The dimensions of actuality possible to All That Is of course far exceed those presently available to you. In a manner of speaking, you have created many probable gods through your own thoughts and desires. They become quite independent psychic entities, validities in other levels of existence. The one All That Is is aware not only of its own nature and of the nature of all consciousness, but is also aware of its infinite probable selves. We go here toward subjects in which words become meaningless.
In fact it is not a product in those terms at all, but a process of becoming. All That Is is not a product, finished or otherwise, either. There are probable gods as there are probable men; but these probable gods are all a part of what you may call the soul of, or the identity of, All That Is; even as your probable selves are all a portion of your soul or entity.
Ideas that you have entertained and not used may be picked up in this same manner by other probable you’s. Each of these probable selves consider themselves the real you, of course, and to any one of them you would be the probable self; but through the inner senses all of you are aware of your part in this gestalt.
If there are individual probable selves, then of course there are probable earths, all taking roads that you have not adopted. Beginning with an act of imagination in the waking state, you can sometimes follow for a short way into the “road not taken.”
You originate ideas then and receive them, but you are not forced to actualize unrealized probable acts that come to you from other probable selves. Now there is a natural attraction between yourself and other probable selves, electromagnetic connections having to do with simultaneous propulsions of energy. By this I mean energy that appears simultaneously both to you and probable selves in other realities; psychic connections having to do with a uniting, sympathetic, emotional reaction and a connection that shows up very strongly in the dream state.
You would learn the instrument far quicker, you see, if the impulse was originating with a probable self. It goes without saying then that probable selves exist in your “future” as well as your past. It is very poor policy to dwell negatively on unpleasant aspects of the past that you know, because some portions of the probable self may still be involved in that past. The concentration can allow greater bleed-through and adverse identification, because that part will be one background that you have in common with any probable selves who sprang from that particular source.
[...] The probable selves are to gain awareness of the other probable selves, and realize that all are various manifestations of the true identity.
Now: One event can be actualized by more than one probable self, however, and you will resemble some probable selves more than others. Because you are involved in an intricate psychological gestalt such as this, and because the connections mentioned earlier do exist, you can avail yourself to some extent of abilities and knowledge possessed by these other probable portions of your personality.
In June of 1969 we were really startled when Seth told us that Rob might be visited by one of his “probable selves.” At the time of the session, we didn’t know what probable selves were, though Seth had used the term once or twice in the past. What is a probable self? According to Seth, each of us has counterparts in other systems of reality; not identical selves or twins, but other selves who are part of our entity, developing abilities in a different way than we are here.
“This system of probabilities is quite as real as the physical system, and you exist in it whether or not you realize it. [...] You may become aware of it [or of one of your probable selves] while in the dream state occasionally. [...] So do probable events. [...]
[...] The probable actions were definitely experienced, however, and such experience makes up the existence of the ‘probable selves’ just as dream actions make up the experience of the dreaming self. [...]
Seth has given us more material than this, of course, on probable universes and events. He also discusses probabilities in connection with precognition and time. [...] As I write this now, we are approaching the autumn months when Seth said contact would again be possible.
Each probable self you see also has future selves. [...] The term includes the whole self as it consists of the self that you know, probable selves, reincarnated selves, and selves more highly developed than the self that you know.
[...] What you may term the reality of possibilities is an example. [...] In this system, all the other yous seem to exist in a probable reality.
[...] You are far from identical with these probable selves, and yet if you met them you would instantly know that you had found unknown portions of yourself.
To any of them, the others would seem to exist in a probable universe. [...] All of you did not have the same parents, for example, and these are portions of probable situations existing in your own parents’ separate lives, as you think of their lives.
[...] You give probable selves a foundation and history and identity, and without your creation of them they would not exist. [...] All existence is vulnerable … to the possibilities and probabilities of creation that dwell deeply with it. [...]
But what is the point of all these probable selves? [...] Seth is still discussing probabilities in his own book, so we don’t have all the answers, by any means. One night, Rob asked Seth how our own egos had changed as a result of our sessions, however, and Seth used the question as an opportunity to give us more information about personality and probable selves.
You are upset over the implication of probable selves, and that caused the headache. [...] You do not need to feel guilty over the creation of any probable selves. [...]
[...] The term includes probable selves, reincarnated selves and selves more developed than the self that you know. [...]
And I know I am only going to confuse you but if you have probable selves then you know there are probable universes and probable earths and probable histories of your earth and you see what this is going to do to your concept of reincarnation as you now hold it. So within the system that you know, you also have probable reincarnational selves within those probable historical earths. [...]
Now, briefly last evening, in a chapter of my own book, we were discussing probabilities and I want you to understand a few points along these lines. [...] But I also want you to know that your present thoughts, feelings and emotions not only affect you but affect your probable selves and yet .... [...]
You are presently within one system of reality, one probable reality, the reality that you now know and form physically. Now within that one reality you have reincarnational selves, they belong within the concept of that existence. All probable systems do not have reincarnational existences. [...]
[...] The personality in its entirety includes, therefore, probable selves of which you are presently unaware. [...]
11. Seth’s description of how I’m blending two probable selves reminded me of his material on the way Jane is doing the same thing. [...] It can hardly be coincidental that Jane and I are using our individual writing abilities as the cohesive — the “glue” — to unite our respective sets of probable selves.
All probabilities are probed and experienced, and all possible universes created from these units. Therefore, there are realities in which the endless probabilities of one given event are probed, and all experience grouped about that venture.
[...] The existence of probable realities and probable selves in no way denies the validity of your own experience or individuality. [...]
[...] The body that you have is a probable body. [...] All of the other possible lines of development also occur, however. [...]
[...] Reincarnated selves are no more than probable selves, choosing to experience various forms. [...]
Your physical universe represents one thought in changing aspects of becoming, with all possibilities inherent within the thought unfolding into existence. The thought also exists in other systems, being materialized according to other camouflage patterns, and entirely different possibilities arising because of the differences.
[...] Action divides itself into various selves, and then explores the moment points of experience, for each new self is indeed a new action, an original act.
([Nadine.) “Would it be possible, like, to have a husband and wife that were, when they were gotten together, you would have a great person with opposite personalities, could they possibly be two probable selves?”)
That probable self can become a whole entity if it so chooses. Now some selves do not choose to become entities. [...]
Up to the probable selves for each portion of consciousness has available to it whatever potentials it is willing to seek, and there are no limitations placed upon it either by those who created it or by itself. [...]
[...] And life did not begin as some isolated single organism that in the great probabilities of existence meant another, and then another, and then another, until a chain of molecules could be made and selves formed. [...]
[...] Not because I say you will attend it, but because you have already decided to attend it, and I would dearly like to see some memory on the part of the conscious selves involved. There will be some probable selves there, and I would like to introduce you to each other. [...]
[...] When possible think of these persons also when you discover them so that in your daily waking life you can receive some more intuitional information as to the kind of work and endeavors in which you are all involved. [...] Then when you are doing well in class, you will be able to relate not only to some reincarnational selves but to the inner self and to its activities and use these activities to enrich your normal daily encounters and to increase the nature and extent of your perceptions. [...]
([Margie:] “But there are many probable selves, are there not?”)
Now the members of your so-called probable class are involved, in your terms, at precisely this point with the same experiment. Therefore, of course, they consider this the probable class. [...]
(To Sue after stating she had a headache.) You are simply upset over the implications of the probable selves and that caused the headache. [...] You do not need to feel guilty of the creation of any probable selves. [...]
All existence is vulnerable for vulnerability is the framework and the sensitivity that makes existence possible. All That Is is vulnerable to All That Is and the possibilities and probabilities of creation that dwell deeply within it. [...]
Many personalities do, but when you came into this existence, you came into it with problems and challenges you gave yourself and these probable selves exist in the same manner. [...]
[...] However, each of you are here because you realize you are shadows of your own true selves. You want to bring into physical actuality the true selves that you know are yours and as long as you have this desire, the desire will find a means to completion. [...] There is no reason why, following the material and following your own individual ways, you cannot step out of the shadows of yourselves and become the inner selves that you know that you are. [...]
There are traces in your present experience of your probable selves, even as there are signs in each individual of all the great talents shown and developed so flamboyantly by a few. [...]
As a rule you have enough difficulty dealing with the day’s occurrences, much less next week’s, and so in the sequence of events the reality of probable actions is usually hidden from your view. [...] In each of your “reincarnational” existences you are faced with the same relationship with probabilities. [...]
[...] In the same way, following your own “trace” experiences and characteristics, you can discover those “probable” abilities that are yours, and uncover to some degree the nature of probable actions open to you for physical materialization.
[...] It carries the memory and simultaneous experience of each of those selves.
[...] The thought may be relatively meaningless to any given probable self and it may be very fleeting. The probable selves in one way or another will react, forming other action-events. [...]
[...] Any given thought experienced by you is experienced by all possible you-selves, though in various forms.
A thought experienced by you is also experienced by your probable selves, you see, in one way or another. [...]
It’s one thing to accept the idea of probable systems and probable selves as an exciting intellectual concept, and quite another to accept the practical considerations involved if you think of probabilities as plain facts of existence. Quite frankly, I didn’t expect any of us to have practical experience along these lines, thinking that any probable realities were beyond our reach. [...] As you’ll see, Sue kept in touch with the probable Rob and Jane in her dreams. [...]
At this point, I am suddenly hit with the the knowledge that this is the dream state of another probability system involving Jane and Rob’s probable selves here. [...]
The couple do exist, probable selves of your own in a different system. Your friend, in developing her own abilities, has become involved with activities in probable fields and was drawn to the couple emotionally because of her emotional connection with you in this system.
To a large extent, you see, you and Ruburt were also responsible for the contact, for were it not for your own present experiences, your relationship with me and your friendship with the girl [Sue], the help would not have been given to these probable selves of yours. [...]
[...] Groups of probable selves, then, can and do form their own identity structure, which is quite aware of the probable selves involved. [...]
[...] Any consciousness automatically tries to express itself in all probable directions, and does so. [...] You grow probable selves as a flower grows petals. Each probable self, however, will follow through in its own reality — that is, it will experience to the fullest those dimensions inherent to it. [...]
[...] The body is at any given moment, however, a mass conglomeration of energy formed from that rich bank of probable activity. [...] On deeper biological levels the cells straddle probabilities, and trigger responses. [...] Each probability — probable only in relation to and from the standpoint of another probability — is inviolate, however, in that it is not destroyed. [...]
[...] People who are still worrying about one soul, gods, and devils, must be helped to relate to greater realities from their own framework, and gently led away from it if possible. Probabilities have been mentioned in such a way that alternate realities are presented, showing such people that choices are available.
Now the consciousness of such beings would also contain the consciousness of large numbers of probable selves and systems, experienced quite vividly and clearly as multiple presents. These multiple presents can be altered at any of an actual number of infinite points; infinity not existing in terms of one indefinite line, but in terms of numberless probabilities and possible combinations growing out of each act of consciousness.
(9:30.) In greater terms, it is impossible to separate one physical event from the probable events, for these are all dimensions of one action. It is basically impossible to separate the “you” that you know from the probable you’s of which you are unaware, for the same reasons. There are always inner pathways, however, leading between probable events; since all of them are manifestations of an act in its becoming, then the dimensions between these are illusions.
[...] Using your terms now and speaking as simply as possible, there are other forms of matter beyond those you see. [...]
In terms of probabilities, therefore, you choose certain acts, unconsciously transform these into physical events or objects, and then perceive them. [...]
[...] This symbol explains the workings of the probable system, all possible variations being formed, and each creatively bringing forth another.
You are also receiving information from other probable selves. [...]
[...] Probable selves can be viewed by myself and others like me, for we see your reality in all of its dimensions, and you view it from the small present forms that you know. [...]
[...] There are gradations in matter as there are gradations in your color, realities that blend one into the other, and probable systems in which various representations, reflections, shadows and echoes, all probable creations of any given self, mature.
According to the intensity of the situation, now, another also desirable solution may be worked out in a probable reality. On an unconscious level you are aware of your probable selves, and they of you. [...] It does mean that your probable selves and you share in a body of symbolism, background, and ability. The multistructured nature of the dream state allows for dream dramas in which probable selves do appear. [...]
(Slowly:) The dream state, however, does operate as a rich web of communication between probable selves and probable existences. All probabilities spring from inner reality, from the psyche’s own inner activity and structure. [...] Instead it must recognize its power as the director of probable action, and no longer inhibit its own greater capacities.
[...] Experience it as clearly as possible imaginatively, but with the idea of its probable extensions. [...] It is not a part of the past that you know, but an intersection point where that past served as an offshoot into a series of probabilities that you did not follow.
[...] It does mean that even in those terms, and consciously unknowing, mankind is experimenting with a probable species and working out quite spiritual issues. Your probable futures and your probable pasts, in larger terms, exist at once. [...]
For myself, I think of reincarnational selves as having their roots in the physical reality we know (whether in simultaneous or linear terms of time), but of probable selves as having much wider and more complicated ranges of existence: I believe that even though we create them on an individual basis, our probable selves can reach into a multitude of other realities, both physical and nonphysical. I don’t remember Seth discussing such “probable” possibilities in just that way, especially, and they would be much too involved to go into here, but I’ve often felt that some of our probable selves move into realms of being that are literally incomprehensible to us, so different — alien — are they and their environments from our usual conceptions of “solid” physical existence.
After my first Roman, I speculated about whether I might have touched upon a reincarnational self or a probable one. See, therefore, Seth’s material on reincarnation in Chapter 4 (among others) of Seth Speaks; then see his material on probable selves in Chapter 16 of that book, and in Session 680 for Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality.
[...] The focus of each of their consciousnesses therefore was made up of a certain kind of mixture that made such probabilities, in your terms, possible as prime incentives.
[...] So in this work I am presenting you not only with probabilities as conjecture, but, often, showing you how such probabilities affect your daily lives, and giving examples of the ways in which Ruburt’s and Joseph’s lives have been so touched.
[...] Jane had begun delivering the Seth material late in 1963, and soon afterwards Seth started developing his ideas on probabilities.1 Many times while looking at the snapshots since then I’d found myself speculating about the probable realities surrounding their two young subjects. [...] But what of all the other paths our probable selves had embarked upon since those pictures had been taken? By now, did those photographs actually depict the immature images of us, the Jane and Rob we knew and had always been, or from our standpoint did they show a probable Jane, a probable Rob — two individuals who long ago had set out upon their own journeys through other realities? [...] Maybe I just wanted Seth to comment on probabilities in a more personal way. [...]
[...] Very simply, probable realities flow from the multitudinous actions — or events — we may envision, but choose not to actualize physically. But any motion of ours remains quite valid once it’s conceived, and is carried out in all of its variations by probable selves in other realities. [...] Jane has had a modest success in touching upon a few of her probable selves, and plans to write about those experiments and others she hopes to conduct.
Seth, in his material on probable systems in Chapter 16 of Seth Speaks, says: “The soul can be described for that matter as a multidimensional, infinite act, each minute probability being brought somewhere into actuality and existence; an infinite creative act that creates for itself infinite dimensions in which fulfillment is possible.”
Then see Chapter 15 of The Seth Material: Probable Selves and Probable Systems of Reality.
