a northern, as versus a southern, background, but did not say so because Seth did not say so.

[...] A destructive type of thought, then, is dangerous not only for the present state of the organism, but dangerous in terms of the future.

For such habits operate not only in the waking state but in the sleeping state also, where the personality is even more open to suggestion. [...]

You cannot for that matter perceive yourselves directly, but only through the sense apparatus which has been adopted by the self. You perceive directly psychological experiences, but you do not perceive these in their undiluted form. [...]

[...] But larger than a spool of thread. It is not an esthetic but a functional object. [...]

(As Seth states in closing, the impressions tonight are legitimate, but too far removed for our purposes. Jane and I saw many glimmerings in the material, but needed more specific data; too many meanings could be attached to many of the impressions. [...]

All events are known in advance, but still there is a selectivity that is unknown. [...]

Fanatics certainly serve a purpose, and actually they help maintain overall equilibrium of society by serving as examples to others, who often have some of the same beliefs but are of a less explosive nature.

[...] Like a number of our other recent callers, he was traveling around the country, seemingly free of all ties, doing odd jobs on occasion, but living on little money. [...]

The personality has endeavored to right old wrongs, and has succeeded to a great degree, but at the risk of sacrificing inner spontaneity, and even at the risk of losing the very authoritative aspects of his nature, so that there is still a tendency to follow rather than to lead; simply because in the period of the Inquisition he was in a place of authority, he led; and he led men into atrocities committed in the fine name of principle and religion. [...] The form itself is not important, but the form can tell you something about the dimension in which you are having experience.

This time however there was a remembrance of panic, but that is all. Actually you opened the door out of desire, stimulated by our sessions and out of curiosity, but you were still scared to death.

You switched yourself off automatically because the experience frightened you, but the whole affair was beneficial because it gave you some firsthand experience of pure inner sensory data. It was unfortunate that it was so uncontrolled, but I’m afraid this is to be expected in the beginning. [...]

Usually in these sessions only one inner sense is in strong operation, but as I mentioned in our last session, man does not trust anything which occurs to him or in him unless he is consciously aware of what he is doing, how he is doing it, and why. [...]

[...] That is, you use this inner sense quite inadvertently in your visions, except that as a result of your lack of consistent training you see these but dimly. [...]
