(The first part of this session, being personal, was not used in the Appendix for Seth’s book. Therefore I let its typing-up go until we had finished with the book. The book was mailed to Prentice-Hall on November 15, after extensive rewriting of the notes, additional proofreading, etc. Jane and I now are free, we feel, to do our own thing.)

The morning and evening suggestions that you initiated (underlined), and the longer list, have helped. The environment change has been of great benefit, but also because he was ready. Talk out what you were discussing before the session, for there are variances here, errors in communication on both of your parts. You can clear these up easily when each understands exactly what the other means in given definite situations—so go over those particular events. See what each of you meant by what you did or said, what the other thought you meant, and your reactions.

He will be able to send it to help others, and it will learn to do so with practice. It will become then more powerful in terms of good. It was always available. His late feelings of joy and release and the refreshment he is finding in nature, released him from private circles of nervousness, and opened channels through which positive energy did accumulate.

That was his black thing, formed by him.

To that extent it was consistent. It was not driven however by intent. In one way both personalities were accidental, in that Ruburt did not consciously (underlined) form either. In deeper terms however it was a creature of default, of frustration, and lack-of. (Seth’s punctuation.)
When the frustrations were faced and worked through more and more, the creature then lost its strength. It was not given the unifying qualities of intent and purpose. In the helper, you see, you find a binding quality, where the deepest drives of the personality for good are freed, actually, released in another realm of activity to continue the personality’s main intents.
The black thing simply raged. You must understand however that the black thing also served its purpose, for Ruburt was finally able to recognize moods that corresponded to it. You both came close to this recognition during your vacation when you discussed a black ball or atmosphere that you threw back and forth, a pall.

(Since August, when this session was held, it seems that little if anything has developed re Jane’s helper. The ideas seem to be very good ones, and I remember that when the session was held we had high hopes. For one reason or another—or several—they have been set aside; finishing Seth’s book contributed of course. It’s educational to type up this material after such a long interval—but also somewhat discouraging, I’m afraid. I do not hear Jane mention the concept of the helper very often. The term will crop up when she has some kind of related psychic experience occasionally, but that seems to be all. Resume at 9:50)

At one time therefore Ruburt’s fears greatly overbalanced his hopes. Feelings of desolation outbalanced feelings of joy. In a concentrated form in this other realm, this self-image was reflected. Following the laws of attraction, it drew to it other such realities.
(Pause.) Ruburt was made aware of the fact in an out-of-body state when they came face to face. He kept careful note of his feeling and reactions during that time, and knew he could not get in that state of mind again: so he started in quotes “upward.” The old habits however had to be broken down in both realms.

Often the black thing, or dark side of the personality, sensed and acknowledged that it was responsible for the helper, or the helper’s birth. Do you follow me there?
