There is a subjective feel to such a state that he is beginning to recognize. It is like a strong beam, and he must learn how to use it, and how to change its direction. In the case of projection, this trance forms a safe channel through which the consciousness may travel and return. It is associated with the pyramid effect, usually going outward from the center of consciousness.
