([Joel:] “But you didn’t care if the Indians lived or died or survived or moved out or what happened?”

[...] After saying that Jane would live into her eighties also, he said that we would be instrumental in offering conclusive evidence for the survival of the personality after physical death. Without naming names, he told me that the one of us dying first would succeed in communicating with the surviving partner in such a way that the results would give conclusive proof “to the masses.”

(The two dreams not given but very similar to the three here quoted involved myself and cancer and my survival, and my being separated from Jane again, and strongly aware of sadness and concern.

[...] At the time I thought Seth meant my nonphysical survival. Now I see the statement can apply to physical survival also.)

Good and evil then simply represented the birth of choices, initially in terms of survival, where earlier instinct alone had provided all that was needed. [...]

In terms of simple biological function, you now had a species no longer completely dependent upon instinct, yet still with all the natural built-in desires for survival, and the appearance within it of a mind able to make decisions and distinctions.
