(Seth, then, would be a message from the source self except that in this case the messenger is the message, formed into a richly “worded” psychological structure instead of into dry words on, say, a telegram. Seth in sessions would stand for Jane’s Seth Aspect, who does indeed exist in a different kind of reality than ours. But that “invisible” Seth would send out an actual psychological structure that takes over in place of Jane’s, as her own structure voluntarily steps aside during sessions. [...]

“At the same time — and this is the difficult part to explain — neither of the two faces would ever see the other world. They would not [usually] be aware of each other, and yet each would be fully self-conscious.”

[...] Just how would Seth propose to have his “previous personalities speak for themselves….”? Since Seth presumably wouldn’t simply relay such messages, would Jane find herself giving voice for a host of others, male and female, young and old, from many time periods and of the most diverse nationalities? A long project, and one for which she would use her abilities in new ways.

[...] But, scientifically, this would not be proof of my existence as an independent personality who has survived physical death. [...] Either way, this would be no proof as to my independent nature. [...]

[...] Jane now felt so relaxed that she didn’t know whether she could continue the session, or would even want to. We sat waiting to see what would happen. [...]

(Jane had no special questions, beyond saying she hoped Seth would continue with material on Frameworks 1 and 2. She was very relaxed, and expressed qualifications about having s session; she did want to try, though.

[...] His illness made performance more difficult, and yet in periods of rest he would start out again expecting to make the same leaps, and so often he did.

[...] Incidentally, Ms. O’Keefe wrote us that Jane’s Cézanne would be in the library of the British Psychic Society. [...]

[...] Any violation against nature would bring about a feeling of guilt so that when a like situation was encountered in the future, man would, in that moment of reflection, not repeat the same action.

Since this “one God” of Carter’s, however, can obviously have such different ideas, saying one thing to one nation and the opposite to another, then men will begin to check their nationalistic lists of divine instructions, discovering that to one extent or another this God would seem to have told several different groups of people that they were chosen above others, that their enemies would be vanquished, and that they might indeed defend their divine rights through whatever unfortunate but necessary means.

At various times this one God of Carter’s seems to have said, on more unearthly subjects, that the Jews would be saved, while our infidels languished in the deepest hell, or that the Mohammedans would be saved—and throughout history as you know it, and as you do not know it, the stories have thrived. [...]

It would do Carter well on one level to question this God more thoroughly. [...]

Without the experience itself these particular abilities would not have developed—that of course or another similar episode. The same sort of development would not have been initiated here in a session for some time, simply because the emotional conditions would not be met. [...]

(Jane had no idea of what Seth would talk about during the session, although both of us hoped he would discuss the events of last Friday evening, September 23, at home. [...]

[...] Barbara could verify none of this experience, which would be the case were it buried in the subconscious. Bill Gallagher took us on a ride in the hopes the cold night air would help Jane snap out of it; so at 1:00 in the morning we were bouncing through Elmira, Elmira Heights, and Horseheads. [...]

And while awareness of clairvoyance is fairly rare, it does exist; and though watered down in most instance, is a natural method of warning individuals of happenings with which their own outer senses would not be familiar. [...] Without constant clairvoyance on the part of every man and woman, existence on your plane would involve such inner, psychological insecurity that it would be completely unbearable.

If cause and effect were an absolute law, then continuity would also have to be an absolute law, and all or any evidences of clairvoyance, or viewing the future, would be absolutely impossible, even in your universe, and this simply is not so. [...]

You cannot deny your own psychological reality, but sometimes it seems as if you would if you could. [...]

[...] Seth insisted that those powers, followed at least in principle, would raise man’s estate and fill it with a brilliance and joy in which the old problems of the species would largely disappear.

Value fulfillment is the largest issue here, both with Seth’s book and my own experience, and if I really understood what Seth was saying in this book, I would not have needed to undergo such an uncomfortable drama in my daily life.

[...] In the same way, if he could count on you in the exercises for a while, this would relieve him of the fear that the project, begun unsuccessfully in the past, and not continued, would follow the same pattern. [...]

If he left himself alone work-wise there would be plenty of accomplishment, but he does not believe this. [...]

(Pause at 8:43.) Their dreams would then be shared by the tribe in the morning, or at special meetings, when each dreamer would give a rendition of the dream or dreams that seemed to be involved. In the same way, other dreamers would simply check with the dreamers of other villages or tribes—perhaps a hundred or even more miles distant. [...]
