Now, I’ve said this before, you concentrate very nicely upon the similarities that exist in the phenomena of the physical world, and you ignore what is not similar of a large field of available data. [...]

([Jane:] “Yes, you’ve only done it at a pretty surface level. [...]

(Since Seth began these sessions on human sexuality, it seems that we’ve received even more inquiries about the subject through the mail than we did earlier. [...]

(The warmer weather now allows us to eat lunch at the picnic table we’ve installed in one half of our double garage. [...]

(Seth’s reference to “illustrated Seth material” stems from ideas I’ve mentioned to Jane recently. I’ve had them for some time, actually, and they involve either black-and-white or color illustrations for some of my own psychic adventures, perhaps to be used in a work like Through My Eyes. [...]

(All week we’ve been doing additional medical notes for the copy-edited manuscript of Mass Events. [...] We’ve even considered withdrawing Mass Events from publication, although Tam reassured Jane this morning that things would work out all right. [...]

“As I came out of the experience a few moments later I resolved to paint a small oil of it, as I’ve done following my three previous perceptions of the light of the universe this year — on February 9 and 10, and on June 16. [...]

(As we sat for tonight’s session, Jane said, “Well, Seth’s all ready and I’ve got the urge to get going. [...]

[...] “I’ve got a feeling,” she said, “that that’s the start of Chapter One.” [...]

[...] “I think I’ve got half of the title,” she said as soon as she was out of trance. [...]

(We’ve had a series of brilliant warm days this month, and the ground is bare of snow. [...]

(Jane’s psychic work has resulted in a steady, if modest, increase in mail, and gradually we’ve fallen far behind in answering it. [...]

(We’ve been especially interested in such material since Seth referred to the “deaths” of atoms and molecules in the 625th session in Chapter Five, but we haven’t asked for more detail because the subject matter is somewhat outside the scope of this book. [...]

At the same time you’ve felt a strong responsibility to perform publicly, to sell books, get your message across, let people see that—yes, the sessions do happen—there is no fraud involved. [...]

(This afternoon Jane called Tam Mossman, her editor at Prentice-Hall, and told him: “I’ve got my next book.” [...]

[...] I’ve tried to do the same thing, but I suddenly heard my own true tone, which I’m bound to follow … to go beyond the conventionalized postcards … I’m done, Bob.”

[...] When you strike your own true tone, you recognize it and you’ve got it made. [...]

[...] Also, that we’ve gotten out of touch with our own feelings about death, and are afraid of it. [...]

[...] It’s been over a week since I’ve worked on the book.)

[...] “I don’t know whether I should tell you this or not,” she said, “but for the last couple of days I’ve had the suspicion that he’s started another book. [...]

[...] I’ve managed to keep my mind off the whole situation for considerable periods, though occasionally the subject returns and I catch myself thinking about it. [...]

(Considering parallels, here’s another of the many “connections” that Jane and I have become aware of since we began our housing odyssey last year [already we’ve compiled a list of 30 similar relationships]: Three out of the four dwellings that in one way or another we’ve been seriously involved with possess driveways shared by next-door neighbors — Mr. Markle’s in Sayre; the apartment house we live in now; and the house in Elmira that we considered buying in 1964. [...]

[...] Here Seth touches upon several ramifications involving our house affairs that I’ve been saving to present all at once, if briefly. This note, then, will enlarge upon the fertile field of connections, or probabilities, that is enveloping Jane and me, the houses in Sayre and Elmira, the real estate agents we’ve been dealing with (the Johnsons and Debbie — who are not acquainted), and some other people.

(So far, Jane and I haven’t been able to find a home that we intuitively feel is the right one, although the place on Foster Avenue has intrigued us considerably since we first saw it on February 3. [Since then we’ve looked at many other houses.] Last Thursday afternoon [February 13], Jane was busy with her creative writing class so I went house hunting alone. [...]

[...] It’s a thought I’ve had often, but haven’t voiced. [...]

(I did dwell upon the fact that Seth—and Jane—have yet to go into the main question I’ve asked several times since she came home from the hospital: the current attitude and role of her sinful self. [...]

[...] This in turn reminded me of something I’ve often noticed—that she seems to have lost that vital sense of how to manipulate her own physical body in its own best interests. [...]

As I write this Introduction, I’ve already forgotten those many anonymous nights during which Seth, my trance personality, dictated this book. [...]

I say: “In our terms,” because the sessions themselves seem ever-present, despite all I’ve just said. [...]

[...] I’ve finished for publication Emir’s Education in the Proper Use of Magical Powers (the entire first chapter came in a dream), and The Further Education of Oversoul Seven. [...]

[...] that now I’ve forgotten because the stage looked somewhat like an altar, and she was saved from falling, and deposited on the stage, she stood in the center, wearing slacks and a blouse, arms out, waving at the people. [...]

(I added another thought—that often lately I’ve reminded myself that I’m 10 years older than she is; at 62 I’ve managed during the last decade to say “the hell with it” to a lot of things that I used to pay a lot of attention to when I was 52, Jane’s present age. [...]

[...] We’ve more or less decided to forgo the use of the drug temporarily because of those reactions, which aren’t serious but which leave her feeling somewhat disoriented, with a strange feeling in her stomach, and lower back discomfort.

[...] These are points we’ve discussed before, of course.

(Then Jane told me that the night nurse, Toni, whom I’ve yet to meet, tried to help her lay on her right side last night, for the first time since she’d broken the leg. [...]

[...] I’ve noticed that a new suggestion often takes several days to sink into my psyche, reach the proper portion, so I have confidence that this will happen this time, and that I’ll attain significant relief from the gas problem. [...]

[...] Naturally we’d been involved in a number of other projects at the same time, as I’ve indicated in my notes for Mass Events, yet for me especially the publication of the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality meant that we had arrived at a certain point in the development and presentation of the Seth material: In those books, through correlating them in a modest way with our previous works, I’d attempted to show the reader just what the three of us had managed to achieve before Seth led us into Psyche — and, as it developed, Mass Events.
