– Session 339 May 3, 1967 9:45 PM Wednesday
It is early evening. There are these fairly thin wooden posts, but not round (frown, gestures) rectangular at the top, you see. Perhaps hip level, to the left from my same position. The coastline is not straight here. Some sort of a bay effect, to the left. (Gesture right hand.) The land is like this, you see, not straight. The land curves and juts out again.
(We had not checked any maps, etc., for the location of Chula Vista, California [where the brothers live], before the session of course. Before finishing these notes, however, we did check to find that Chula Vista is indeed near a bay; that the coast is not straight there.)

Now I want you, in the same way, to picture his arms straight in normal position, and follow the same procedure.

Ruburt can picture, mentally, your straight penis, more easily than he can his own arms.

Action does not always move in what you would consider a straight line. Because you view action in narrow terms, usually seeing it in physical terms only, you are inclined to think of it, or any effort, as a straight line from one point to another.
[...]
It is most important, again, to realize that action does not move in a straight line.

(9:32.) Again, his natural abilities kept leading him, so it seemed, away from the straight novel framework into the science fiction format, where at that time he discovered that science fiction was not given any particular honor in the literary field.

Again he tried some straight novels.

Later he tried straight novels, but when he let himself go his natural fiction fell into the form of fantasy, outside of the novel’s conventions into science fiction’s form—and at that time further away from the mainstream.

Had one of his straight novels been accepted at that time, the story might be different somewhat.
