What kind of events can people form when they feel powerless, when their lives seem robbed of meaning — and what mechanics lie behind those events?

Few overt hints of this appear in Rob’s notes for Dreams. For one thing, the process of withdrawal was slow at the start. [...] Rob’s detailed notes about my physical condition, then, appear in those pages.

[...] Rob also wants this material presented as a unit so that it can serve as a foundation for future books we’re already discussing, and I agree with his decision.

I could feel Rob hoping that my own efforts would help me. [...]

[...] (Long pause.) Was Rob in the room? [...]

[...] But he should not present my ideas as if they come from thin air, for this is to rob the material.

[...] Any other approach would rob the material of rich dimensions, for I am the proof in my own pudding, you see. [...]

[...] Took our cat out though, sat on steps waiting for Rob to come home from work; feeling diminished. Got lunch, told Rob what happened, left house for walk to post office to mail manuscript, and to grocery store. [...]

[...] Rob and I in living room area; I told him about the mailman and all of a sudden I had the odd and striking feeling as I walked around my table that I passed through a “hole of nothingness”—and passed out of it again immediately. [...]

(Long pause at 10:26.) You are robbed, then, or you rob yourselves, of one of the most basic kinds of expression, since you can no longer identify yourselves with the forces of nature. [...]

3. “After last night’s (845th) session,” Jane wrote, “I watched television while Rob went for a walk. [...] The material came in ideas, though, not in Seth’s ‘finished copy.’ I told Rob about it when he came back, and now this morning I’ll see what I can recall for these notes.

(Long pause at 7:40.) In the meantime, Rob and I often thought that this very book would never be completed. [...]

[...] My thrashing around in bed woke Rob up.

[...] Unless Rob could while he was asleep too. [...]

[...] This presentation shows Seth’s way of weaving one subject through another as he inserts new discussions and information while building on past sessions, and points up his method of using Rob’s and my own daily experiences as a launching pad for his own material.

Except for punctuation, the Seth Material in this appendix is unedited, and Rob’s notes have been included.

(Sometime later during the night, when all was quiet, Jane awoke and received another message from Seth: Seth told me, Jane, I was wrong in saying to Rob “You were some help,” as his attack came on at once after the remark.)
