[...] There are several fields in which you would do well—and acting is one where you would speak as well as write the words, you see. (Pause.) You may be appalled, but you would do well as a salesman, connected with public relations and business; that is, some of your abilities would serve you well in these fields.

Your salesman’s ability would allow you to convince publishers to buy such material. Your understanding of the subject matter would help you deal with those involved in psychic phenomena, and your humor would protect you from them.

In two other lives there was instead the development of inner abilities to the exclusion of others, a closing down of the windows and a barring of the doors, and he would not look out and no one dared look in. He would make horrible funny faces at the window of his soul to frighten others away, and yet through all of this the inner abilities did indeed grow. [...]

In this case however certain temperamental tendencies would serve to unite you. She would have a highhanded manner, but this again according to the probabilities.

[...] You also possess what is often called the subconscious, and this merely consists of feelings, thoughts or experiences that are connected to your conscious mind, but would be considered excess baggage if you had to be aware of them all of the time. Otherwise they would vie for your attention, and interfere with the present decisions that are so important. [...]

If you tried to hold all of those subconscious memories uppermost in your mind all of the time, then you would literally be unable to think or act in the present moment at all. [...]

If you had to use that kind of process before you could move a muscle, you would get nowhere at all, of course. [...]

[...] You might well wonder why the body consciousness does not simply rise up and cast off any threatening diseases: why would the body allow certain cells to go berserk, or outgrow themselves? [...]

[...] You would frighten the ghosts away with your own fear. If you had to go through all that they had to go through to contact a beloved daughter, how would you feel if you were met with fear and terror? [...]

Now, I would not have any husband standing around for his wife because of me. I wish you all, therefore, a hearty good evening, and remember that the dead have a vitality that would put you to shame and allow your own parents to smile when they visit you. [...]

[...] You have given them a foundation and a history and an identity as a framework, but from this framework they will grow and learn and develop and without your creation of them they would not exist. Would you, therefore, deny them reality in order to deny them pain? [...]

[...] If the leaf were not vulnerable to the sun, it would not bloom. If it were not vulnerable to the winter and cold temperature, it would not die, and if it did not die, it could not, again, come back into the earth as a new blossom. [...]

Had the man seen Ruburt’s mouth two years ago he would have been outraged, and told Ruburt he would not have a tooth left in his head by now. And Ruburt most likely would have reacted to the suggestion.

There are in fact infinite varieties of matter, existing in what you would call (underlined) one space framework. [...]

[...] The physical brain is cushioned against shock because in this case consciousness travels at such a fast pace that ordinarily contact between it and the body would be severed.

[...] During break I told Jane I had a couple of questions for Seth, but would wait to ask them until he said all right. [...]

The same sort of thing used to apply in a different way, but does no longer, when Ruburt would see you frown, for example, and would then ignore an obvious cheerful mood on your part, still interpreting your behavior in the light of the frown.

[...] You could, therefore, make several different kinds of decisions that would give you a free mind for large portions of the time. You would not be rejecting guests at the door, per se, but telling them to return at such and such an hour, or to leave a note. [...]

[...] That would not mean, for example, that Ruburt was not using his abilities. As far as impulses are concerned, most likely Ruburt could have three or four excellent sessions a week at certain periods in your lives, and there would be periods of vacation also. [...]

These were interruptions, and because of your attitudes you thought of them as troublesome interruptions: surely you would have sailed through your work otherwise, or performed chores that you wanted to accomplish; and so because you still do not really understand the effectiveness of Framework 2, those visits added to your sense of concern and hassles with time. [...]

If you were as knowledgeable and crafty when you were awake, then you would put all religions and sciences out of business, for you would understand the greater reality of your psyche. You would know “where the action is.”

[...] No theme would be apparent. [...] If all of this was transposed over the program that you expected, you would indeed think that nothing made any sense.

[...] If you were that “dumb” in the waking state, then you would be in far better health.

Each character, however, or portion of a scene, would represent in fragmented form another quite valid program [or reality, in brackets]. [...]

(Part of the creed involved Jane’s listing what bothered her—indeed, it would end up covering all essential points in our lives, and I hoped would act as a guide and reminder. I was now beginning to feel that none of us were all powerful, and would have to live within whatever limits and capabilities we could handle. [...]

[...] I became angry and half disgusted, and began to realize that I would probably have to abandon the painting, since I wasn’t resolving the problems. I was afraid that once the symptoms persisted for another day or so, I would have a cold or some such thing to handle, and that days could be spent clearing it up. [...]

(The pendulum told me that I was bothered by the idea of the possible lack of permanency of the panel I had chosen, and briefly that I was somewhat aware of the change in this picture, as far as handling of form would be concerned, from my usual style of working. [...]

(Elements of the creed would consider whether she should have these sessions, whether they should be public or merely private, whether they should be published now or later, or never, etc. [...]

All of the available data coming into the organism would be sifted, weighed and valued in a precise search for the material that would give physical emphasis to those beliefs. Information or events running counter would be ignored to a large degree, or distorted in such a fashion that they would be made to fit in with what the mind said was reality.

She had wanted to leave her job for another one but was afraid of taking the step, so she created circumstances in which the decision was seemingly taken out of her hands; it would appear as if she were the victim of unfeeling co-workers, jealous and misunderstanding, and a boss who would not stand up for her.

[...] The body would then cease reacting to such stress, and almost immediately the exterior situation itself would be altered.

[...] I would like to use this instance as an excellent example of the ways in which conscious beliefs affect your feelings and behavior.

[...] Literal minds, looking for evidential proof, would insist that the physical body itself must rise, ascending, hence the related stories, the misinterpretation of data. [...] Christ well knew that that statement was indeed true, but men who condemned themselves, who considered themselves sinners, would not know what to ask for, except punishment to relieve their guilt. The words “Let thy will be done,” represented excellent psychological understanding, for according to Christ’s teachings as originally given, God the father represented the source or parent of the self, who was by nature free from the self’s ignorance or lack of understanding at any given time, and who would know better than the known self those experiences that would fulfill the self’s hopes, dreams, and potentials.

[...] He would through the years begin to approve of spontaneity in one more area—spontaneity in class, for example—or with Sumari poetry, or in finally approving his own psychic writings. The disapproval was still present, however; yet now and then through the years would come a period of release, of sudden ease and sudden physical improvement—each time when he suspended self-disapproval, and when for your reasons you began to suspend your own.

[...] Seth hasn’t mentioned India before in connection with any of the three, so that information would be new. It would be interesting to get more data on the whole Christ question. [...]

Following our analogy, in the dream world the shadow of the oak tree, once cast, would then be free to pursue its own direction. Not only that, but there would be a creative give-and-take between it and the tree that gave it birth. Anyone fully accustomed to inner reality would have no difficulty in telling the dream oak tree from its frisky shadow, however (humorously), any more than awaking photographer would have trouble distinguishing the physical oak tree from its counterpart upon the grass.

[...] You might utilize them in the background, but as a photographer you would not confuse the shadows with, say, the solid objects. No one would deny that shadows are real, however.

If you remembered such a dream, therefore, you might think that it was precognitive, and that the event would become physical. Instead, the whole portent of the dream event would be an educational one, bringing your fear into clear focus. [...]

There were two worlds to him instead of one, and he would not apply his intuitions to physical life directly. [...]

[...] Several hours devoted on occasion to intimate relationships of sexual nature would be advantageous, simply because of the implied suggestion that you were not only willing but anxious to devote yourself to her. The energy that you have could be focused momentarily into a physical acknowledgment that would have strong psychic overtones for both of you. The physical relationship then would indeed open psychic channels, where understanding becomes intuitional. This would be to both of your benefits, and she would understand what you so poorly put into words.

Also she loves Philip, and would not consciously want to dominate him if she could. [...]

With the girl’s background it is natural enough that an independent male would both frighten and fascinate her. [...]

The trivial conversations which you were all discussing would be helpful here, as reassurance. [...]

Now obviously the unthinking suggestion alone is not responsible, or would not be responsible, for such circumstances. They would have to fall upon fertile ground; and given great enough emotional and subconscious fear an individual would need no outside suggestion. [...]

[...] But you see here what under other circumstances could have been the final straw, so to speak, the word of authority that would say “Your fears are justified.” In such an instance and under certain conditions such an individual would have his deepest dreads, therefore, fastened upon him.

He would be convinced so of the diagnosis, that a disease that he might have escaped would be brought to physical manifestation. [...]

[...] Emanations from this field continue, traveling further, projecting energy that is transformed as you know into matter; and in a simplified version of your universe perceived in terms of such force fields, you would have seemingly endless atoms and molecules spinning about the nucleus, or an endless variety of such patterns that would appear on first appraisal random to an observer from another field.

When the two of you could work together, he thought, all that would change. You would have time to work and play. You would be more emotionally demonstrative, freed from your job. His work would bear more and more the burden of his needs, and take up the emotional slack that was now apparent. [...]

[...] Usually he would think of how slow and clumsy he was, and if you were waiting or watching how impatient you might be. That day, he thought “After Rob seeing how I really am in the morning—if he saw me now he would see how much better I am,” and he felt proud of doing what he was doing as well as he could.

Since he felt that you judged his physical behavior from that “superior” position, then he felt that no improvement except complete recovery would get your approval. Anything else would always fall short.

(Now in an aside Seth told me there were many “strings” to the material; that it seemed to come “sideways,” but that it would all come together.)

In any way, through the publication, and whether or not such a manuscript would allow us to do so in any more efficient way than we will anyway, is another point. [...] It would take some time, and also it would require that I clear the issue myself with several people of my own acquaintanceship.

This would be a combined activity. It would take far too much effort on my part, for example, away from other endeavors to do that particular thing alone. I would oversee it.

In this case, you would have received the information now or later; it was yours, you would receive it. [...]

[...] In much earlier times, they would be a royal guild, in that they are the richest, the most expansive. [...] It is impossible to speak to you in terms of membership, however, for the idea of individuality is not clear with you yet, and you would think in terms of how many individuals.

[...] You would be dealing with the personal subconscious, and there is a tremendous difference. The subconscious for example would speak, and the ego would then allow this direct contact. [...]

For years, literally, it was hammered into Ruburt’s subconscious that he was not worthy of any kind of success, and that he would be punished for his treatment of his mother.

[...] In the past he would have tried to ignore them. [...]

[...] For the present this would avoid some difficulties.

[...] What you would call time is manipulated as an artist would manipulate pigment. What you would call space is gathered together in different ways.

Such a work would be perceived in your system as one thing, for example, but would also be perceived in probable realities, though perhaps in an entirely different way — a multidimensional art, you see, so free and elemental that it would appear simultaneously in many realities.

There are some points I would like to add here. [...]

[...] A teacher would simultaneously be in contact with these various personalities, communicating with them in terms that they could understand. [...]

[...] He identified the short man who would be out as Jim Brady. [...] He said it was likely he would remain in this area of the country, that is, the northeast. Freewheeling basis would pertain to John’s interpretation, he said, of the changed mode of operation by which the pharmaceutical industry attempts to sell its products and its image.

[...] You may be expected to move now, but waiting for the further changes would serve your interests more. A paper is being drawn up, and I would suggest you hold out.

[...] He would give you as a gift. He would give you to others as a gift in order to gain advantages for himself, and in order to gain your loyalty and obligation.

[...] However John gave Jane no details before the session, merely stating that he would like to know what was happening.)

He would be a famous writer, on his own terms, (underlined) or he would not accept life joyfully. He would limit the ways in which life expressed itself through him, or at times he felt he would not operate at all. He would be a novelist and a poet, as the conditions of his happy existence, of his joyful existence, or he would not operate naturally.

He would attempt to limit his abilities if they did not agree with his preconceived ideas. If he could not go his own way, he would not go, and so he slowed himself down.

[...] Jane read the four questions over—the formulae were meaningless to her—before the session, but we doubted if Seth would have time to deal with Pat’s letter and the questions in one session.

[...] There is a cultural aspect here that you do not realize, and that you would consider beneath you.

Now, I bid you a fond good evening—and if you will really remember what I say, and take it to heart, then your chest would not bother you when you exert yourself or worry; and if you would remind yourself during your naptime that the vitality of the universe is indeed surging through your body as you sleep, then you would rid yourself of that annoying difficulty.

He is beyond the point, however, of unpredictability, as when he could not tell when the right leg would hold or not in any position. The results of the dream that I told you would occur, have, in the awakening, so to speak, of the left side of the body relatively—that is, that side was more reluctant before.
