“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(Herbert Hoover, the Mayo brothers, Susan B. Anthony and Robert E. Lee appear on some of the stamps; I suppose any of these could be connected with “something splendid.” Stamp #2 depicts a scene in Kansas. Seth mentioned two or three people; the stamps depict a total of nine people, plus two hands on the special delivery stamp. Are these hands “something that only partially appears?” The same thing could be said about any bust depicted.

(From the sketch on page 250 it can be seen that parallel lines, both horizontal and tall, or vertical, are present; these are the customary wavy lines of cancellation. See stamps numbered 1, 2, and 3 on the sketch. On the envelope paper beneath stamp #2 is a green printed box of the type used for prepaid mail, but I do not know if this is what Seth means by “lines on the other side.” This could also refer to the letters the stamps once serviced.

(No water scene appears specifically on any stamp, or a child. Men and women are shown. As far as I can tell no portion of an address shows, or a tavern or place of refreshment. Nor do we know what to make of “someone stubborn,” unless this was a personality trait of one of the people depicted on the stamps. I could speculate that Jane’s constant nagging at herself to begin another project was stubborn, in that she refused to relax. This is hardly the kind of test data we seek however. 3 6 is Jane’s age, but we discount this also.

(I had prepared the usual double test envelope earlier in the day, but doubted it would be used if Jane was not in a good mood for the session. This time I cemented a collection of used U.S. postage stamps, still on original paper, to a folded piece of white paper. See my tracing on page 250. I sandwiched this paper between two pieces of bristol board to prevent identification by touch, and slipped the assemblage into the usual two envelopes.

(Jane mentioned the 4¢ postage stamp on the object; strictly speaking the stamp is not quite square, but if the stamp had been perceived clairvoyantly perhaps its shape was interpreted as a square.

[...] The only thing close to red on the object is the 4¢ postage stamp, current series, bearing Lincoln’s bust. [...] Seth hints at another possible meaning later, but we believe the stamp is the object referred to.

[...] We think this applies to the 4¢ Lincoln US postage stamp on the object. As stated earlier the stamp is printed in red ink with blue added. [...]

[...] The only 8 on the object, although there are 28 other numbers on the object, including the denomination on the stamp.

(In addition, the idea of a federal building enters in, in that the object is a pseudopostage stamp. Monument can also apply, for in the U.S. only deceased persons are shown on stamps; thus an appearance on a stamp is a kind of tribute and a sort of monument. [...] I was familiar with it through collecting stamps years ago. [...]

[...] As stated, it is a mock postage stamp I drew on Friday, November 25, 1966, at work. [...]

[...] Here again Seth/Jane explores the mail connection with the object, which is a pseudopostage stamp. [...]

[...] And to me: “Sometimes I think that you, whenever you get any idea that doesn’t have to do with painting, ought to stamp it out with both feet, and just stick to that. [...]

(Last night, April 12, 1964, I had a brief but very vivid dream, in which I saw one of the big branches of the tree in front of Stamp’s house, around the corner from us, fall to the ground.

(“And many, more than one, reddish colored stamps.” [...] The card bears the usual single gray blue 5¢ stamp showing George Washington. [...]

[...] As stated the stamp on the object is gray blue, and bears a figure 5. It seems however that this data probably refers to the figure of Mother Goose, shown on the object, and to the statue standing upon a base that is painted blue. [...]

If the major religions have been touched, then there have also been numberless smaller cults and sects throughout history into the present that bear that same stamp of great psychological power and energy, coupled with an inborn leaning toward self destruction and vengeance.

[...] They are not neutral, in that all knowledge or information bears the stamp of the personality who holds it or passes it on.

Those sequences follow the pursuits of value fulfillment so smoothly that they can be reactivated whenever the conditions are fortunate—for even the animals are not concerned with simple survival alone, nor the plants, but with what I can only call (long pause) emotional qualities: qualities that seek a full appreciation and creative extension of those conditions of consciousness that stamp each species as itself and yet join it with all others.
