In the dream he then goes into his own room, and this is the part of the dream that he has consciously forgotten, and covers it in his notes merely by saying “unclear here,” and a vague reference to an electric storm.

7. While writing poetry on the evening of September 9, 1963, Jane had her first consciously recognized psychic experience. [...] During part of that time her consciousness left her body; and during it she produced through automatic writing a manuscript called The Physical Universe As Idea Construction. Later Seth told us that Jane’s alteration of consciousness had represented his first attempt to make “formal” contact with her, although she wasn’t aware of it then.

[...] My real fascination, however, lies with what I call the greatly enhanced consciousness, or energy, that she displays in the sessions — and always I sense an even more powerful flow of that quality just beneath the surface of her delivery. [...]

[...] And to have at least some of our deepest desires and motivations brought so clearly to conscious awareness, through psychic means or any other way, was more than we’d thought possible in previous years. [...]

[...] For some months we’d known her death was coming, and so had arranged our affairs around that irrevocable event; I spent weeks preparing the final manuscript of Personal Reality for the publisher; Jane conducted her ESP class whenever she could, and worked on her two books, Adventures in Consciousness and Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time. [...] You are not consciously aware, consciously underlined, of your control over the physical object that may be touched by that fingertip.

[...] There are methods and means, hidden to the ego, whereby the physical universe as you know it is constantly created and maintained. [...]

In spring 1965, about a year after we wrote Dr. Osis, Rob wrote to Dr. Instream (not his real name), who was connected with a state university in upstate New York. [...]

[...] Consciousness is the direction in which the self looks. [...]

We drove up past the stately university buildings. [...]

[...] The outer ego directs the manipulation of this gestalt in the physical universe. [...] This is by far the most advantageous method of experiencing inner reality, because the outer ego is therefore consciously aware of what has been going on, and can use such knowledge in its own sphere.

When the two are in balance and when there is communication between them, then the inner ego can directly communicate with the outer ego, bring to it the necessary enlightenments, and give it, that is give the outer ego the benefit of its own, the inner ego’s own, condensed comprehension and direct participation in the existence of the universe as a whole.

(Jane and I attended the Hypnosis Symposium at Oswego State University College at Oswego, NY, on Friday evening, July 9th, and on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11, at the invitation of Dr. Instream, codirector. I had written to Dr. Instream on June 1,1965 and sent him sessions 138, 141, 142, 149, 153 and 154, plus lists of the inner senses and the basic laws of the inner universe as defined by Seth. [...]

If life within the physical organism is to be maintained, then consciousness must return to it. This does not mean that consciousness is dependent upon the physical organism. [...] Your traveling consciousness appears as an apparition within some other systems.

In other systems the same energy idea will be transformed in a different way entirely, even as the physical objects within your universe are perceived in entirely different ways to others not within your system. [...]

Now in the realities of other systems another house, you see, could appear (smile) and another person could appear, and the projecting consciousness would be such a person. [...]

[...] To some extent then it must depend upon conscious deductions and reasoning. [...]

[...] Whenever our sessions, your own efforts, or other events, have convinced Ruburt either of the personal safe universe or of the basic safety of the self, that reassurance helped quiet the unconscious fears, and allowed him then to direct his will toward physical improvements.
