Sometimes Rob would use such an envelope at once; at other times he would save it for a future session.

Seth told Dr. Instream that he would be moving to a Midwestern university by the end of the year, for example. I have no idea if Dr. Instream had any indication of this ahead of time, but he did move when Seth said he would, and to a Midwestern university. [...] Enough of them would have added up to something. So would a high enough percentage of hits on specific names and dates and so forth, statistics or no.

[...] I never knew whether or not we would have an envelope test. Often I was afraid of having a session for fear we’d have an envelope test and the results just would not apply. (This never happened, incidentally, though the impressions given were not always as specific as we would have liked.) Actually I didn’t care what was in the envelopes—I just wanted to know if Seth could tell us, and I wanted him to be absolutely right each time. [...]

[...] At 9 P.M. as usual, Seth would begin with the theoretical material in which we were increasingly interested. [...] By then it was usually past midnight, and we would be exhausted.

If you would identify with your own psychological reality, following the inward structure of thoughts and feelings, you would discover an inward psychological infinity. These “infinities” would reach of course into both an infinite past and future. [...]

(A query: With the individual analyses done, would it be possible to incorporate them all into one masterwork? Such a project would be a formidable one, I think, and would take at least a book in itself.

[...] For Chapter 19 of Politics (which is to be published in 1976) Jane transcribed from her library, in part: “If you imagine the official numbers 1 to 10 in a row, then there would be an infinite number of unofficial 1’s hidden in the 1 you saw, and an infinite number of spaces between the official 1 and 2. The position of the 1 on the paper would represent our sense-data world, while the invisible 1’s behind the official 1 would represent the official 1’s hidden values and infinite probabilities.”

I told you that as you considered moving your attitudes would suddenly become quite clear, and other issues would be deeply involved. [...] True.) The idea of mobility in one direction, and of moving, would cause all of your other ideas to move.

Even when you lost sight — as you knew you would — of those deep connections, they would continue to operate until, in its own way, man’s consciousness could rediscover the knowledge and put it to use — deliberately and willfully, thereby bringing that consciousness to flower. In your terms this would represent a great leap, for the egotistically aware individual would fully comprehend unconscious knowledge and act on his own, out of choice. (John Bradley took with him Volume I of the Seth Material, consisting of the first 15 sessions, first carbon; two friends of his who are professional typists had offered to try copying the material, and John thought that this amount of material, 147 pages, would be sufficient to test their interest and staying power. He would see us in two weeks.)

You then project this, thinking that it would happen to your brother first. [...] You come to the surface because you realize that you would never in actuality let that kind of a situation keep you under for long. [...]

[...] For you would have to get further work, you feared, to help your parents. And to you this would represent a type of execution.

Also, you are not at all certain in the dream that you would not prefer him to find outside employment, rather than increase your own work load, if a situation arose in which money was needed for your parents. Because your parents rather than his were involved you felt sadness and concern, because such a move on your part, you felt, would be unfair.

[...] I let myself float along, knowing that if I held my breath I would rise to the surface. [...]

[...] Had your attitude been different the stimuli would have been so minimized that noise never would have bothered you. Literally, your environment would not have included it.

(Before the session, in line with our new way of thinking, Jane and I said that we could have six main categories in our lives: work; finances; living quarters; health; mobility; spiritual contentment, which would include helping others. The idea being that positive thought within these broad outlines would pay rich dividends.)

In your particular circumstances it was understandable that a while would elapse before you would put these truths to work for you in physical terms. [...]

[...] If you persisted upon focusing on noise rather than quiet however, you would find no quiet regardless of the circumstances. It would obviously be ridiculous to settle in the middle of a city like New York if you valued quiet above all things, so common sense operates. [...]

[...] He would indeed meet a large range of reactions. Scorn would be the least of them. He would meet honor, belief, respect, disbelief, anger, love—and some scorn. Such a career addition would be bound to change, of course, the foundations of your lives. [...]

Under certain conditions, I would certainly appear on television, for I have done so. [...]

(9:57.) That kind of activity would automatically and naturally stimulate him to further walking. He gets upset and irritated with the chair, because now he is getting around the house more, and realizes that walking would be the natural way to do so—where before he was content to be in one place.

[...] These ideas, accepted, work automatically, though some time in Framework 1 would be involved necessarily; but the releasing ease and the gradual overall improvement would be quite perceivable.

[...] The pillow pounding was simply meant to allow physical expression that would vary on different days, and would open the body to the idea of the normal exertion of such energy. [...]

(As he stated in the 68th and 170th sessions, Seth said that should he materialize in full view in the middle of the room it would not be considered as evidence by those who did not wish to believe it possible; they would ascribe it to mass hallucination, etc. [...]

[...] I would say subjectively that they were probably second best however. [...] In the 170th she also spoke for several hours and had time to build up to it; I would estimate she spoke for less than half an hour before break this evening, and but a very few minutes after resuming.

(Nor according to Seth would the voice effects be accepted as any kind of evidence, until certain measuring instruments were used in a scientifically-controlled experiment. [...]

[...] Later he felt that she would either commit suicide or kill them both while he slept, and he feared the night. [...] In the deepest trouble he doubted your feeling for him also, and in exaggerated panic felt that you would feel released if he died, as he felt that he would feel released as an adolescent if his mother died. Now if you had all been really paying attention to what I have said for some time about the simultaneous nature of time and existence, then you would have known that the theory of evolution is as beautiful as a tale as the theory of Biblical creation. [...] No—no form of matter, however potent, will be self-evolved into consciousness no matter what other bits of matter are added to it, but without the consciousness, the matter would not be there in the universe floating around waiting for another component to give it reality, consciousness, existence or song. She would have used you as a buffer between herself and another male, and as a bargaining point. [...] She would have exaggerated the slightest interest you showed in her, and an unpleasant situation would have resulted; an unfortunate one involving yourself and the other male to whom I referred. (Before the session Jane and I asked John if he would cooperate in some telepathic/clairvoyant experiments like those involving the Gallaghers recently. John would make a good subject, we thought, because he lives some distance away and Seth could tune in practically whenever he pleased.

I told you that you would have other telepathic or clairvoyant experiences. I did not say however that you would be able to read tomorrow’s headlines today, so you need have no such fears. [...]

(This thought comes to me: Quite a few sessions ago Seth remarked that an event would occur which would bind John, Jane and I together. [...]

(I would estimate that a good hour was taken up by the above proceedings. [...] Often Seth remarked upon our rather childish desire for demonstrations; yet when I asked him if he would rather we refrained from such requests in the future, he said he understood the desire, that it was natural, and that if he felt like it he would comply.

[...] I wanted to see if the questions would help Jane establish contact with another entity or a fragment. [...] Still it appeared that we would get no results.

[...] Now, it would have been easy enough for Jane to bend her own fingers up into this position. [...] Had they been Jane’s own fingers, the nails would have been on the undersides, and invisible.)
