[...] She said the passage of time seemed like ten minutes at the most. Her eyes had been open much of the time.

[...] Her pace had picked up and her eyes, very dark, had been open much of the time.

These potential egos at one time or another will have their chance, as dominant egos, in this existence or in another reincarnation. [...]

Various portions of the self therefore face physical reality at any given time as the ego. [...] The self throws up those portions of itself that it considers most able to handle the changing physical environment at any given time.

If you compare the whole self with an ocean, then the topmost wave at any given time would represent the ego. [...]

[...] My God, it was short enough,” she exclaimed as she looked at the clock for the first time. Actually, the session had lasted 1 hour 12 minutes—slightly longer than her average time of 1 hour 7 minutes for the last five sessions. Jane’s sense of time had been elongated while she spoke for Seth: “I feel like I was really far … like you were getting more than you could translate, like you were right on the edge of something….”

[...] I managed to carry off the painting this time—merely giving impressions of the colors and foregoing their fantastic intensities and patterns. [...] The practice on the dream painting helped: This time I was able to hint more easily at the great combined radiance of those lights. [...]

[...] By session time I was caught. [...]

I also believe, however, that generally speaking science still views our genetic systems in mechanical, deterministic, and reductionistic terms, and will continue to do so for a long time: So that evidence is being accumulated to support that overall view that at this time science has no need to seek for other, larger, and more unsettling frames of reference encompassing consciousness, intent, and genetics. [...]

(Long pause.) I am not simply saying that genetic activity can be changed, for example, through something like a nuclear accident, but that highly beneficial alterations can also take place in genetic behavior, as in your terms the genetic structure not only prepares the species for any contingency, but also prepares it by triggering those characteristics and abilities that are needed by the species at any given time, and also by making allowances for such future developments (all quite forcefully).

[...] It is like a splendid ship, the body, that you have chosen ahead of time for a splendid challenging adventure—a ship that you have personally appointed that is equipped to serve as much as possible as a physical manifestation of your personhood.

The birth of imagination initiated the largest possibilities, and at the same time put great strain upon the biological creature whose entire corporeal structure would now react not only to present objective situations, but imaginative ones. At the same time members of the species had to cope with the natural environment as did any other animal. [...]

[...] The tree of knowledge, then, did indeed offer its fruits — and “good and bad” — because this was the first time there were any kinds of choices available, and free will.

[...] His name is P I E T R A. (Spelled out.) In psychological time or simply when you are still, close your eyes and imagine your physical universe as one room in our analogy, and his as another with a passageway between. [...]

I repeat: some of this can be conscious, if you use a psychological-time framework. [...]

[...] (Long pause.) At the time of this awakening man did experience, then, some sense of separation from his dream body, and from his own inner reality—the world of his dreams—but he was still far more aware of that subjective existence than you are now.

[...] Some of you have physical children as well—but you will all “one day” also be the mental parents of dream children who also waken in a new world, and look about them for the first time, feeling isolated and frightened and triumphant all at once. [...]

Again, the events that you perceive come packaged in time sequences, so that you are used to a certain kind of before-and-after order. [...] It may seem that psychological events have the same kind of structure, since after all you do perceive them in time.

[...] You are the physical event of yourself put into a given space and time, and because of the conditions of that framework, within it you automatically exclude other experience of your own selfhood. [...]

Individually and en masse, in the dream state you change the orientation of your consciousness, and deal with the birth of events which are only later time-structured or physically experienced.

Chapter 6 — headings as given last time (in Session 834).

There is an enchanting suggestion, solemnly repeated many times, particularly after the turn of the century: “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.”¹

[...] They looked for values, but at the same time they felt that they were themselves sons and daughters of a species tainted, at loose ends, with no clear destinations.

[...] This sleepy effect was already more pronounced, I thought, than it had been at any time during the last session. [...]

[...] However, after giving me some very astute data about my painting, Seth resumed book dictation very smoothly at 9:33 — just as though there hadn’t been any time lapse from February 11 to March 18.

(A note: I thought it would be of interest to show, by periodically recording the time, how long Seth takes to deliver a certain amount of finished material for his book.)
