(Seth did make a prediction: Jane will write an excellent book about the class sessions, and this will lead many to read the regular Seth material. Seth added that the material itself, in session format, will be published in its entirety one day. [...]
[...] After an average-length break an unrecorded interval of material followed, with Seth mainly answering questions for Carl. [...] [This is usually the case when I don’t take notes.] One such point had to do with Seth’s statement that whenever a person thinks strongly about another person, a portion of the “thinker” goes out to the “thought-subject,” etc.
[...] He teaches a high school course called “Inner and Outer Space,” in a small city in Connecticut; the class uses Jane’s book, The Seth Material, as text. [...]
*See Chapter Eighteen of The Seth Material.
[...] She is doing invaluable work as a research and editorial assistant; studying Jane’s notebooks, journals, and poetry, and putting together material from those sources to be included in this book. She has also been working with and choosing the published and unpublished Seth sessions for The Magical Approach. [...] Laurel has been involved with Jane’s, Seth’s, and my work since November of 1979, when she was 24 years old. Her boyfriend recommended Seth Speaks to her. [...] Laurel began writing to Jane and me in 1980 — while Seth was dictating The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events and Jane was writing her God of Jane. [...]
[...] Today I sent Sue a copy of a recent page of Seth’s material on the intellect, and a list of the questions about George that Seth discussed above. I expect her answers to tally with Seth’s.
[...] Conversations With Seth is Sue’s fine two-volume account of the ESP classes Jane held from September 1967 to February 1975. Tam’s enthusiastic and intuitive help was always invaluable to Jane, ever since he encouraged her to publish her first book, The Seth Material, in 1970.
(Now to my surprise, Seth answered a question or two I’d asked Jane earlier today to relay to Sue Watkins — material I could use in my chronology for Dreams. [...]
(Seth also said that Jane and I would die within a short time of each other, when our earthly work was finished. [...] Seth said that Jane would publish 5 books on the Seth Material; 3 novels; 3 books of poetry; plus 2 books to be dictated by Seth himself. [...]
(As predicted by Seth in the 420th session for July 1, 1968, Prentice-Hall is to publish the first book on the Seth material. [...]
The format of the book shall be simple, and it shall be a supplementary to the Seth material itself, for it shall be my own... [...]
[...] John said there is a tie-in here with some earlier material given by Seth concerning family travel and Hawaii. [...]
2. Just for my own study, I later inserted “[almost]” in Seth’s sentence because I hadn’t been quick enough to ask him to elaborate upon “the end result of an infinite series of sequences” when Jane delivered his material for him. After the session I began to wonder if Seth hadn’t contradicted himself by saying there could be an end result of something infinite. [...] Seth had indicated in the preceding paragraph of the session that such faltering of the reasoning abilities may occur. [...]
That note makes a handy reference for related concepts, for in it I also briefly discussed subatomic “particles”; the components of atoms; molecules; supposed faster-than-light particles (tachyons); Seth’s CU’s, or units of consciousness; his assertion that consciousness can travel faster than light in out-of-body states; Jane’s scientific vocabulary; and Einstein’s special theory of relativity. In addition, I gave references to other material, including some by Seth, on several of those topics.
Jane was so much at ease tonight that she thought of skipping the session, but she decided to try for it because she’d picked up material on it from Seth today, and made a few notes. [...]
[...] Jane’s delivery for Seth had become quite fast by break time. “Wow,” she exclaimed as she put on her glasses, “I was so far out of it, and the material got so complicated, that I didn’t know what was going on. [...]
3. A note added later: Of course, as soon as Seth mentioned units of consciousness in “Unknown” Reality I thought of the electromagnetic energy units (EE units, as he called them) that he’d discussed in 1969 and 1971. See sessions 504 through 506 in the Appendix of The Seth Material, and the 581st session in Chapter 20 of Seth Speaks, respectively. In the latter material he used several evocative analogies to describe his EE units: “… basically emanations rising from consciousness … the invisible breath of consciousness … The emanations are actually emotional tones … The units are just beneath the range of physical matter.”
[...] Seth came through with a page or so of material for Jane, then wound up the session at 11:48 P.M.
(I’d say that Seth’s information after 11:29 implies at least a partial answer to the questions Jane asked at break. And tonight, just as she had following last Monday’s session, Jane realized that she was actively delivering material on probabilities both in the sleep state and while partially awake.)
However, nowhere in tonight’s 682nd session does Seth refer to EE units by name — and for a reason, as will be seen late in the next session. In his earlier material he left himself plenty of room to add to his data on such units of consciousness. [...]
(In preparation for her next book, which will deal with the Seth material itself, Jane made an exploratory trip to several county records offices in Elmira; she is beginning an effort to track down Frank Watts. [...]
We will go more deeply into a discussion of the ways and means by which both dream images and other materializations are constructed. For there are various balances, or rather various delicate imbalances, which must be maintained; and there are differences also in the makeup of dream images, which are usually seen only by the dreamer, and some other more physical materializations which may be created by the semi-waking self, and under certain circumstances seen by others.
(“Good night, Seth.” A reminder: Seth alone calls for all underlined words.
(Last week we received Dr. Instream’s letter of September 13, in which he wrote that he would like to try straight clairvoyant communication with Seth on Monday and Wednesday nights at 10 PM. [...]
We’re still trying to get answers, with the help of the Seth material. I don’t mind noting that I think that with Seth, Jane has achieved some understanding of our species’ larger questions about life and death. Seth went into those questions while talking about Billy in sessions 837–39, but his material is much too long to print in Mass Events — and even too long to touch upon the highlights in any adequate way. There follow a few quotations from the material he gave us in those private sessions, however. [...]
I might add here another insight into the relationship between Jane and Seth — the kind of information we continue to search for. [...] From Seth she then picked up material to the effect that “time was in the present to the cat … in a way its life was eternal to it, whether it lived 10 months or 10 years, or whatever.” At the time (she wrote later for me) emotionally she objected strenuously to that message of Seth’s, since “it seemed too easy a way to sign off a cat’s life — or any other life — even if it was true. [...]
(Almost five weeks have passed since Seth gave the 835th session. [...] Let me try to put that unhappy event in perspective now, in the continuing chronology of our lives as they’re enmeshed in the Seth material in general and in Mass Events in particular.
(Seth also touched upon the question while dealing mainly with Billy’s death in the next three sessions, which are also private, but this evening he was more specific. Even though he didn’t call this 840th session book dictation, we’re presenting part of it here because the material fits in so well with his themes for Mass Events.)
We didn’t realize it at the time, but in these early sessions, Seth was gently leading us down the “garden path” — it became more difficult to think of the world in the usual terms, for example. Even though I had come to no conclusions as to what Seth was or wasn’t, the Seth material itself fascinated me. Its source in Seth made it only too clear that other channels of information and experience were open to us beside those we had known earlier.
Rob was intrigued not only by the material but by Seth himself as he began to manifest his own personality more clearly. My voice had been undergoing changes, becoming more similar to what we now call the Seth voice — deeper, lower, richer in tone than mine and more masculine. But on this particular night, Rob watched, amused, while Seth told him in no uncertain terms what he thought of my experiment — using my own lips to do it! [...]
(In an earlier session, Seth said that while on vacation in Maine, we both unwittingly created two images — versions of ourselves — and then reacted to them. See The Seth Material.)
[...] He could see the change that came over me while I was speaking for Seth, and Seth inspires confidence. Rob liked Seth immediately. [...] Through me, Seth related to Rob. [...]
[...] I’ll explain what I mean by referring to my two questions for Seth in reverse order. At the end of the 732nd session I expressed the hope that “… we’d soon begin to get the material we wanted …” from him on whether the counterpart and family-of-consciousness mechanisms applied to other species and forms than our own; hence my second question this evening. With Seth’s evident help, Jane herself began at least a partial answer — one that was cut off by our visitor, Barbara, pounding upon our door. [...] Not only that: I must note that even several years later we’ve still acquired no Seth material at all on such possible counterpart and family-of-consciousness roles. I also let go (although not consciously and deliberately) my plans to keep after Seth for that kind of information.
In a way, however, Seth may do Jane and me something of an injustice when he remarks, for instance, that the Sumari “don’t hang around to cut the grass….” [...] I doubt that the Seth material would exist in its present recorded form if we weren’t that way.
3. In view of Seth’s statement that “Many of the Sumari choose to be born in the springtime,” I decided to poll the members of Jane’s class for their months of birth. At various times, and usually in connection with other subjects, Seth has referred to many of them as being Sumari. Actually, I took my little survey on February 4, the evening following next Monday’s session, but give the rather ambiguous results here because of the predominately Sumari material in this (734th) session. [...]
(See Appendix 26 for some of the family-of-consciousness material that Jane delivered for Seth in ESP class yesterday evening.
In extracting material on dreams from our many sessions, I have, to some extent, ripped it out of its living context. [...] Seth’s monologues are broken up by humorous references or snatches of conversation with Rob. Seth’s own book, Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul, will be presented using the session format, however, so that the entire flavor of the sessions can be appreciated.
The nature of this book also meant that the Seth material was chosen exactly because it related to subjective experiences such as dreams and consciousness. Seth also relates beautifully to other individuals in sessions and in give-and-take conversations, as I’ve tried to show several instances. [...]
Seth’s own book will carry his discussions of the dream state still further. [...] Rob tells me, however, that it contains a good deal of new material on the nature of dreaming consciousness.
And so the exterior world emerges from the interior one even as this physical book materialized from the inner reality of inspiration, creativity and dreams.
(We discussed the general implications of Seth’s material on my mother — that she was not only “alive” after her “death,” but that a portion of her was focused upon Jane and me. Jane had allowed Seth to talk about the whole situation in a more personal way than she usually does; the result is that we already have more data on Stella Butts than on the earlier deaths of Jane’s own parents [in 1971 and 1972], for instance.4 We knew that Seth wouldn’t continue describing my mother and her present reality indefinitely; such a study could easily grow into a book by itself. In addition, Jane holds deeply felt convictions about giving material on survival personalities; the information in Appendix 10 has a bearing here. I also think that Seth will be able to say more on the beliefs behind her feelings as this book progresses.
[...] But that’s funny: I don’t think of Seth being over there — just the information. It’s as though I wait for the material to fall into a slot; then Seth, who’s here” — she touched her belly — “deals with it.”
[...] When Seth comes through he’s at the same level the material’s at, and he — or I — can then pull it in … It’s as though there’s a store of information there, but I have to go through a door of consciousness to reach it.”
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
[...] For whatever reasons since holding the 709th session, she hasn’t had to wait for that certain, more “difficult” kind of trance to develop before launching into Seth’s book material; see the note at 10:55 for that session. [...] For other contrasting examples, in Volume 1 see the notes closing out sessions 688 and 703, as well as related material in Appendix 4, wherein I wrote about the translation challenges she’s often faced since beginning “Unknown” Reality: “— hence her talk before many of these sessions … about attaining that ‘certain clear focus,’ or ‘the one clearest place in consciousness,’ before she began speaking for Seth.”
(This afternoon Jane told me that in her sleep last night she’d had bleed-throughs from Seth about the material to come next in his book. She described it to me — and tonight Seth followed that subject matter very closely in the first part of the session. [...]
(And added a year later: Seth also discussed the will in a personal session that was held just six months after he’d finished dictating “Unknown” Reality in April 1975. As soon as Jane came through with the material, I thought of adding some of its more generalized portions to this session. Seth:)
1. See the references to the Dr. Instream material (for 1965–67) in Appendix 18 with its Note 18. In chapters 5 and 6 of The Seth Material, Jane described other contacts we made as we sought to understand her psychic growth.
(Both of us have been curious as to how the material in Monday night’s session fits in with that on the Sinful Self, which Jane still hasn’t typed except for the first five pages. I’m somewhat handicapped because I don’t have the Sinful Self material to compare anything to, but I’m sure there are many connections between the two. I’d planned to write down some questions for tonight, based on Monday’s session, but had so many actually that I decided to let that project go, trusting that Seth will cover them in his own way.
(This afternoon while I was out doing errands, Jane had a rather strong if not lengthy experience that seemed to encompass an emotional understanding of Seth’s material in the last session [for Monday]. [...]
(One of the questions concerned Seth’s material on page 218 of the last session, when he referred to the feeling that Jane and I have, that we had “an even more unfair advantage” without children—this, as he’d stated earlier, on top of our already being set apart from others because of our creative gifts. [...]
[...] Your notes were a way of presenting the material. The symptoms were a way of presenting the material. [...] This will be a relatively brief session, and again other psychological events connect the session material with your private experience as you make certain translations that are necessary quite for yourselves. [...]
[...] I told Jane I felt that regardless of John’s evocative visit Seth would have mentioned my eye phenomena tonight, given his subject matter for the session. And yet, I added, because of the very nature of the Seth material, I’m also bound to think that beneath that simplified explanation there are “deeper” connections—in which the television program, her reactions to it, John’s appearance, and tonight’s session are all related. [...]
[...] I’m also presenting it because it shows how an event on one day of our lives—a television program—influenced Jane’s delivery of one session of the Seth material. [...]
[...] In Mass Events Seth told us: “Consciousness forms the genes, and not the other way around, and the about-to-be-born infant is the agency that adds new material through the chromosomal structure.” [...]
(See the 833rd session for the proper connections with some of Seth’s material here. His references to my own material being valid concerned my insights that many of the heads I paint represent my own psychic searches, or efforts, to obtain understanding of the dimensions of the psyche through reincarnation and counterpart depictions of those various personalities.)
(The following material is from the 833rd session. [...]
Your own material is excellent and valid. [...]
That is what I meant when I said the material was valid. [...]
(Within the last two weeks Jane delivered the final version of her book, The Seth Material, to Prentice-Hall. They have asked her to do a book on Seth, dreams, and reincarnation.
[...] She said she knew from the beginning of the session that Seth was “putting me out deeper.” She knew Seth was talking about his own projected book, and avoided blocking, etc. She hadn’t been using suggestion in an effort to get this material tonight.
[...] Seth could develop this material, since I do not know how one of these men “influenced my life at one time,” etc. [...]
The next chapter will relate what experience I have had in all my existences, with those pyramid gestalts of which I speak in the material, and with my own and about my own relationship with the personality you call Seth Two, and with multidimensional consciousnesses far more evolved than I.
(I presume here that by “earliest session” Seth refers to his first material on the fifth dimension, given in the 12th session. [...] See Volume 1, page 8. This first session material was given to us through Frank Watts, however. Frank Watts is a fragment of Seth’s entity. Seth stated recently that the Seth material begins when he announced his presence to us by name, and this would be in the 4th session. See the 85th session, Volume 2, page 336, for Seth’s statement concerning the Frank Watts material.)
[...] Jane has been quite surprised to find many references in these books that tally with what Seth has said. Many other points in the books have served as jumping-off points for Seth’s material, also.)
(See the 41st session for Seth’s first long dissertation on the spacious present. [...] As this material continues to expand it becomes more difficult to pinpoint references on a subject to a given few pages.)
(She had no idea of the material for the session as the time for it approached. [...]
(Except for a few instances in which I eliminated repetitive phrases, all of the material Jane gave after 10:47 is unchanged here. At times, because her delivery had become so steady, even precise, I’d wondered if she had entered into a Seth trance, but one without Seth’s usual voice effects. [...] Nor had she spoken for Seth, I realized by the time she finished. [...]
[...] During the session Seth discussed inner sound in connection with Jane’s own physical symptoms. (In Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, see the 679th session before 10:31, and Note 8. The quotations below are also related to the material on inner sound, light, and electromagnetic values in Chapter 5 of Personal Reality.) Seth, at 11:07 P.M.:
(Now here’s how I “put this together with the Seth stuff,” meaning that from my viewpoint I’ll briefly discuss the various states of consciousness Jane enjoyed today, as well as her massive sensations and her psychic perceptions of sound in connection with tonight’s session. [The session itself of course, embodied yet another altered state.] At the same time, the reader can make his or her own intuitive connections in assembling such materials, even if “only” in unconscious ways.
2. In Appendix 19, see the 612th session for material on both Seth Two and Jane’s feelings of massiveness.
Last month, in the opening notes for Session 931, in Chapter 9, I recorded that on July 8 Jane spontaneously wrote “a complete outline for a book on Seth’s magical approach to reality.” Actually, we’ve been quite aware of the potential of such an idea ever since Seth began that material a year ago.3 After supper this evening we went over the loose-leaf notebook of information Jane has accumulated for The Magical Approach to Reality: A Seth Book, and discussed how she could follow her outline in putting all of that material—on our dreams, psychic events and insights, her poetry and our essays—together with Seth’s private sessions on the magical approach. [...] Such a book would involve the publication of much Seth material that could either lie in our files for a long time, or never be published. [...]
1. Recently I asked Jane if Seth could give us some information on the consciousness connected with nuclear energy—a fascinating question I’ve often speculated about—and she promised me that he’d discuss it soon. I think his material will certainly include many original insights into the whole subject of consciousness-and-energy in general, as well as into the role of consciousness in events like the accident at Three Mile Island. I reminded Jane that some time ago Seth had remarked that as physical creatures we human beings cannot bear to directly confront the basic, vast, unimaginably awesome and creative consciousness of All That Is. [...]
[...] In essence my memory had been fairly accurate—yet rereading Seth’s material was like a revelation to me. [...] Through Seth she expressed the heart of her mystical knowledge:
As he’d hinted in his greeting this evening, Seth did have some material for us—regardless of my wife’s announced disinterest—and that information contained some surprises. [...]
(The Spazianis know about the Seth material, of course. This evening Jimmy asked if Seth could help him locate the missing cover for the thermostat, which is located in the downstairs hall of the apartment house. [...] We promised to ask Seth’s help.
(In line with the above material, it might be noted that Seth had cautioned Jane to go easy with her “ecstasy” experiments in the 54th session, May 18, 1964. [...] Seth stated that he did not realize Jane would achieve this focusing of inner energy so early in her studies with psychological time, and furthermore said that it could have unpleasant effects if it was unwittingly directed toward someone else. [...]
(Jane now began to take some rather lengthy pauses as she delivered this more personal material. I did not feel that she was worrying about its accuracy particularly, merely that such information is evidently more carefully presented by Seth lest it arouse such outer ego fears; hence it “comes out” at a slower rate. [...]
[...] I did remember Seth’s previous answer concerning the top question above, and it was to the effect that his experience with Jane and I is his first, at least on this plane. [...] I am making my own version of an index for the material, and have not yet covered that particular session.
