“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

During all of this time, we told no one in the hospital what we were specifically doing — staff accepted our conventional explanation that we were writers and “just working.” It all worked very well, even when we were often interrupted, as the sessions show.

[...] My wife’s life and work show that we can even create challenges and goals before birth, then in physical life plunge into fulfilling those qualities as we don flesh and clothing and beliefs. [...]

[...] For weeks after her admittance in April, I didn’t know if Jane would ever do any “psychic” work again, but three months later she surprised me by beginning a series of dialogues similar to the “world-view” material she’d produced for her books on the psychologist and philosopher William James, and the artist Paul Cézanne. Inevitably, however, much had to be omitted from The Way Toward Health as it’s presented here — not Seth’s material, but from Jane’s and my work and notes. [...]

(Anyhow, as I’ve explained to Jane lately, the method seems to be working fairly well, and I expect more success with it once I become accustomed to dealing with it. [...] It appears to be working well. It’s an amazingly simple luxury to consider a problem or challenge, then say the hell with it and throw it into Framework 2. It is, of course, reminiscent of our behavior right after we first learned about the frameworks, and as I remember it worked very well. [...]

His creative spontaneous self created the body to begin with, and all of its physical desires were precisely those that his creative abilities needed—a quickness of body and mind working together, a quick perception mentally and physically, a natural exhilaration that is supported by (underlined) the power, of his own nature.

[...] He is still afraid that his impulses will lead him away from “work” —where instead they provide the greater context from which the greater existence springs. [...]

[...] “I had no idea he was going to do that,”” Jane said, meaning work on the new book. [...]

Such work does not only necessitate the choosing of one individual, but is also an endeavor in which many other elements are taken into consideration. It was known, for example, that Ruburt would need your support, as it was also known that the work itself would help your own creative abilities.

(Except for ESP class, Jane rested from psychic work last week.)

I would not have spoken in this way, for this work requires a certain specific rapport, and definite characteristics on the part of the personality involved. [...]

(To me): Now you early foresaw your part in these sessions, and our work. [...]

Before the day begins with work Ruburt should take a few moments, as he has done in periods of improvement, to dedicate himself to a creative and expressive day. [...]

[...] I suggest that the session be placed in front of his old journal notebook, and that the list of material written by you also be read by him every day before work. [...]

[...] I trust that I’m offering enough intriguing hints in this essay to keep readers interested in pursuing Jane’s and Seth’s and my loving work. [...] (And the members of that group had to be back in the city to go to work the next day! [...]

[...] It wasn’t until after Jane’s death in 1984 that I took the “time” to understand that Jane’s Seth material—her great passionate body of work—really didn’t need to be categorized as public or private—that all of it was simply one multifaceted creative entity.

For some years Jane and I devoted much work to learning the processes detailed in all of those early unpublished sessions, which were followed by her series of published books like The Seth Material, Seth Speaks, The Nature of Personal Reality, and so on. [...]

[...] A part of you, however, does strongly resent the material benefits that you did derive from your early commercial work. There is a bitterness picked up from your family, working here. [...]

[...] This also means of course that the author does not realize much that must go on underneath before his suggested techniques will work.

[...] In secret parts of yourself this does cause some considerable bitterness that works to your disadvantage. [...]

[...] The outflow of energy, the freeing of energy, into your work, automatically is determined by a general outflow of energy through all facets of your personality, that will automatically bring many different kinds of benefits, including financial ones.

[...] This same spirit should be used in approaching our work, and in his general living pattern.

[...] The same qualities and spirit that you bring to your work should be extended to your life pattern, for they are correct for you both, and you operate at prime efficiency then.

[...] As Ruburt thrusts ahead, trusting his ability in his poetry, so he should in his psychic work, and now in vigorous physical activity. [...]

Another note: if you truly hold in your minds the sense of your combined powers for but a few moments a day, you can work miracles. [...] Your own work is bound up with it here also. [...]

[...] He was afraid of using his own power completely for that reason; and then he became afraid that it would not work if he did.

[...] Nor have you really, with feeling, except for certain times, allowed yourselves to clearly work jointly and together to clear those effects—with faith in your abilities to do so.

The workings of consciousness, however, may seem mysterious to you both, but the decision to continue the book means that Ruburt is ready to accept the power of his being, this will indeed materialize with his health. [...]

(Recently we have been moving all of Jane’s old poetry, novel, short-story, psychic, and other manuscripts and notes, dating back to her grade-school work, out of the upstairs storeroom into our roomy front-room closet. In the process she has come to read over a lot of her earlier work, with eye-opening insights, etc.)

[...] Your work as an artist will be well-known. [...]

[...] He will be free, you see, to work in fiction, and will do so in the future, because fiction will be something different than it was.

(Here Seth refers to a painting I began yesterday, in line with approach two of the suggestions he gave me in the last, 456th session, I am following his suggestions and they are working well.)

To reach today’s authorities you must make too many concessions, and that is true of anyone who hopes to produce great work in any area. [...] They have inbuilt leanings, then, quite understandably if regrettably, that mitigate against their looking with clear eyes upon work that shows the gaps in their own understanding or systems.

Your pendulum work continues to be a help, because it keeps such issues before your eyes. Ruburt should read our last session particularly, once or twice a week, for it will reinforce your pendulum work.

[...] We’ve had a succession of visitors, all but one of them unannounced, and have lost work time as a result. [...]

[...] They try to pass on the ideas to parents or children, and to interpret them through home life, and through areas of work and community. [...]

Many of the most powerful aspects of consciousness are at work precisely when it seems to you that you are relatively unconscious and asleep to physical reality. [...]

Latently, your consciousness is capable of performing these feats, but the work cannot be done with the part of your consciousness that is strongly attached to the space-time relationship. [...]

(Deliberately at 10:42:) When you are working with your beliefs, find out what you really think about the dream condition, for if you trust it it can become an even more important ally because of your conscious cooperation.

You use the excuse of work, both of you, to isolate yourselves from other people while you did crossword puzzles, and little work. [...] You saw that when you did not rely on your work, you enjoyed few creature comforts. [...]

It can work or it can be disastrous, then. [...] There is no reason it cannot work, and well, with the proper attitudes. [...]

[...] His desire to forge ahead philosophically beyond any school or church also was involved, and his artistic endeavors—which bloom in my books, now, as well as in his own work.

[...] It is vital that you realize you are working with beliefs in your mind — that the real work is done there in the mind — and not look for immediate physical results.

In physical life, your conscious mind is largely dependent upon the workings of your physical brain. [...]

(I now described an effect that had started to bother me after the session had begun; it’s a good little example of the way beliefs can work. [...]

[...] You must remind yourselves that these methods work. Your creative work and all of the other elements of your lives show this, including your financial security. The fear that the methods will not work in any one regard inhibits the process—as if our young woman said “I am sure I will not meet the Buttses, although I want to.” [...]

Hal works more directly with the body. [...] It is as if you hand on challenges or questions to others, which they accept for their own reasons, and hence follow through for you in areas in which you might be highly interested, even though in some cases they might have been sidelines in your own work.

[...] I found myself trying out the concepts as I worked—and they worked. [...]

[...] After the program Prentice-Hall’s president told Rusty that listening to her had helped him better understand Jane’s own work. [...]

[...] The ideas in the books go out into the world, where they will be worked upon, worked with, in numberless fashions, in ways that you may never know. [...]

[...] I did mention one good point, I thought: If she must be involved with ideas of responsibility, then let her think that she has already fulfilled her responsibility to help others, through the work/books she’s already done. [...]

(I could add that yesterday and today especially the mail had embodied the extremes of response Jane often gets to her work—from the incoherent to the very complimentary, from people literally begging for relief from possession, say, to inquisitive, thoughtful letters from psychologists and other professional people. [...]

[...] Our work should end up to some extent illuminating many fields of knowledge and interest, because it is not directed to one or another subject matter, and certainly not restricted to information that must be immediately utilitarian. [...]

The annoying or frightening symptoms began when Ruburt began his search for work, unknown to him consciously. [...] In the past he did think of work as temporary. [...]

You understand that because of both his father and his grandfather, particularly his grandfather, he grew up believing it a weakness to work for others, because of the immobility involved. His grandfather as a salesman walked about freely, and his grandfather feared working for others. [...]

He is frightened because if this does not work he will have to face the other situation again. [...]

He did wait long before looking for work, and fought every step of the way, until he feared you would simply become furious. [...]

(I typed yesterday’s session this morning, and didn’t get to work on Dreams, “Evolution,” and Value Fulfillment until after 10:30. [...] It worked out well, but I lost time — and when I got to room 330 this afternoon, my legs were itching again. [...]

[...] It made us wonder about working in hospitals — it seemed everyone was sick at one time or another.

[...] I worked on some mail.

All portions of the self are indeed conscious, and they are also basically conscious of each other, though for working purposes they may seem to be separate or isolated.

[...] But you can work through them, and I’d really like all of you to do this. I’m sorry to say that Florence will not be able to come to class next week, so I suggest that we take Sue, instead of Ron or Florence, and all work on Sue this week. So that we can work on Florence in the time when she’ll be here the next week to report and know what’s going on. [...]

[...] is that I’m also sending stuff out to some of the regular members in class who are working hard and to whom I dont have time to speak in class. [...] I think, see, personally because of the way I work in conscious writing, that your own consciousness is such a fantastic, precious thing; and to close it in is... [...]

[...] Yet the day after my wife’s death I’d gone back to work, finishing Volume 2 of Dreams, “Evolution,” and Value Fulfillment. [...]

And as Jane survives, so does her work. [...]

Yet there can be even more to come out of the great bulk of Jane’s work. [...]

Over the years Jane’s and my work led to our receiving many thousands of letters, not only from this country but from abroad, too. [...]

The ideas he has been working with are good. [...] I tell you that the inner work is mental, and it need not be work—but if each of you believe he is beginning to attain normal flexibility, he will.
