The beneficial or detrimental effect of the emergence of secondary personalities must and may be judged by its effect for good or bad on the dominant personality, for in your existence the dominant personality is necessary and must be maintained in an authoritative position, to deal with the physical world.

Such secondary personalities in many cases will often mask themselves by adopting for a while moral postures in keeping with those of the dominant personality; but these will be soon discarded as the secondary personality further insinuates itself.

Since this period was to some degree at least free of camouflage, from it communication can be received dealing with the entity’s knowledge of itself, and of uncamouflaged reality. [...]

[...] It was the outlet of creative writing, early adopted, that saved him from becoming a most rigid and frozen personality; and if he had adopted such a stonelike ego, then indeed he would now be in dangerous circumstances, since his strong creative nature would finally and disastrously have shattered the stone image.

(With a smile:) My personality, as it so richly presents itself, is (louder) to some extent a joint creation of the two of you. This does not mean that I do not have my own reality, for I do, but in my relationship with you and Ruburt, and with your world, I do take certain characteristics that come from each of your realities.

In certain terms, and in certain terms only, and speaking now as the psychological bridge personality, then what you perceive in me and these abilities represents a portion of Ruburt that is utterly free in those directions — a portion of the human mind, as you understand it, goes beyond the threshold of itself into other dimensions of actuality; then, as best it can, it translates what it learns, sees, and experiences. It goes out of itself — it launches itself on paths that it does not understand, taking journeys that even Ruburt does not understand; and yet, that one portion of Ruburt’s human personality is that free. I have told you that the ego is self-conscious action that attempts to set itself apart from action and to consider action as an object. Now this altered ego retains its highly specialized self-consciousness, and yet it can now experience itself as an identity within and as a part of action.

[...] Both of you decided that you would have no children, not only because this fit in with the first goal, but because the energy connected with family life would go into your creative productions, would be saved and available when you began to embark upon the psychic work for which you had also planned.

This in itself has led you away from stereotyped portraits, and you could have fallen into that trap with your background in comics. [...]

Consciousness connected with the flesh, then, has great leeway spiritually and biologically, and can focus itself in many ways with and through the flesh, beside your own particular orientation. There have been highly sophisticated, developed civilizations that would not be apparent to you because the main orientation was mental or psychic, while the physical race itself would seem to be highly undeveloped.

Strange but inevitable, I think, how the conscious mind, developing such disciplines as biofeedback and astronomy (to use the examples considered here), finds itself led back to its own inner sources.

Physicists began talking about the spin of electrons in 1925; shortly afterward they began to consider the spin of the components of the nucleus itself. [...]

[...] In the material I have on file on electron spin itself, though, I haven’t found any discussion of Seth’s ideas of: (a) a reversed electron spin and a consequent time reversal, or (b) electrons spinning in many directions at once (even if we could grasp such a situation). [...]

Seth uses the term “value fulfillment,” as in the title of this book, to imply life’s greater values and characteristics—that is, we are alive not only to continue, to insure life’s existence, but to add to the very quality of life itself.

When we hesitate, hold back, falter, when we hold back energy in the hopes of saving it, when we allow fear rather than trust to guide our activities, when the quality of our lives becomes less than we know it should be—then warnings flash. [...]

[...] And as I was to see, even for all of the pessimistic suggestions of medical science itself, in the very middle of crisis there was a certain indisputable sense of cooperation—a “vulgar” physical optimism, and a kind of humor that I had long forgotten existed.

The term in itself is not only archaic and superstitious but absolutely detrimental to furthering knowledge of psychic phenomena, as it is called, usually.

If and when the time presents itself I will attempt to clear any distortions, though I do not consider this a necessity. [...]

“I accept everything in the book, but I think I felt that if I was going to tell it like it was—and I was, was determined to—then I also needed more protection from the world, and began cutting down mobility again. [...] The long breaks when Seth didn’t dictate [book work] may have come when I got particularly concerned about the material, the wisdom of presenting it to the world.

[...] Artistic expression itself was considered highly suspect if it traveled outside of the accepted precepts, and particularly of course if it led others to take action against those precepts. To some extent the same type of policy is still reflected in your current societies, though science or the state itself may serve instead of the church as the voice of authority.
