Those survivors, who were actively involved, saw themselves in a completely different light than those who succumbed, however: They were those, untouched by despair, who saw themselves as effective rather than ineffective. (Seth:) Since there are no physical universities, and since I threw out those statements with my own purposes in mind, then it follows that those who are interested must find their own way; and that their imagination and will must drive them to find their own methods. But then people who spook out the universe usually find secret and hidden corners where they can play and work to their heart’s content.

[...] Someone, Jane said, had also remarked about her modest weight gain today, but she couldn’t recall who it had been. [...]

[...] Then, no sooner had we sat for the session than Jane asked me to write down what she was about to say, since she had the material available whether or not Seth got to it: “A new part, or chapter heading: ‘People Who Are Afraid of Themselves. [...]

It is as if you shared, say, a psychological planet, populated by people who had the same roots, the same ground of being — as if you shared the same continents, mountains, and oceans. [...]

Only in a manner of speaking (repeated twice), there are certain — (humorously:) a necessary qualifying word — “power selves,” or personalities; parts of your greater identity who utilized fairly extraordinary amounts of energy in very constructive ways. [...]

[...] They seek out leaders — political, scientific (humorously), or religious — who will order their lives for them.

In many instances, therefore, modern physicians are inadequate witch doctors who have forgotten their craft — hypnotists who no longer believe in the power of healing, and whose suggestions bring about other diseases which are diagnosed in advance.

[...] The “quacks” end up with those who are hopeless, who realize the ineffectiveness of other belief systems, find them wanting, and have no place to go. [...]

In other areas, an individual who thinks that he is poor will lose or misuse, or badly invest, any amount of money, whether he works hard for it or is given it. A person who has hypnotized himself into a state of loneliness will be desolate although surrounded by a hundred friends and admirers.

Now: In those terms he may or may not be as attractive, feature by feature, as some other individuals who believe, in fact, that they are unattractive. [...]

The message is meant to make all question who call themselves religious people. [...] It is there as an early Christmas present for those who use Christianity in fanatical ways. [...]

An individual who has survived physical death can if he wishes recreate any portion of his own past as it was. [...]

Those who struggled and did not achieve fame for example, will sometimes recreate their past, manipulate hallucinatory relationships and events and achieve it within that counterfeit environment. [...]

Some who wanted to travel from the Old World to the New, may be reborn in the new one. [...] Information concerning these is often given to you in the sleep state, and there is a kind of gestalt type of dream, a root dream, by which those who have known each other in past lives now communicate.

The words “Let thy will be done,” represented excellent psychological understanding, for according to Christ’s teachings as originally given, God the father represented the source or parent of the self, who was by nature free from the self’s ignorance or lack of understanding at any given time, and who would know better than the known self those experiences that would fulfill the self’s hopes, dreams, and potentials.

A man was crucified, but he was not one who made up the Christ entity. [...] None of the men who made up that entity were crucified. [...]

(I was amused during the visit to learn that “two little old ladies, one who’s interested in your stuff and one who’s a skeptic,” waited in the car in the driveway while Michaellen and I talked under the porch light. [...]

It will do no good to ask deep questions concerning the history of the times of some personality who was impoverished, ignorant, and limited. [...] The picture of any given life, therefore, usually comes through the experience of the personality who lived it.

(The first part of the session was given over to a friend who needed help with a personal problem. [...]

[...] You were originally an artist, who turned rather dramatically into a landowner, and against your youthful ways.

It is this inner director who maintains all of these functions, and who is responsible for the physical health. [...] It is this inner director who chooses the dream symbols in such a way that they will be meaningful to all layers or areas of the subconscious, and who is responsible for the amount, rate and type of subconscious data which is given to the outer ego by means of the intuitions.

[...] It is this organizer who directs not only the movements of the physical body from within, but directs from within those intimate survival mechanisms, without which the physical body could not exist, and upon which the existence of the outer ego is so dependent.

[...] While this is necessary, the whole remainder of the self could not be left to an organizer or caretaker who did not focus his attentions within the depths but sat, as it were, on the front porch of the house, leaving the inner workings unattended. [...]

[...] The subconscious contains a collection of diverse, varied and vital personalities who represent the losers when the time arrived to send one of them to the topmost level, or to the surface of the self.

[...] (I, Robert Butts, was one of the believers.) The lie did not become truth but it became more nearly so, for despite their failures the ex-servicemen managed to bring up children who would not go to war willingly, who would question its premise.

Many who unexpectedly commit great crimes, sudden murders, even bringing about mass death, have a history of docility and conventional attitudes, and were considered models, in fact, of deportment. [...]

[...] Some such individuals, model sons, for example, who seldom even spoke back to their parents, were suddenly sent to war and given carte blanche to release all such feelings in combat; and I am referring particularly to the last two wars (the war in Korea, 1950–53, and the war in Vietnam, 1964–73), not the Second World War.

[...] Many who entered that war feeling powerless were given advantages after it was over — incentives, education, benefits they did not have before it. [...]

If man does not know who breathes within him, and if man does not know who dreams within him, it is not because there is one who acts in the physical world and one completely separate who dreams and breathes. [...]

The part of you who dreams is the “I” as much as the part of you that operates in any other manner. The part of you who dreams is the part of you who breathes. [...]

But as in your life certain environments tend to encourage some people in the realization of their talents, and seem to hinder others in the development of their peculiar talents, so some personalities expand in their capabilities on your plane; and some who do rather poorly on your plane expand surprisingly on other planes.

They were particularly concerned in the beginning with developing a human being who would have built-in safeguards against violence. [...] Now psychologically you can see vestiges of this in certain individuals, who will faint, or even attack their own physical system, before allowing themselves to do what they think of as violence to another.

[...] Each entity who is born in flesh works toward the development of those abilities that can be best nurtured and fulfilled within the physical environment. [...]

Those who have left it have evolved into the mental entities that they always were, you see. [...]

[...] Some, after physical death, left to join those from the previous successful civilization, who had migrated to other planetary systems within the physical structure.

(Pause at 11:00.) Trust no person who tells you that you are evil or guilty by reason of your nature or your physical existence, or any such dogma. Trust no one who leads you away from the reality of yourself. (Long pause, eyes closed.) Do not follow those who tell you that you must do penance, in whatever form. [...]

There are those who make a practice of seeking aid from others, however, using this as a means of avoiding responsibility. [...]

You share an existence with others who are experiencing their own journeys in their own ways, and you have journeying in common, then. [...]

[...] What information and knowledge I have I try to give to you through Ruburt and Joseph (pause), who are parts of me in your space and time. [...]

It allows the light of its personality to shine purposely down those paths from which it has come, in order to help others who will follow; but the light is the light of vitality, and carries with it traces of the personality who lets it shine.

(At 8:55 PM Jane had the impression of the name, Alice Prentice, as that of the deceased high-school classmate of mine, who was now dead, that I had helped astrally. [...]

[...] It is you, so focused in physical reality, who do not listen to its voice, who do not understand that it is the great psychological strength from which your physically oriented self springs.

There is however a portion of you, the deeper identity who forms both the inner ego and the outer ego, who decided that you would be a physical being in this place and in this time. [...]

[...] You prefer to identify with the part of you who watches television or cooks or works — the part you think knows what it is doing. [...]

For those of you who wonder where I place the subconscious, as psychologists think of it, you can imagine it as a meeting place, so to speak, between the outer and inner egos. [...]
