Since the later 1960s, when my own troubles began, I stubbornly resisted medical assistance. [...] I could keep track easily enough, I thought, of my own progress as I worked directly with my body, without drugs to confuse the issue, and with no one else between me and the reality I had so cunningly created. [...]
“Actually,” she continued much more emphatically now, as we discussed her rather mild comments about the other Seths, “I’m deeply outraged that some people who considered themselves ‘followers’ of mine or Seth can so easily fool themselves when they claim to be speaking for Seth—be so blind to their own motives, or not recognize the fact that they’re taking advantage of people. They’re also using my work to validate their own….”)
Seth gave so many sessions that were devoted to my own physical condition that I finally became embarrassed and confused: The sessions were obviously terrific—why couldn’t I put them to more practical use?
[...] Their needs—and my own—seemed to blot out the great hope that Seth could and did offer: the infusion of understanding and comprehension that could clear away the old belief patterns that held the individual in bounds.
Again, your elements, those that you know and those that you will discover, and the elements you will create, are only camouflages of the basic stuff or vitality, which you will not discover with your outer senses. [...] Because man has such a sense of curiosity the scientists on your plane will be forced finally to use their own inner senses. [...]
[...] That is, they will create more and discover more until they are ready to go out of their minds. Because what will happen is, they will always create camouflages of the real thing. And while they create instruments to deal with smaller and smaller particular particles, they will actually see smaller and smaller particles, seemingly without end.
[...] In many cases you could for example accept Ruburt’s basic intuitive impulse, and then make your own changes. For example you could have left your position at a much earlier time and then made your own plans accordingly. [...]
[...] I merely want you to examine your own ideas as to what is practical, because often your ideas have been practical for the short term only, and in many cases though not all Ruburt’s seemingly unpractical notions have been based on very practical psychological knowledge.
[...] The individual first manipulates situations within the dream reality, and then transposes his characteristic method of handling them upon the physical reality.
[...] An ego that is overly rigid will inhibit the intellect from perceiving various portions of physical reality, and therefore distort the appearance of reality, limiting the intellect’s abilities.
When the ego is of such a rigid nature that it distorts physical reality out of all context, then however the personality had better rely upon the subconscious even in this respect, for the subconscious will at least perceive those elements of physical reality that immediately threaten the whole self.
Now, before we plunge into the nature and characteristics of dream reality, let us briefly consider the relationship between emotions, space, and distance as they occur within the waking conditions.
An overconcentration in those areas helps bring about those conditions in your own experience. [...] Both worlds are real, both are created by those who experience them. [...]
In all of these areas expectations bring about physical reality.
Up to now you both have been playing the illness game strongly, in your imagination both creating symptoms, imprisoning Ruburt within them in the present, seeing them in the future, and examining future events in the light of present symptoms.
[...] I wanted to know the Sinful Self’s attitudes toward the fact that it had rendered Jane literally helpless as far as her survival was concerned; she couldn’t take care of herself physically without the aid of others, I said, so this obviously implied that the Sinful Self was creating its own demise also. [...] No matter how it must reason or react, it had to be concerned about its own survival—but in what ways, and based upon what knowledge and/or reasons? [...]
[...] They find themselves acting more naturally, creatively and efficiently following their own natural bents. [...] Then within the realms of your practical reality they learn to utilize that ability. [...]
The term “psychic” is ill-defined, so he must define for himself the field of his activity, specify clearly for both of your sakes where his own strengths lie, and his intents, and what is to be expected of him and what is not. Even within that statement there must be room for growth and accomplishment, “to explore the nature of reality.”
[...] He does possess natural desires, characteristics and intents that help focus his own activity. [...] Those disinclinations are quite healthy indicators that in those cases he is straying away from the strong areas of his own proficiency and interest. [...]
[...] It may even be, I’ve often thought, that one cannot really leave the body alone, nor be meant to—for the physical body would be a portion of the reality each individual creates, and so is bound to be intimately involved with individual fears, desires, intents, successes, etc.)
(Once again, I tried to get through to her that the sessions or her own work could offer ways to get through that period, or at least offer greater insights into it. [...] I also tried to keep in mind Seth’s recent reference to her own natural rhythms, thinking that if she didn’t want sessions just now, that might actually be part of the healing process.
[...] For now, I assure you of my own devout (humorously) sympathies—and also offer you my own assurances that your capacities and energies are more than able to see you through this episode triumphantly. [...]
[...] Once again I asked her if she wanted to have a session, or do some dictation on her own. [...]
[...] But it is far more important to understand why you are creating a distortion in physical reality that concerns your own image. [...]
But the other personality that you find so alien is also my own. [...] This energy is a protection of your own personality and your own will and of your own spirit. [...] Do not be afraid of vitality nor of your own feeling. Others are protected from your own feeling, as you are protected to a large extent from theirs. [...]
Know, however, that your own emotions and your own feeling and your own vitality has such an energy and a power as my voice shows this evening. And it is your purpose to utilize and direct and focus your own energy. [...]
[...] I cannot do this for you, and no one can do it for you, and no one can make you do it before you yourself are ready to look into the meaning of your own existence and your own personality. [...]
(At the same time, Jane and I are extremely grateful that we have the opportunity to study ideas about consciousness with Seth, and this opening up of our individual realities is something we couldn’t have conceived of before 1963. [...] Jane has also been helped a great deal.] So our aim with the Seth books is to let Seth have his say, to add some thoughts of our own, and to trust that the feelings and meanings in all of this will evoke beneficial responses in each reader. [...] I for one think that my own words are pretty inadequate tools of expression to convey the deeper, unspoken meanings within life that I sense but cannot really verbalize.
[...] We still have a host of questions about Seth’s reality, his concepts, and Jane’s role [and my own] in all of this — that is, questions about consciousness itself, basically: consciousness getting to know itself in endless variations, as I’ve written before, and whether or not it’s couched in physical form.
[...] The two of you — for you are both involved — have not only initiated a new framework from which you and others can view the nature of reality more clearly, but you also had to start from scratch, so to speak, to get the material, learn to trust it, and then to apply it to your own lives — even while ‘the facts were not all in yet.’ At no point did you have all of the material to draw upon, as for example, your readers do at any given point. [...]
[...] I asked Jane if Seth could devote the next session to that subject matter so that I could insert it in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality as a note or an appendix, since I had plenty of work to do yet for that second volume. [...] We also thought it was a good time to pose questions for Seth — for just two weeks ago, in the 800th session, he’d finished dictating his own fifth book, The Nature of the Psyche: Its Human Expression.2
[...] He realizes they are thought-forms, for example, and his own; but again, thought-forms do possess a certain reality and consciousness. [...]
They will grow in consciousness and continue their own lines of development on different levels. [...] Understand, however, that I do not mean that we lack our own initiative for action, individuality or purpose — and remember also here that you live from the inside out. [...]
[...] To make it as simple as I can, I will say that you do not have the same backgrounds, necessarily, when you enter the physical system of reality. [...]
[...] If we create our reality, how come an inoculation will work, even if we don’t want it, or don’t believe in it? [...]
Watch the suggestions you give yourself about your own writing and “Unknown”. Simply be conscious and aware of your own thoughts, for they serve as suggestion.
[...] This was the result of your own suggestions, for you said that Ruburt’s body would continue to relax as he slept.
[...] Watch television or whatever, but imagine—lightly, now—a pyramid with each of you at its base, going upward into Framework 2. The energy you sense in whatever program you watch imagine almost like a generator, as energy here drawing power from Framework 2 into the room, into Ruburt’s body and your own, activating both your physical and psychic existences.
They exploded and were re-created many times—disappeared and returned. [...] As atoms and molecules give your chairs a reality within your system even though the atoms and molecules themselves come and go, so this planetary system still retains its identity. Your astronomers may perceive a ghost image of it at the edges of your universe, but only a reflection from a reality that you cannot perceive. [...]
[...] This presentation shows Seth’s way of weaving one subject through another as he inserts new discussions and information while building on past sessions, and points up his method of using Rob’s and my own daily experiences as a launching pad for his own material.
You may even smile at the child’s utter sense of desolation until he finally connects the motion of his own hand with the destruction of the paper cardboard house that is now gone, and in his eyes, gone beyond repair.
[...] The fact is that they can never be condoned, and yet they must be understood for what they are: man, learning through his own errors. [...]
It may be that the frog could have learned more by exploring his own frogness, and, certainly, I felt rather superior to the frog and the nature of his search — that’s implied in the poem. Now it seems to me that any lively exploration into reality should lead to exuberence and greater understanding, not sadness and alienation. And I don’t believe that our world, like the watch, is simply a discard from another greater reality, though certainly it is a part of one.
You may, then, encounter images that are subconsciously formed, quite valid images that belong in another dimension; or constructions created by others in other systems. [...] If it is a subconscious construction of your own, it will vanish. [...]
[...] You learn, therefore, to manipulate your own consciousness and to experience its mobility. Quite simply, such projections allow you practice in dealing with realities that you will meet when you no longer operate in the physical system.
Remember that I told you you may visit not only the past, present or future as it exists or will exist in your terms, but you may also visit realities that never existed physically. [...] They simply are not a part of your definition of reality. [...] Such a museum has a reality as valid as the house in which you live.
[...] They will not come to you when you say “You create your own reality” in the same fashion.
[...] Jane’s pace throughout had been good, and limited only by my own writing speed. [...] My own pendulum answers had steered me in the right direction, I saw, but were far short of being complete enough. [...]
[...] On June 22 the pendulum told me that my stomach bothers me not because I don’t spend enough time painting, but because I feel guilty at spending the time I do, in view of all the other work with Jane that I feel I should be doing: working on sessions, “Unknown” Reality, etc.
(2. Did I go overboard on “Unknown” Reality? [...]
[...] Again, the material is indeed dealing with a far more valid explanation for the working ways of reality than the old official beliefs — and again, we are not just (underlined) dealing with evocative, creative hypotheses.
(See the session for September 22 for our own ideas and feelings, and more of Seth’s material, on the medical/disclaimer situation with Prentice-Hall.)
[...] As I well know, I am bothering my stomach, which is perfectly innocent in its own right. [...]
My present uncomfortable state isn’t drastic, by any means, but it is getting my attention — which, after all, is the reason I’m creating it to begin with. [...]
[...] Only when she was home did she begin to fathom the possible depths of the physical reality she’d created for herself, with my help. [...] “Sure, for one joint, or two, maybe,” I said, then shut up, not wanting to add my own fears to her fears. [...]
[...] I answered my own question by remembering accounts I had on file, explaining how people of various ages had withstood numerous, incredible operations, sometimes over a period of years. But I was horrified to think that my dear wife might become involved in a similar reality, with or without my unwitting compliance. [...]
So last night, less than two days after she’d held her last session, I asked Jane for some material about the central theme of her days in the hospital, both from her own viewpoint and that of the doctors who probed, examined, and discussed her and her problems. [...]
For the third time in five days she began dictating her own material right after breakfast. [...]
He can only play with the projections of reality within his own system. He can indeed do much damage, but only to his own camouflage universe. [...]
He has constructed matter as an outward manifestation of inner reality. He can to some extent destroy matter, but he cannot destroy the inner reality.
[...] While the quasars appear to be filled with more energy than man can conceive of, still the quasars that are now perceived are but shadows of the reality behind them.
It is as if you were somewhere inside an atom, looking toward your own nucleus. [...]
[...] These psychological structures through value fulfillment, ever enlarge their abilities to form new realities and to act within them. It should not be forgotten that these environmental systems are directly created by those who dwell within them, and this includes your own.
Basic reality is not a chaos. [...] These personality structures are like you a portion of basic reality, or All That Is. [...]
Your idea of a god, in fact any concept held by humanity, represents at best a very small and insignificant idea, based upon the root assumptions of your own system. [...] Simply taking your own physical system and its physical universe, all intelligent life is simply not humanoid. [...]
[...] They organize the basic ground reality into many patterns, and then operate and manipulate within them.
[...] Again at the risk of repeating myself: Many of your problems result from the fact that you do not accept the responsibility of your own consciousness. It is meant to assess the reality that is unconsciously formed in direct replica of your thoughts and expectations.
(Soon we’ll be able to start sending out Seth’s own letter to some of our correspondents; he dictated it in the 633rd session. [...]
When you do not embrace this conscious knowledge, but refuse it, you are not using one of the finest “tools” ever created by your species, and you are to a large extent denying your birthright and heritage.
The “demons,” your projections, are then placed upon a national enemy, or the leader of another race; sometimes whole masses of population will project upon other large groups the images of their own unfaced frustrations. [...]
[...] Now we have an idea for our own type of “disclaimer” for the frontmatter of Mass Events, based upon a very apt quote from Seth’s material that we found late in the book. [...]
[...] This poses some problems for the legal department, which is given to the most literal translation of reality as interpreted through law. [...]
[...] It knows that I appear in sessions, for example, but it does not know whether or not my ideas correspond with a greater reality, or whether they are the result of an extraordinary psychological creativity.
[...] He can indeed express great enthusiasm over work that is highly intuitional, while on the other hand he has a great respect, in his own way, for established learning and education.
Without dreams the outer camouflaged self would lose all touch with inner realities, or would be in danger of thus denying its own heritage; and therefore the physical body is so constructed that excess chemicals must be discharged and transformed into human action, or the physical mechanism would be clogged with poisons.
[...] They merely perceive islands, or they perceive bits of realities. [...] Dreams bring intuitive knowledge of the whole self to its own parts.
(It might be interesting to quote here the first paragraph of notes Jane made that evening: “Basic idea is that the senses are developed not to permit awareness of an already existing material world, but to create it. The inner image [idea] is projected by the senses outward to create the world of appearances. [...]
This information itself may enable you to interpret your own dreams more effectively, and should enable others who read the material to interpret their own dreams with more sense.
