(Below is a copy of the question-and-answer session I held with myself and the pendulum on the afternoon of June 12, 1967, today, in an effort to see what subconscious knowledge I might have that would benefit Jane.

If you had read more of the material and if you had studied the information more carefully on action and identity, then you would know what I mean. [...]

[...] I make no attempt to dominate Ruburt’s private life nor, indeed would I expect him to allow it. [...]

[...] Then thought, nearly crying: I cut down desire—like loving to shop, and am afraid now to mix with people—then said Rob would help me there—in decent walking shape surely my attitude would be entirely different—so different it’s hard for me to imagine then to the importance that I make distinctions between the natural world; and the social or cultural one. [...]

I have not forgotten that I told you I would give you a test. [...]

[...] And we would appreciate further cooperation this time. [...]

(I didn’t think anything immediate would develop, I told her, nor did I expect the session tonight would be on me. [...]

[...] Yet once the sessions began you continued them, wondering often whether or not you should have—I am speaking of you jointly—not realizing that you had found the vehicle that would coax your best from both of you.

[...] Had I begun writing books, Ruburt would have been appalled, thinking that I was invading his province. [...]

(In the 586th session, earlier in this chapter, Seth stated that by the year 2075 the third Christ — Paul or Saul — would have enacted the Second Coming, exerting of course a profound effect upon religion and world history. [...]

(When, for instance, would the personality be born, in order to have time to bring about such tremendous changes? [...]

[...] John was already active in his own ministry, and often called himself a “forerunner of one who would be nobler and stronger.” [...]

[...] It was unavoidable in many cases, but Jane said she much preferred not to know anything about the historical period Seth would be discussing. [...]

[...] “How about going back to the book?” I thought doing that would help her control the proliferation of channels until we could learn more about the development. [...] The new step in her abilities would be her conscious awareness of the blocks of material already prepared and awaiting delivery. [...]

[...] I would like to make one point here, however — that often psychoanalysis is simply a game of hide-and-seek, in which you continue to relinquish responsibility for your actions and reality and assign the basic cause to some area of the psyche, hidden in a dark forest of the past. [...]

[...] One would do as well as another.

[...] Some of the probable systems arising out of such activity would be quite alien to us: “One such fluctuation might take several thousand of your years … [which] would be experienced, say, as a second of your time …” Jane elaborates upon related ideas from her own viewpoint in Chapter 10, among others, in her Adventures in Consciousness.

It is not so much a matter of Ruburt’s vocabulary, incidentally, since even a specialized scientific one would only present these ideas in its own distorted fashion. [...]

(10:00.) Such endless creativity can seem so dazzling that the individual would appear lost within it,² yet consciousness forms its own organizations and psychic interactions at all levels. [...]

[...] Give us a moment … In no way could you predict what would happen to the child in that photograph of yourself.⁶ In no way now can you “predict” what will happen to you now. [...]

First of all, in your own world those travelers into unknown realms were considered outcasts, so to speak, as if they were picking up television programs that no one else saw.⁸ If their stories of their experiences did not jibe, who would believe them? [...] The object was presented flat or opened up in the envelope, so also visible at a glance would be more than five lines—eight to be exact exclusive of the name on the caricature. [...]

Those of you who would change your world, then I tell you, listen: for if you would change your world you must listen to the voice within yourself. [...]

So if you did not give it as freely as you thought you should to Ruburt, then you would also keep it to the same degree (underlined) out of your work. [...] You would be led to question why you were not pleased with your work as you thought you should be, and hence back to the original problem.

(Pause at 4:40.) Offspring do not occur until the individuals are well past the age that you would consider normal for breeding. [...] As offspring are added, the groups break up again, for they know well that in larger numbers they would be much more easy to discover.

[...] But I thought it would be maybe a few lines — I didn’t expect that much.” [...]

(Ray Van Over described in some detail certain experiments he was organizing in which astral travel would be predominant. He also asked Jane if she would be willing to participate in tests, and she said yes. [...]

(After reading these notes Jane reminded me that during the session Seth also told R. Van Over that one of the sponsors or members of his new research society would pull out—that this person was somewhat of a disrupting influence, etc. [...]

[...] About a foot of snow had fallen, but this rather small amount still made things difficult for automobiles, and the area involved would mean hours of shoveling by hand.

[...] Perhaps she would receive and pass on to her husband any visitations from the dead father.

I believe his mail is late because of the storm, and that he will receive a letter from the Midwest, later than he would have ordinarily. [...]

[...] Her eyes had opened occasionally. She said she had been looking forward to the envelope experiment tonight, hoping I would give her one; she had given herself suggestions concerning it this afternoon.

[...] I thought this would have an extra emotional content, as did the symbol I used in the first test. [...]

I would like to add a few notes here. [...]

[...] I sense color, perhaps orange, yellow; but I get the impression of something sunny, as an orange-yellow color would be. [...]

[...] With the figure painted out of the photo the rocks would easily resemble any number of aerial shots of denuded mountain ranges, or hills, depending on scale.

[...] A psychological force who wanted me to understand the danger of such a course, and when I went back to sleep somehow the entire thing would happen again.... [...]

[...] And I suppose that if someone persisted long enough, he or she would find the holes in the stories.... [...]
