4. In this book there are many examples of various kinds of altered states of consciousness on Jane’s part. In addition to Seth’s volume, these sometimes resulted in very creative products of her “own”: Some of the psychic experiences connected with her book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time, which she began in November, 1972, are described in the 639th session in Chapter Ten. And in the 653rd session in Chapter Thirteen, we go into those involved with the writing of her long poem, Dialogues of the Speakers, on April 2, 1973.

[...] This was merely to remind you of certain continuities without going over events already mentioned—so going back to the point in time mentioned earlier in tonight’s session: when Dialogues was finished Ruburt tried it out on Prentice, and felt briefly that Tam might take it. [...] This had excited Ruburt, as had the Dialogues possibility. [...]

To him, Dialogues had to be published at once. [...] Here was Eleanor again, saying, “Save me Bed,” and even speaking of Dialogues while in no position to accept them. [...]

1. For those who are interested in publishing matters: Like counterpoint endeavors, Jane’s Dialogues and Adventures have become interwound with her Seth books. She discussed her “own” works in her Introduction to Personal Reality. I mention them in various notes in that book, and selections of poetry from Dialogues itself are presented in chapters 10 and 11; in the latter chapter Seth used one of those excerpts in connection with his own material. [...]

Jane finished Dialogues last year (in March 1973), and now (in June 1974) is halfway through the final draft of Adventures. I’m to finish illustrations for each of them by the end of this year, if possible, since Prentice-Hall will publish both books in 1975. Therefore, I have much work to do on the 40 pen-and-ink drawings for Dialogues, and on a series of diagrams for Adventures.

[...] Tam will also look at my first rough sketches for Jane’s book of poetry, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time.¹ Then on Wednesday night he’ll witness the scheduled 706th session. [...]

His interpretation in Dialogues of Rooney’s existence was excellent. Some ideas he has from William James (Varieties of Religious Experience), the seemingly disconnected realizations about his body, dreams and dialogues, will altogether help him.

[...] Ruburt is working well with his beliefs, and seeing them reflected in all portions of his life as mentioned, Dialogues, some other thoughts he had only beginning to be expressed in Tim’s (Foote) letters and his work, are working together in a therapeutic framework.

[...] I saw at once that if valid they also meant Jane must shelve her projected book, Adventures in Consciousness, and concentrate on things like Rich Bed, the Dialogues (poetry), and, perhaps, let Seth do his own thing in sessions. [...]

Dialogues could not be written by anyone without Ruburt’s experience. [...]

[...] (Bach’s description of Jane for Time.) The middle-aged lady was mentioned as middle-aged, and as a psychic, poet and science fiction writer—a turning of the ways in that the psychic books were mentioned, but no books of poetry, which gave impetus to Dialogues.

Ruburt has been working on a book of poems called The Dialogues, and in it recently he wrote of the double worlds. [...]

[...] The question has been exaggerated lately by Prentice-Hall’s decision to let Dialogues go out of print —John Nelson’s office wrote Jane last week, offering to sell us as many copies as we wanted at 85 cents a copy. Tam also told Jane last Friday that some other publishers of poetry have turned down Dialogues for paperback editions. [...]

[...] If you do not make artificial divisions, but see the day as your own, and know your intents, then you will find that while doing Dialogues, for example, ideas for paintings will come, and that while thinking of Larry’s (Herschaft) sketches you will also find future paintings coming to mind.

As Seth continued dictating The Nature of Personal Reality, I wrote a complete poetry manuscript, Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time, in which I worked out many of my own beliefs as per suggestions Seth was giving in his book. [...]
