Many times I’ve had the idea that a good analogy here is furnished by Seth’s concept of the “moment point.” [...]

As in Volume 1, notes are presented at session break times as always, but I’ve indicated the points of origin of what would ordinarily be footnotes by using consecutive (superscription) numbers within the text of each session. Then, I’ve grouped the actual notes at the end of the individual sessions for quick consultation. [...]

We learned the methods
so long ago
that they’re unconscious,
and we’ve hypnotized ourselves
into believing
that we’re the audience,
so I wonder where we served
our apprenticeship.
Under what master magicians did we learn
to form reality
so smoothly that we forgot to tell ourselves
the secret?

[...] I’ve barely mentioned them in recent notes — just for sessions 696 and 698 — but Seth has had a good deal to say about them in current personal material.] Many of the dreams have been quite long and involved. [...]

“… to meet him personally, I’ve had to go to another level. [...]

[...] There was stuff I’ve also forgotten though that made me waken at once, furious; some connection between the two books, also whole bunches of feelings rise to my mind about the disclaimer being like a sign or statement that I’m a liar or that my work isn’t truthful or like, hell, the letter A for adulteress they used to pin on wicked women.... [...]

[...] I haven’t had any such feelings, since from the very beginning of our relationship I’ve always felt certain that in Jane I’d found the ideal mate—an achievement I’ve considered most fortunate, one I’d hardly dared dream I’d ever manage to do. [...] I’ve always been intensely proud of Jane’s abilities and achievements, and glad to participate in them to whatever degree. [...] No wonder I say to her that we’ve paid too high a price for our accomplishments. [...] That things haven’t worked out that way so far can’t but help have a profound effect upon my feelings, hers, and our relationship, which I’ve always taken absolutely as being as solid and enduring as the elements. [...]

[...] Since then I’ve packed full these notes for Session 931, in order to round out our personal, professional, and secular situations—yet, looking back, I wonder if I’ve properly put everything in perspective: There are other sessions I could have quoted instead of the ones chosen, other notes I could have written; there are other questions Jane and I could have asked, and, perhaps, other conclusions we could have drawn.

5. For that matter, I’ve often told my wife that it would be all right with me if she decided to give up the sessions entirely—for good—period. [...] More than once I’ve asked her if she keeps the sessions going just for me. [...]

[...] During this period Jane gave two regular nonbook sessions [on November 26, 1980, and on January 5, 1981], plus 48 private sessions, so we’ve been busy! [...]

[...] I’ve read now that over 170 of these settlements, some of them dating from Norman times, have been devastated by the great earthquake of November 23. [...] As I wrote in the closing notes for the 929th session, I’ve been reminded once again of my feelings reincarnationally concerning those towns and villages. [...]

[...] In recent days I’ve finally realized that she often doesn’t hear me speak in an average voice—especially so when she isn’t looking at me. [...]

[...] Another person says something I’ve forgotten to the idea that… the ocean water or sky, … were dangerous or maybe that it was lightening, but I dismiss this, stand in the bathtub and the water is great, hot and soapy. [...]

[...] I’ve forgotten some of it, and am not sure of some of the early sequence.

[...] You’ve also got to get off your ass. I’ve got to change the bandages on your [left] elbow, too. [...]

[...] I think that my appreciation of wildlife has grown considerably since we’ve encountered so much trouble physically in our own lives: the sheer ability to move with nature’s grace and skill has gradually become very important, and to me the animals express this quality perfectly: the ‘coons, the deer, the dogs, cats, rabbits, mice, chipmunks; the birds, and yes, even the insects....)

[...] With all of this activity, I’ve managed to get in just one-and-one-half hours of work on the preface for Dreams, during the last three days. [...]

[...] “It bothers me that here we’ve gone back to the sessions,” I said, “but we can’t get at all that great material I know is there....” [...]

[...] That it’s like an appendage, a psychic appendage that is highly beneficial that you build up and can use and so I’ve been trying to do this. [...]

(Student:) “I've got a couple of jobs lined up. [...]

[...] But at this time in these sessions we’ve got to get all the new data we can to help in our own hassles.

[...] As I finished cleaning up the planter I came up with another of the “insights” I’ve been getting since we started this series of private sessions on February 4, 1981; see my notes at the end of the session for February 11. [...]

[...] Once more, I know I’m on to something here, while agreeing in advance that I’ve expressed the insight in simplistic terms.”

(I should add, too, that this latest insight ties in well with the paragraph of Seth’s that I’ve copied from the deleted session for January 28, 1981, to add to my list of quotations from these recent private sessions: Seth discussed Jane’s fear of letting go —not because she is afraid of relaxing per se, but because she fears she will go too far. [...]

(As we waited for tonight’s session to begin I read to Jane a letter I’ve just written to a prominent biologist. [...] As far as I’ve been able to learn, no such transitional fossils have been found, like the discrete forms of reptiles and birds that have been discovered, so I decided to search out the next best thing: the visual representations as to what they must have looked like. [...]

[...] Following all the studying I had to do in order to produce that piece, I’ve become very cautious in considering the theory — after all, even the dictionaries still refer to it as the theory [my emphasis] of evolution! [...] If science wants to talk about the tree of life, of reptiles turning into birds, then we’ve certainly got the right to see all — or at least most — of the leaves on the tree, not just those at the tips of the branches.” [...]

[...] Since the first session on Seth’s book (the 679th) was held — and before we knew it was a book — I’ve been getting material on it in my sleep after each session. I’ve also done this on a few nights when sessions weren’t held. [...]

[...] Past motion and acts still go on, not recurring — it’s hard to explain — but those past actions are still exploring other probabilities, while our nervous structure focuses us in the one (physical) probable reality we’ve chosen. [...]

2. Seth mentioned a “correspondence” among my dreams, painting, and writing because just lately I’ve been doing small oil paintings of a few of my more vivid dream images. I’ve discovered that this is great fun — and much more challenging than I’d anticipated, as I try to reduce the shifting, brilliant dream elements to the motionless painted surfaces we’re so used to in waking reality. [...]

[...] I’ve often wondered if at least some of my motivations for working this way have reincarnational or counterpart¹ inspirations. [...]

[...] I’ve found myself waking up early in the morning, stewing about her condition; usually I get up and eat breakfast alone, then call Jane by ten AM. I’ve noticed that the worry interferes with my appetite—something most unusual.

[...] I wrote them because I’ve been becoming increasingly concerned about the slowness of her progress—or, to put it another way, because I felt that beliefs must still be operating in the background to account for the slowness of her progress. [...]

We’ve had very little conscious experience with this Inner Sense. [...]

[...] I’ve managed to come up with some new insights about painting, however, and have begun implementing them. [...] The insights, which seem rather obvious in retrospect, represent a sort of synthesis that I’ve been trying for in recent years.

[...] “Though I should stay in one,” I said, “because I was more comfortable than I’ve been all day.” [...]

[...] “I’ve only been in this town twice, when I visited you before,” he said. [...]
