[...] Having denied his impulses, believing them wrong, and having impeded his expression of his own power to affect others, he might, for example, “hear the voice of God.” That voice might tell him to commit any of a number of nefarious actions — to assassinate the enemies that stand in the way of his great ideal — and it might seem to him and to others that he has a natural impulse to kill, and indeed an inner decree from God to do so.

How can you trust your impulses when you read, for example, that a man commits a murder because he has a strong impulse to do so, or because the voice of God commanded it? [...]

But when I read the session, I thought of Rob sitting there, listening to what I thought of as criticism, while his wife paced the room “telling him off” in another voice and supposedly for another, invisible personality. [...]

Particularly when the voices or communications give orders to be obeyed, they represent powerful, otherwise repressed, images and desires, strong enough to form about themselves their own personifications. [...] Usually you are presented with, say, semi-personalities, or even with lesser versions (dash)—fragmentary expressions of impulses and desires that are dramatically presented only in snatches, heard by the person as a voice, or perceived as a presence.

(Pause.) Communications between various scattered portions of the self often appear, again, in such situations as automatic writing, speaking, the hearing of voices, or through what the person believes to be telepathic messages from others.

(Quite humorously, Seth’s voice burst out loud and strong, to rise above the roar and screech of a nearby car taking off at high rpm from a standing start. The voice then quieted at once as the car roared away.)

[...] Jane’s voice was very quiet.)

[...] Send it through space and time easily through the vehicle of my voice. Use my voice, therefore, as a vehicle upon which unending energy can rise and let that power then of vitality and life and strength enter the body and spirit and mind of the woman and fill her with the feeling of vital life and give her the knowledge of herself that she now so desperately requires. (Jane began dictation at 9:01 in a quiet voice, at a comfortable rate as far as my writing speed was concerned; her pacing was also moderate, and her eyes darkened as usual.)

(Now, for one sentence only, Jane’s voice deepened and boomed out.)

[...] Yet she did not hear Seth, or any other voice; as with the Thomas Voghler Ouija session, pages 186-7, the answers popped into her mind.

(Later, I heard an unidentified voice say from below the field of vision of my right eye, “George, Allan is quite concerned—” or words to that effect. [...]

[...] Jane’s voice had been somewhat stronger in her delivery. [...]

[...] Her voice became hoarse and dry. [...]

[...] Jane’s voice cleared easily, and she delivered his material easily and rapidly for the most part.)

[...] “I noticed that my voice cleared up as soon as I started the session.” [...]

(Jane added that “If I opened my mouth, I feel like my voice would really fly out real loud, as though I’ve got all this energy and don’t know what to do with it.” When the session began however she used her usual Seth voice and speed of delivery.)

[...] Jane left trance as usual, though she said she still had the feeling that the voice could really blare. [...]
