After we had published Seth’s “Unknown” Reality in two volumes back in 1977 and 1979, Jane and I decided that we wanted to keep his books shorter, and to issue them more frequently. [...]

This time, however, unlike the case with “Unknown” Reality, there won’t be any two-year wait between the production of the two volumes for Dreams—only a few months at the most. [...]

(The 706th session was held as scheduled last Wednesday night, and our guest, Tam Mossman, did witness it — but since Seth didn’t come through with any dictation for “Unknown” Reality during the session, it’s hereby deleted.

2. In Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, Seth designed all but two of his eight exercises, or practice elements, to help the reader directly explore some of the aspects of probable realities — although even the exceptions (numbers 6 and 8) aren’t far removed from probability concepts. [...]

Now a few remarks about “Unknown.”

[...] This of course applies in the area of “Unknown,” as well as in situations in which either of you compare yourselves unfavorably with, say, your neighbors’ physical activity. [...]

[...] “The Absent Self” — the absent or unknown self — is the portion of your own existence that you do not ordinarily perceive or accept, though there is within you a longing for it.

Much of “Unknown” Reality is involved with the breaking up of theories that have been long accepted, but that prevent you from perceiving the powerful nature of those absent portions of the self. [...]

“Unknown” Two will indeed almost immediately bring about an excellent increase of sales of volume 1—and when the two books are out they will give you an excellent additional steady income. [...]

(I think Seth commented on Volume 2 of “Unknown” because of all the returns Volume 1 is getting these recent weeks, after initially selling very well. [...]

(As of now: I’m practically through with the appendixes for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality — which means I still have a number of notes to write for the book’s sessions per se, as well as much work to do for the Introductory Notes and the Epilogue. [...] Sue has also agreed that next year she’ll start helping me type my notes and appendix material for Volume 2 of “Unknown.”

[...] You flip the switch and there it is, while all of that background work is unknown to you. [...]

[...] But I saw similarities of course between those various news events happening in far portions of the earth today, and the thought that the American and European civilizations had existed for so long on the same planet, yet completely unknown one to the other.

For unnumbered centuries, you had largely self-contained, unique “sophisticated” civilizations, intensified centers, situated in prime natural territories, but completely unknown one to the other, with thousands of miles of wild earth between, that was explored only by the most daring. [...]

You are supported, never abandoned, and always couched lovingly in the great yet intimate presence of All That Is, whose love forms your breath, your life, your death, as in which the unknown divinity is always blessed and ever known.

It is known and unknown, forming all stages of creativity, and you are held within it, graced to be a part of the divine framework of All That Is.

(A note added later: Seth himself had some things to say about Atlantis in the 742nd session for Section 6; the session also contains excerpts from the Atlantis material he delivered a month or so after finishing Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality. [...]

[...] Whether or not they want to mention it here in “Unknown” Reality, both Ruburt and Joseph have learned to correlate data so that some of the implications involved in a simple move from one house to another become apparent. [...]

3. Seth discussed his “blueprints for reality” a number of times in Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality. See the 696th session, for instance: “Each probability system has its own set of ‘blueprints,’ clearly defining its freedoms and boundaries … These are not ‘inner images of perfection,’ and to some extent the blueprints themselves change … As an individual you carry within you such a blueprint, then; it contains all the information you require to bring about the most favorable version of yourself in the probable system you know … In the same fashion the species en masse holds within its vast inner mind such working plans or blueprints.”

[...] Because of those combined attributes, I’m adding this note to the (740th) session in October 1975, six months after Seth finished dictating Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality. All names have been changed.

(A week has passed, and I’m still surprised: Not only has Jane helped me considerably in planning the notes for Psyche, but the other day she switched over to my Introductory Notes for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality and began organizing them in the same loose way.

[...] That was some 18 months ago, but actually to one degree or another I’ve been involved with “Unknown” Reality for four years now; I think that temporarily I’ve simply grown tired and overly concerned about the whole project, even while I still have a considerable way to go to finish certain notes and appendixes for Volume 2. Not that I haven’t worked on a number of other things at the same time, of course — but my labors on those two books represent the prolonged, intense focus I always search for in my creative life, and without which I feel incomplete. [...]

[...] The worry about Seven however was important, and the call today of benefit (to Prentice-Hall)—as the production of this book (The “Unknown” Reality) will be.

[...] On June 22 the pendulum told me that my stomach bothers me not because I don’t spend enough time painting, but because I feel guilty at spending the time I do, in view of all the other work with Jane that I feel I should be doing: working on sessions, “Unknown” Reality, etc.

(2. Did I go overboard on “Unknown” Reality? [...]

[...] I facetiously replied that if the information didn’t fit into “Unknown” Reality we’d “force it to.” [...] Anything on our house hunting, I thought, would be welcome here because it would help unite these late sessions for “Unknown” Reality with some of its much earlier ones [in Volume 1, as it turned out]. (Sue’s note intrigued me anew: After class I promised her that not only would I search our files about Grunaargh, but that with Seth’s help Jane and I would eventually get more information on that family, and present it somewhere in the notes for “Unknown” Reality. [...]

The first (in Sayre), mentioned far earlier in “Unknown” Reality, you thought was definitely sold, and today you discovered that the sale was not that final.¹⁰ As you discussed these issues a rather important main point escaped your minds: The man who owned the first house (Mr. Markle) was a dealer in antiques and precious stones, utterly devoted to his work and engrossed in it, considering it his art. [...]

It might be added later here that on succeeding days Jane had several more auditory-type experiences, all involving topics other than houses or “Unknown” Reality. In none of those episodes was she aware of Seth’s voice, per se, but even so we see relationships between them and the time she did hear his voice; see my description of that event at the beginning of the 710th session.

The nonphysical systems are frightening to the ego-centered personality; but the bulk of the individual’s reality does not lie within the physical universe, but in those unknown areas. [...]
