Those beliefs formed a body stance. That stance is being broken up. It resulted however in an operable but limited fashion with all of the muscles tightened and restricted to some degree, the original tension being applied to the head and neck area.
His eyes did not freely roam, but followed the limited head motions. The neck and throat muscles were held in a particular fashion. Everything fit together. He allowed himself no leeway, or very little, and in that framework the body was limited but predictable.
Now that old framework is shunted aside. The body is not as predictable. The eyes are trying out new freedoms. Those important neck ligaments and head areas are definitely releasing. They are highly active. They relax and tense in great bursts of activity and relaxation, and this affects the eye muscles as well, of course.
