[...] Part of your artistic impetus does come from this inhibited emotion, but fresh impetus is received when the emotion is allowed to go outward toward Ruburt; and through Ruburt, acting as a symbol to you, to the world at large.

In other words the repressed emotionalism will only carry you so far before you need to be refreshed in Ruburt’s reality; and through approaching his reality you also gain, in a different manner than you usually know it, refreshment from the natural world.

[...] He is more emotionally attuned than you, in that it is easier for him, when coming out of his private world, to rush toward you with spontaneity. [...]

[...] When I remarked that I tried not to worry about such things anymore, she replied that she too had better get back to book work and forget the world’s troubles: “Come on, Seth, I’m here.” [...]

[...] The world’s view was a religious one, specified by the church, and its word was truth and fact at the same time.

Some other civilizations have believed that illness was sent by demons or evil spirits, and that the world was full of good and bad spirits, invisible, intermixed with the elements of nature itself, and that man had to walk a careful line lest he upset the more dangerous or mischievous of those entities. “I don’t remember much of that,” Jane said, “but I’ve got the feeling that Seth meant the material to defuse some of my own thoughts lately—that there isn’t any answer for all of the pain and suffering in the world—that the whole thing is so vast that you can’t say or do anything that will be of much use to anyone….”

[...] There are many dimensions that are as physical, so to speak, as your own world—but if you are not focused in them you would not at all be aware of their existence, but perceive only empty space. [...]

The person then becomes frightened of pitting himself against the world, or committing himself to ordinary actions, since he feels that in the light of such comparisons he can only debase himself.

Jane doesn’t often refer to such world events in her notes and journals, but we often talk about them. [...]

In the same manner, you create your physical image and your world. If anything in that physical image or world needs changing, the change must first be made in the atmosphere of the inner self.
