[...] I have earlier explained that no real division exists between consciousness and subconsciousness, both equally being conscious, and both being part of the same consciousness of the whole self.

Your friend has made two friends, one older and one approximately his own age, both male. [...]

[...] An older man and a boat both are mentioned above, and when Bill returns from Provincetown, Cape Cod, which is indeed on the ocean, it will be interesting to compare Seth’s material with what Bill actually saw and/or did.

(10:21.) To one extent or another you both believe your world is hostile. You (pointing to me) do not believe that nature is hostile, nor does Ruburt, but you both accept the concept that there are hostile elements against which you must protect yourselves, and that the artist or writer, or any sensitive wise person is at a great disadvantage against a system in which he is born, and that he is to some extent at its mercy.

[...] Both of you, however, were highly suspicious of sexuality in connection with your work, and you, Joseph, did feel it a trap, which is why you married late. [...]

Its restraint holds back other expressions of love on both of your parts, and of laughter. [...]

(In regard to Seth’s remark, above, that our creative energies would be enhanced with the onset of these latest sessions, here’s the earlier reference he referred to, in the very first session for October 9, 1983: “Your joint creative abilities should also be more aroused because of this session, so that you will have more intuitive breakthroughs on your own, and jointly, that will benefit you both in many ways.” [...]

[...] They also exercise their consciousnesses in the same fashion—doodle with their minds, relaxing themselves in such a fashion, wandering off to refresh themselves—and you were both doing that, but Ruburt caught himself in the act, so to speak.

You were mentally wandering through the house, the both of you, and Ruburt caught himself where his mind was—only his physical body was not in the same place. [...]

You are both doing very well. [...]

[...] In the meantime his intellect and intuitive abilities both discovered that the daily joy of living was important—as important as “work” or money.

[...] The writing abilities were always one manifestation of his own strong psychic nature, however, and his growth as a personality required the merging of both if even the writer was to succeed. [...]

By all means both of you should rejoice in the improvements as they occur. [...]

[...] Your sexual lives, despite what you may jointly think, did not suffer on the level in which both of you were working at one time. [...]

(We’ve lost the old sense of freedom we had with Prentice-Hall, where we can just do our work, ship it to them, and expect it to be well handled, with royalties paid every so often and a trust both felt and expressed between the two sides. [...]

(Yesterday we learned that P. Grenquist and others from Prentice-Hall met representatives, including the owners, of Ariston at the book fair in Frankfurt—another bit of information Jane and I wouldn’t have been told without asking; my present suspicion is that eventually Jane and I will learn that those in charge at Prentice-Hall knew all along that both Ariston and Ankh-Hermes had made changes in Seth Speaks, with their casual okay. [...]

[...] Regardless of what better deals businesswise you may or may not have made in the past, both of you would have been highly discomfited by any frequent change of publishers. [...]

Because both of you seem weary this evening, and since the material has come through that I wanted to deliver, we will have a short session. [...] I realize that your Frank Watts introduction is a year off, and hope that you both understand how much you have learned and how much you have progressed. [...]

[...] Hence the search for a condition of existence which will be both within and without the ordinarily conventionalized framework.

[...] Both of us had been rather glum throughout the session.)

[...] Both of you to varying extents now were willing to put up with the disadvantages involved, and still to some extent you both feel the same way.

[...] The symptoms served secondary purposes afterward, and in all honesty for both of you.

Ruburt’s poetry this evening did represent a breakthrough of sorts, both in the ideas presented and in the poetry-writing itself. [...]

In Ruburt’s case therefore the distrust of spontaneity was indeed reflected in all areas of his life, particularly in spontaneous activities in both physical and creative realms. [...]

[...] Tell him also to shake his arms downward from both the elbow and the shoulder, and in a playful manner, as if he were a rag doll perhaps. [...]

[...] Several symptoms in both the hands and the feet have also disappeared within the last three weeks. [...]

[...] This intensely moving drama, with all its joys and tragedies, can be compared with your present life, your present environment, both individually and en masse.

This leads you to think in terms of a very limited progress, both in individual terms and in terms of your species as a whole. [...]

In each play, both individually and en masse, different problems are set up. [...]

Both of these personalities however are basically constructive, creative, and a relationship between the four of you should work out very well, not only on a short-term, but on a long-term basis, with advantages for all.

[...] He focuses upon it both consciously and unconsciously.

If I am, myself, subdued this evening in contrast with my activities in our last session, it is only because I would give you both a needed rest. [...]

Our focus of energy is vital, both yours and mine. [...]

The particular unscheduled session which bothered you both apparently was the one which was requested subconsciously by you both; and it benefited those for whom we gave it to a rather considerable degree.

And now, if Ruburt worries that he does not carry his share of the work load, because you spend so much time typing our sessions, then the work of typing the dream experiences, both his and your own, shall be his. [...]

All of these projects are interconnected, and they will help both of you in your writing and painting, and greatly increase your capabilities in your own fields. [...]
