I even agree that our challenges may well be successfully handled in one or more other probable realities, that in those terms that’s an entirely acceptable way for us to learn. Such a course, however, may leave us with something much less than the solution we want in this reality. [...]

[...] I took comfort in remembering her excellent vocal power when delivering the private session for December 3.¹² Her voice is a powerful and dramatic connective among realities for her, charged with energy and emotion whether she’s speaking for herself, for Seth, or speaking or singing in her trance language, Sumari.¹³ That vocal steadiness and power, coming out of someone whose weight hovers around 100 pounds, has always been most reassuring to us. We tried what Seth had suggested many times: After discussing her voice effects we gave Jane gentle suggestions that they could be greatly minimized, then turned our attention away from them. [...]

What do I mean by such attention? [...] Attention to the table of rich reality as it appears before you. [...]

[...] It is better, then, to use the approach because you recognize it for what it is than to use it specifically in order to get something that you want, however beneficial. [...] in the annals of our relationship was meant to lead you in one way or another to a place where the true nature of reality could at least be glimpsed. [...]

I was speaking specifically of what you would term an ancient Speaker’s manuscript, and I thought that was what you were referring to.

[...] Therefore I must remember what they think has already happened, or not yet occurred, for to me it is one. [...] I say for example that I am aware of their past and future actions and thoughts; and yet what I am aware of, actually, are ever-shifting and changing patterns, both in the future and in the past.

The greatest Speakers do not only translate and communicate inner data, but also go much further into these inner realms of reality than others connected with your physical system. [...]

M-A-U-B-U-N-D-U, in Africa, 14 B.C. The Speakers, more than most, are highly active through all aspects of existence, whether physical or nonphysical, waking or sleeping, between lives or at other levels of reality. [...]

Autohypnosis then will be utilized in an effort to discover what experiences are common in various levels or trance states, and these shall be examined in a search for primary and secondary conditions. [...] There is no way to probe the realities of consciousness except that a personality travels through all levels of consciousness open to him, and do so in such a way that he can retain and apply the information that he receives in these inner travels.

You will learn to deal with primaries, while giving secondary realities their due. [...] I am sure you see what I mean.

The investigation will allow you to probe into the realities of conscious wakefulness, extending your sensual perceptions so that you can probe further outward into physical reality. [...]

The potentialities of human personality cannot be examined as one would crack open a nut to see what is inside. [...]

They serve to mask other quite valid realities that exist at the same time, however, and actually from these other realities you gain the power and the knowledge to operate the material projections. You can “set the machine on idle,” so to speak, stop the apparent motion, and turn your attention to these realities.

[...] Jane’s pace was quite slow.) If you want to know what death is like, then become aware of your own consciousness as it is divorced from physical activities. [...] With practice you will discover that your normal waking consciousness is highly limited, and that what you thought of once as death conditions seem much more like life conditions. [...]

[...] As a preliminary to the methods I will give later, it is a good idea to ask yourself now and then: “What am I actually conscious of at this time?” Do this when your eyes open, and again when they are closed.

[...] They are not deceived by the images that you project in three-dimensional reality. [...]

He was, in a fashion only, sexually ambiguous, his mathematics expressing what he thought of as an acceptable male aspect while the artistic levels in his mind, now, he related to his feminine aspects. [...] In conventional art you end up with a product on many such occasions—a book or painting or whatever—as you attempt to define in physical terms the reality of an inner existence with which you have always been familiar, and to leave in physical reality some evidence, however slight, of inner visions that flicker within all consciousness. [...] In some projections, you will also experience a concept, and, at first, you may not understand what is happening. In these, you experience as actual the innermost reality of a given concept.

So at least twice a week I lay down to experiment, my body on the couch or bed, the alarm clock set, my house in order, while I try to “get out” to see what I could find. [...] Yet for periods at a time, I just concentrate on the Seth sessions, with Seth on the one side of reality and Rob on the other — two good guardians. [...]

This in many instances will be distasteful to many, but all physical constructions are transformations of energy made manifest as idea, and then constructed into physical reality. Without the idea you have no physical reality, and without belief that our aims are possible, there will be no achievement. [...]

There religious interests, therefore, are repeated in the present personality, but efforts are made to tie these ideas into the world of so-called reality. [...]

[...] “And it’ll be on the book … I’m not used to being so relaxed beforehand, though …” What developed was a very short session, and contrary to her expectations, Seth devoted half of it to Jane herself. I had two questions prepared, both growing out of material in “Unknown” Reality, but had to lay them aside until next time.)

[...] ⁴ No system of reality is closed. [...] In the waking state the conscious mind must focus rather exclusively upon that one particular point of concentration that you call reality, simply so that it can direct your activities properly in temporal life. It is quite equipped, however, also to direct you to some extent in other levels of reality when it is not needed for specific survival duties.

Dictation: These blueprints for reality are relatively invisible because you have allowed yourselves to forget their existence.

[...] These can help you become aware again of those inner idealizations that form your private reality and your mass world. [...]

(On Wednesday, March 27, we received from Jane’s publisher the page proofs for Seth’s second book, The Nature of Personal Reality: A Seth Book.¹ No session was held that night. [...] Ordinarily Seth would have used those sessions to deliver work on “Unknown” Reality. [...] And we told ourselves that Seth was perfectly capable of resuming work on “Unknown” Reality whenever we were ready to do so, whether the time lapse involved one week or six months.

[...] “I have a pretty good idea of what was said,” she told me. “And just before the session, I knew what Seth would say about your dream experience. Not that I could tell you now what he did say — but still I contained that knowledge somehow …” She also knew that the dream event tied in with my question about the “unused” portions of the brain.

[...] The other “dream” experienced simultaneously was, instead, your muddled interpretation of vital experienced reality on the part of another portion of yourself, in another reality entirely; a dimensional bleed-through. [...]

[...] Neither Jane nor I remembered hearing of, or experiencing, what I’ll call double dreaming. [...]

[...] No matter what Jane and I do in our joint reality, this is so. [...] I call that feeling, that awareness, a pale indication of what Seth means with his theory of probable realities—for like probable personalities, the unspoken channels he has available are certainly real whether or not they’re actualized in our physical reality.

[...] And as soon as I realized she was going to continue the series for a while, I jokingly asked her what was going on: “What do you think you’re up to, hon? Are you doing a book within a book, or what?” My wife didn’t answer yes or no, but I could see that she was pleased, and that she was thinking about it. The title of the new book would be automatic: The Magical Approach to Reality: A Seth Book.

“I can envision Seth’s material expanding almost endlessly just on a day-to-day basis, as he deals with events in the lives of Jane and me—and this idea conveys nothing about news of his reactions to and interactions with events on various levels of his own reality, plus other realities he may be able to reach. In Chapter 8 of Dreams, when I asked Seth what he was going to do for the rest of the evening (in our terms), he replied: ‘I am going to refresh myself by diving into some new concepts, for there are new concepts for me also, of course, and I dive into them from many positions all the time as well.’ (See the conclusion of Session 916 for May 14, 1980.) Think of the questions one could ask him relative to just this one statement! [...]

[...] Right now, I just want to note that since she gave the last session for this book, the 919th on June 9, Jane has come through with a series of 15 private, or deleted, sessions—13 of them on what Seth calls “the magical approach to reality.”

[...] First of all, you must understand that no objective reality exists but that which is created by consciousness. [...] So my environment is a reality of existence created by myself and others like me, and it represents the manifestation of our development.

They are created by our mental patterns, [just] as your own physical reality is created in perfect replica of your inner desires and thoughts. [...] We realize that we form our own reality, and therefore we do so with considerable joy and creative abandon. [...]

[...] In other systems of reality, this particular Seth personality that I, the larger Seth identity adopt here, would not be understood.

All systems of reality are not physically oriented, you see, and some are entirely unacquainted with physical form. [...]

[...] You are, in your terms, in their reality while being “ahead” of them in terms of certain kinds of development. [...] You are not involved in a specific kind of emotional reality others are pursuing. Those realities are not beneath your own in any way. [...]

[...] To some extent he had the feeling that as long as you kept your mouth shut about what you believed, you were safe, and that idea drew great strength from your own similar belief. Think what you want but don’t make the mistake of telling the rest of the world. [...]

Now he has felt that if the “authority,” the people, do not like what he says, then they will not buy his books, and deny him that “welfare.” [...] Instead of the people giving him handouts as a child, where he had to be careful of what he did and said, he saw them as contributing to his welfare through buying his books, and if he went too far and offended them, they would stop.

[...] I am not telling you what to do. You can safely afford $30,000, with what I know of money that will come in, and with plenty to spare. [...]

[...] All portions of the body’s reality are versions in flesh of the soul’s reality, even as all segments of the exterior universe mirror an internal one. [...] Physical phenomena is only a portion of what nature is, and all realities are natural.

[...] While you are in this reality there is no division between the mental, the spiritual, and the physical. If you think there is, then you do not sufficiently understand the spirituality of the flesh or the physical reality of your thought.

[...] In what may seem to you to be an odd analogy I will compare your thoughts with viruses,¹ for they are alive, always present, responsive, and possess their own kind of mobility. [...]

[...] There are many casualties, but this is still a system that you have chosen, and your ideas still form your reality. [...]

To Ruburt that is taken for granted—for there he operates extraordinarily well, mixing and merging the realities of Frameworks 1 and 2. The practical results of course appear in Framework 1, while the real creativity takes place in Framework 2. Understand that I make these divisions for simplicity’s sake, for the realities are merged. [...]

[...] This is what can happen as far as Ruburt’s body is concerned: forget what you think the body can or cannot do. [...]

(At break tonight I’d explained to Jane that I still thought the 14th session contained some excellent material on Seth’s awareness of “something resembling time” to him—and that it was “still a reality of some kind” to him. I’m in the process of quoting passages from the 14th session, held in January, 1964, in Appendix 18, as I write it for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality.

Oftentimes he was not sure what his next book would be, but overall he never doubted there would be a next book. [...]

[...] In order to study the “unknown” reality, however, you must try to see what else your consciousness can do. [...]

[...] This is accomplished through what you might call a changing of frequencies or vibrations … In some ways, your dream world gives you a closer experience with basic inner reality than does your waking world, where the inner senses are so shielded from your awareness.”

(9:48.) Such a traveling consciousness may journey within physical reality, colon: While not relating to that system in the usual manner, it may still be allied with it. [...] On the other hand, an out-of-body consciousness may also enter other physically attuned realities: those operating “at different frequencies than your own.” [...]

Any discussion of the unknown reality must necessarily involve certain usually dismissed hypotheses about the characteristics of consciousness itself. [...] It becomes probable in your system but seeks its own “level,” and becomes actualized as it falls into place in another reality whose “coded sequence” fits its own. [...]

[...] The technical ability gives a poised point through which these realities can emerge. The technique that is yours and is excellent should be the point of departure that sends the spontaneous action into new reality, and not a rigid mold to contain it.

[...] You felt that your talent was giving you but a shaky foundation or basis within economic and social realities.

The attitude itself helps cause that reality, to which you then react. [...]

[...] Each painting has a spontaneous reality that you have often refused to acknowledge. [...]

[...] In the overall drama however it made little difference what was fact, in your terms, and what was not — for the greater reality transcends facts and creates them. [...]

[...] You may rail against what you think of as their stupid behavior, their bloodthirsty ways, and the inadequate and shortsighted methods that they use to solve their problems. All of this is based upon your idealized concept of what the race should be — your love for your fellow man, in other words. [...]

[...] It means acquiescing to your reality as a spirit in flesh. [...]

If you do so, then in the great flow and sweep of your eternal reality there will be an overall current of love and creativity that carries you. [...]

[...] Any “thing” in quotes so created entirely of fears, would be frightened, and particularly angry at its creator, and it could do nothing else but attack; in one way to protect what reality it had, for it knew Ruburt created it only to slay it if possible.

The words: “May peace be with you,” will get him through any difficulty in other layers of reality, for as he formed that image others also form images, and he could encounter them on occasion. To wish them peace will be to give them some comfort, for they do have a kind of reality. To fear them is to put yourself into their realm of reality, and then you are forced to fight on those terms, and there is no need for this.

[...] When you discover what they are, you will find a point of unity within yourself from which you can with some detachment, view your other systems of belief.

[...] This will allow you to give form, literally—in your terms at least—to the formless, or rather to realities whose inner forms are not usually fully perceived.

[...] Each of you, in your own ways and on the grounds that you chose, were dealing intimately with challenges as you tried to decipher the unknown reality and bring it into physical manifestation as best you could.
