(Bill and Peggy Gallagher were witnesses to the session. As usual the presence of witnesses fired Seth up. His delivery was more active and quite fast from the beginning. Jane’s eyes however remained closed. For much of the session she sat on the edge of her chair, leaning forward with her hands clasped together. She began at 8:58.)

([Bill:] “As you wish.”
(Seth broke off his material to introduce this bit of humor because Bill, sitting perhaps five feet away, was leaning forward and staring intently at Jane as she spoke. Smiling, her eyes still closed, Jane now shifted her chair so that she did face Bill squarely.
(A reminder, that Seth’s favorite term for Bill is the Jesuit; for Peggy, the cat lover.)

(Since Seth paused after giving voice to the question, I answered, since I had been writing at a fast pace. I soon saw that I shouldn’t have however, since Jane now turned the same humorous expression toward me that had confronted Bill a few minutes ago.)

(Again in a jovial mood, Jane indicated a spot just in front of her rocker. Bill had been still peering intently at her.)

(Our session was being held in our front room. Up until now none of us had noticed the traffic noise past the front of the house; but now that a test was to come I became conscious of it. Later Jane, Bill and Peggy concurred.

(A copy of my drawing, and of drawings of the clock by Bill Gallagher and by Jane herself, will be included in the notes at next break.)

(Jane and Bill now made their drawings of the clock, without seeing each other’s or mine, and my copies of all three are below. It’s apparent the three of us agreed pretty closely on what we saw. Note that only Jane points up the uneven gilt surface in her version.)

([My question:] “Have you got a question, Bill?”
([Bill G:] “What significance do you attach to the fact that you seem to be right-handed, but left-handed in sessions?”)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
([Bill:] “To Ruburt through you.”
(At an earlier break, Bill had mentioned to me, while Jane was out of the room, that he believed Jane was right-handed but that Seth used predominantly left-handed movements. I hadn’t noticed this, but told Bill Jane had talked at times of being left-handed as a child; I told him I remembered Jane saying something about being made to write right-handed in school.)

([Bill:] “Why?”)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
([Bill:] “I’ve been wondering why your basic gestures are different than Jane’s.”)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
([Bill:] “I don’t know. I’ve been wondering whether I would think so.”
[... 2 paragraphs ...]
([Bill:] “I was curious as to what you would say.”)
[... 2 paragraphs ...]
([Bill:] “Then you use Ruburt’s mechanical equipment, the voice, the eyes and body and so forth, to speak to us.”)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
([Bill:] “And does this include Ruburt’s facial expressions also?”)
[... 5 paragraphs ...]
([Bill:] “Not particularly, I guess.”

(The most obvious instance of a change in Jane’s features occurred in the 68th session, and was witnessed by Bill Macdonnel and myself in full light. This was very definite and easily seen. See Volume 1.)
