3. This little note fits in here for two reasons: Jane’s pause, and Seth’s discussion of our kind of time. Here’s what I wrote at 9:55 in the 24th session for February 10, 1964: “Jane reports that when she pauses for Seth during a delivery, she can sense the whole concept of the subject being discussed. Subjectively, it appears to ‘hang over her.’ Since on those occasions it’s too much to handle at once, however, she feels Seth withdrawing it, to release it to her a little at a time in the form of connected words.”

9. At once Seth’s material reminded me of a novel about dolphins that Jane worked on in 1963. [...] We hadn’t realized it at the time, of course, but it embodied some of the ideas Seth was to enlarge upon in his own material. Jane had time to show her manuscript to one publisher — who rejected it — before the Seth material got under way. [...]

(Seth, in the 512th session in Chapter 1 of Seth Speaks: “Now at times I will be using the term ‘camouflage,’ referring to the physical world to which the outer ego relates, for physical form is one of the camouflages that reality adopts.”)

SDPC Part Three: Chapter 17 Nicoll Sue bitter probable Carl

Suddenly I am yanked away from this scene, and Carl [Sue’s husband] and I are sitting in a large room with Jane as Seth. Seth turns to Carl and gives him a long lecture. Carl smiles at him, and Seth says, ‘Now at the count of three, you will go into a deeper trance.’ Carl begins to do so. [...]

On Friday, October 9, 1970, I received a letter from a reader, Peg Boyles, about my book The Seth Material. With it she included an excerpt from Living Time by Maurice Nicoll, and another from a manuscript by Alice Bailey. [...] The Nicoll pages intrigued me, and I thought of asking Seth about some of Nicoll’s ideas.

Seth touches my shoulder, smiling. [...] Then Seth says, ‘In the earlier dream demonstration tonight, your father had problems of his own, and you ignored them. [...]

[...] In the last class, Seth had told the students that he would help those who were ready to project. Shirley felt Seth nearby a few nights later and was just about to leave her body when she got frightened and held back.

(Sometime after 9 PM Jane and I sat to see if Seth would come through. I told Jane she needn’t have a session, but she was willing enough if Seth decided to. She has been working long hours on her book for Prentice-Hall, The Seth Material, and has but a couple of chapters to rewrite. [...]

(Jane has had two recent, excellent and long sessions for her ESP class however, featuring both Seth and Seth II, and including new material.)

6. Jane covers our York Beach “dancing episode” in Chapter 2 of The Seth Material, and also quotes information Seth gave us on it in later sessions. The mystifying event took place during our vacation in York Beach, Maine, in August, 1963, a few months before Jane began to speak for Seth. [...] In the 9th session for December 18, 1963, Seth explained what we had been up to, and called our creations “fragments of our selves, thrown-off materializations of your own negative and aggressive feelings.” (Naturally, the more Seth told us about the human ability to generate such forms, the more questions we had!) In that 9th session Seth also used his term, “probable self,” for the first time.

Jane quotes Seth’s material from the 12th session much more extensively in Chapter 3 of The Seth Material; see Seth’s analogy involving cubes (realities) within cubes.

(In the last session, Seth began discussing separate photographs of Jane and me [taken at the ages of 12 and 2, respectively] in connection with his ideas about probable selves. Since we wanted Seth to continue with the same material tonight, we looked the pictures over again while waiting for him to come through. [...]

[...] I added that perhaps the important thing for us now was to observe our unfolding lives with Seth’s ideas of the larger, or whole self, in mind, and so achieve insights we could interpret in terms of probabilities. So we decided not to ask Seth to backtrack and give us material about the son my mother’s probable self had had in her reality, even though that son was a probable self of mine.

TES9 Session 507 November 10, 1969 test detail antagonistic torn inclinations

(Jane said she didn’t really want to speak for Seth’s entity tonight, if that’s what she was trying to do, so I suggested she break it off. Jane said “things were significant in the room,” a phrase she has used before when preparing to speak for Seth’s entity, or Seth II as we sometimes call “him.”)

(This session was held to obtains answers to two questions we had for Seth. Both pertained to Jane’s book on the Seth material, which she is just finishing. [...]

(By this I meant to ask Seth if he planned to dictate a chapter, or at least a few pages, for Jane’s book on the material. [...] But it can be seen that Seth doesn’t directly answer the question.)

(We found Seth’s data tonight on Jane’s reaction to tests very interesting. [...] The discussion veered around to our wondering how Jane would do under such conditions, when Seth abruptly resumed at 9:50.)

(I recently finished the blue man that Seth refers to. I painted a male in modern garb, but in reality, according to an amused Seth, the subject was a female clairvoyant who lived in Constantinople in the fourteenth century; unconscious distortions in my own perceptions led me to the male figure. Seth has given her the name Ianodiala. [...]

UR2 Section 6: Session 738 February 19, 1975 hill Foster house Avenue privacy

[...] All in all, I thought she was “recovering” quite easily from Seth’s data, and that she was helped here because we’d revisited the hill house today. Every so often someone wants to know about the extent to which we follow Seth’s advice or information, and I suppose a good answer is that we may decide to go along with it if it suits our conscious purposes to do so. Sometimes we don’t agree with what Seth tells us even when we know it’s good counsel. [However, Jane and I freely admit that on occasion we’ve made the wrong choice in deciding to ignore what Seth had to say; in retrospect we’ve seen that he gave out very valid material.]

(Seth had used more than half of Monday’s session to discuss our house hunting in connection with Sayre and Foster Avenue. [...] When Seth added the hill house to his list tonight, however, his connecting information about Jane and me was so intimate that we decided to delete parts of it. [...]

(After supper tonight I asked Jane if Seth would comment on the Grunaargh family of consciousness. [...]

DEaVF1 Essay 3 Friday, April 16, 1982 sinful thyroid superhuman gland hospital

[...] But instead: “Well, I guess I’ll do a Seth thing tonight,” she announced, rather to my surprise, “but it won’t be long at all….” This is the second time she’s spoken for Seth since leaving the hospital. When she went into trance at 7:39 her Seth voice had a distinct tremor—one decidedly more pronounced than on April 12—and a hard-to-define faraway quality. [...] I think that in the following excerpts Seth rather neatly encapsulates her past beliefs, her present condition, and how far she has yet to go in meeting her challenges. [...]

(We finally held our first “new” Seth session last Monday evening, on April 12. [...] Jane went into trance as easily as ever, but her Seth voice contained the same underlying tremor I’ve noticed on a number of occasions since she’s returned home. Remember that in the following excerpts Seth—who claims to be discarnate—calls Jane by her male “entity name,” Ruburt, and thus “he” and “him.”)

Indeed, Seth’s material on the magical approach was so fascinating that by the time he finished Dreams I’d already put together large portions of it in a separate book, even if much of it was personal. Not only that, but those “magical” sessions had naturally developed into another series, this time on a portion of the personality Seth called “the sinful self”—mine as well as that of others—and those sessions had in turn led me to produce many pages of material directly from my own sinful self. [...] Ironically, then, in the midst of my own half-conscious withdrawal I’d been giving birth to not only Seth’s Dreams, but several other intriguing long-range concepts. [...]

Equally important is Seth’s suggestion that Jane no longer needs “to try to be the perfect self,” even on an unconscious basis. And, frankly, I want a good amount of additional material—from Jane and from Seth—on her progress in resolving her deliberations on the merits of continuing physical life.

UR2 Section 5: Session 721 November 25, 1974 king Roman counterparts soldier Jamaica

(“Jamaica” took place on a Saturday, and Seth referred to it briefly in the next session, on Monday night. [...] Seth came back to Jamaica in Jane’s ESP class the next evening [on November 19]; at the same time he began discussing his concept of “counterparts,” which he formally introduces in tonight’s [721st] session for “Unknown” Reality. [...] And, obviously, Seth does a much better job of putting them all together than I could.

6. Here Seth refers to Through My Eyes — the book he suggested (in December 1972) that I write on the Seth phenomenon and other subjects. [...] Replying to all of those who have asked: So far I haven’t had the time to do more than short essays on art, Seth, the fairly recent deaths of my parents, and a few other topics for Through My Eyes. Certainly I won’t be able to work steadily on the project until Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality is ready for publication.

12. My Roman-soldier self might have “followed authority without question,” as Seth states in this (721st) session, yet he must have behaved with more than a little guile. In a private session held some time after he’d finished “Unknown” Reality, Seth again referred to the Roman — doing so because of additional material I’d produced about that first century personality. Seth:

15. In Appendix 18 I discussed to some extent the relationships involving Jane, Seth, and me. I chose not to study this paragraph of material in Appendix 18 because in it Seth mentions what I take to be probable lives involving Jane and me (when he speaks of our future lives), rather than reincarnational involvements we’ve had with Seth that “actually happened.”

TES4 Session 170 July 19, 1965 Footage dear display prove doctor

[...] It involved an informal exchange between Jane, Seth, Bill and Peggy Gallagher and myself, and lasted until about 1:30 AM. [...] Seth also stated he did not care particularly to have it on tape, or have notes taken. During this exchange Seth was in an excellent good humor. [...] And when it was over at last, and we were all weary, Seth, or Jane, was as capable as ever. [...] Seth said he could continue until dawn, and I believe it quite possible. [...]

(Although Seth said to forget about notes, I found myself making a few after a few minutes, out of habit. [...] Seth talked at a normal rate, and neither Peggy nor I made a serious effort to get it all down. Some of the material was a repeat, in a more informal way, of what Seth had said during the session itself. During this exchange it was obvious that Seth was enjoying himself immensely. More than once he referred to Bill Gallagher as his favorite Jesuit, and this is getting to be something of a standing joke between Bill and Seth.

(I joked with Seth about the great voice effects, and Seth agreed that he had not yet reached the peak in voice effects, at least as far as volume went. [...] This was a prolonged display that lasted more or less for the balance of the session, and seemingly could have continued until dawn without effort on Jane’s part, just as Seth said. [...]

(Seth was rather loathe to discuss the statue at first, but kept throwing out bits of information about it in between his protests. [...] The statue, of a mythological or Godlike being in a sitting position with its arms upraised, did come from Tibet, Seth said—a small area in a southwestern corner of the country. [...]

10. For some Seth material on suicide, see the first delivery for the 546th session, in Chapter 11 of Seth Speaks. In the 642nd session for Chapter 11 of Personal Reality, Seth mentioned that suicide can be “the result of passivity and distorted aggression, and of natural pathways of communication not used or understood.”

12. A note added later: I’m sorry to write that Seth didn’t discuss historical probabilities in the 736th session, or national counterparts either. I forgot to remind Jane of those topics before that session, just as I forgot to ask Seth about them while he was speaking. Several more sessions were held before I discovered the lapse, which occurred partly because I hadn’t typed the 735th session yet, and neglected to refer to my handwritten notes, and partly because in the meantime Seth had returned to his material on the families of consciousness. [...]

(As we waited for the session to begin Jane abruptly received a block of impressions from Seth. [...] The impressions are for use in either “Unknown” Reality, Jane said, or in Psychic Politics.5 She grinned: “Thanks, Seth.” [...]

[...] Seth’s going into historical probabilities in the next session,” she said. [...] There’s a lot there on national counterparts, too.”12 Then while I wrote this note she proceeded to tell me more about what Seth had in mind.

TES5 Session 207 November 10, 1965 electromagnetic static range heard Instream

(Before the session I mentioned that I hoped Seth would say more about John Bradley hearing Seth, as related in the 204th session. Seth gives us at least a little more information on this in the following sessions.

(It will be remembered that during the 199th, 200th and 201st sessions Seth conducted clairvoyant/telepathic tests with the Gallaghers while they were on vacation in Puerto Rico. Jane and I have now received from them their checklist, made against Seth’s predictions and statements, and as soon as it is typed up the material will be inserted into a session.

(When Seth is speaking rapidly I find that I write rapidly in order to keep up, often without much awareness of what I am putting down as far as meaning goes. [...] A case in point in the above delivery would be the passage where Seth states: “Now Ruburt helped me, though consciously he was not aware of this, because of the peculiar circumstances.” [...]

(Just before the session Jane read an article in Fate magazine for December 1965, entitled Radiesthesia; Science of Tomorrow. Seth comments on the article.

TES9 Session 443 October 21 1968 ionosphere pyramid crew flight orbit

(I found myself wondering how it was possible for Jane to be speaking for Seth, while at the same time being aware of Seth’s entity. I was not sure if this is quite the same situation that has prevailed in the past when Jane has spoken for both Seth and his entity during the same session.)

[...] On Thursday, October 17, Jane unexpectedly received a royalty check from F. Fell re her ESP book; this after Seth had stated on page 107 that Jane would soon receive unexpected word regarding a book. [...] I wanted to know if this check represented the word referred to by Seth.

[...] Seth did not comment on either of these questions, as will be seen.

(Jane began speaking as Seth in a rather slow manner.)

2. A note added later: The Seth Material and Seth Speaks contain some references to the reincarnational connections that Seth postulates involving himself, Jane, and me. Such personal data is outside the scope of this book; but in Chapter Nineteen, Seth does go into his ideas on reincarnation, time, etc., in a more objective way.

(When she felt it was time to resume work on Seth’s book, Jane discovered to her surprise that she was somewhat nervous about it. Yet, speaking for Seth, she resumed dictation so smoothly that it seemed there hadn’t been any such thing as a three-month lapse….)

(I paused, considering the late hour, then asked Seth for his opinion about the recent visit of a young scientist from a Western state. Jane, both as Seth and as herself, had made a good start at tuning-in on certain technical information. [...]

[...] “I’m glad Seth’s working on his book again,” she said. [...] And so, like Seth Speaks, this is really two books in one: It’s not only about the nature of personal reality, but the circumstances surrounding Jane’s production of the material and the many ideas she has concerning it.

TES8 Session 414 June 5, 1969 Kennedy Senator nation ideals poison

(Here Seth refers to a portrait I am working on without a model, of a bald man with rather young features. [...] Seth then gave the artist’s name as Van Elver, saying he was from Norway or Denmark and that he was giving Seth painting data to be passed along to me.)

(Before the session Jane did not sense the pyramid or cone effect, as she usually does when Seth’s entity is to speak. Then Seth came through.

(During break I wondered aloud if Seth had to communicate with his entity before getting permission to speak. [...] The funny consequences are apparent when Jane resumes as Seth at 10:00.)

[...] These concerned John’s uneasy feeling about his wife Peg, last week; the strange loss of feeling in his legs in hot weather; and an effort to learn something from Seth about a pilot who disappeared some four years ago in a light plane near John’s hometown, Franklin, LA, which is close to the Gulf of Mexico.

UR2 Section 6: Session 728 January 8, 1975 ledge season mountain violets born

(4. Seth also said that it would be “not practical” and “boring” for him to relive his life as a pope, then added: “In those terms, many people do choose to reexperience what you would think of as a past existence in order to change it as they go along.” [...] Again in Seth Speaks, see Seth’s material at 10:07 in the 539th session for Chapter 10: “You may perfect [that past life], in other words, but you cannot again enter into that frame of reference as a completely participating consciousness — following — say, the historic trends of the time, joining into the mass-hallucinated existence that resulted from the applied consciousness of your self and your ‘contemporaries.’”

5. Point 5 at the start of this session contains my note that later I added to Appendix 18 a few of the comments Seth made in last night’s ESP class, concerning his connections with Jane. Seth obviously elaborated on that material here, but instead of quoting it in Appendix 18 also, I thought of letting the reader first come across it in this session; and so, to whatever tiny extent, this additional information now alters each reader’s present reality by changing his or her conception of that Jane-Ruburt-Seth relationship.

(Finally, as we waited for Seth to return, Jane said: “Now I am confused — I can get material on three different subjects….” [...] It didn’t take long: Out of those very interesting ideas he’d mentioned in class last night, Seth ended up discussing the one I’ve noted as point 5.

1. In the 13th session for January 6, 1964, Seth told us: “I will at a later date try to discuss the question of time. [...] And, of course, Seth has been taking time to talk about time ever since. [...]
