(A short unscheduled session was held on this date, with Bill Macdonnel and his friend Joanie Gilbert as witnesses. The session resulted after the stage had been set earlier in the evening, through Jane’s playing the tape recently received from the Murtough family in Chula Vista, CA; and, afterward, her playing part of the tape made some time ago for Dr. Instream.

9:05 P.M. MONDAY
(The 44th envelope experiment was held during the session. [...] These cards are mentioned on page 40 of the 243rd session; this gave me the idea of using them for an experiment. Jane had read the 243rd session recently but had not seen the cards. [...]

[...] The one main test to be applied to these sessions, to my advice and to the material is this: The sessions, the material and your new knowledge must transform your psychic and physical environment, your health and all aspects of your inner and outer life for the better. [...]
The quotation from Seth just presented will certainly lead the reader to wonder about additional sessions we may have acquired from him since April 16, and from Jane since April 20 (see the essays for those dates). The answer is that we’ve held 13 more sessions—4 of them given by Jane “herself,” and 9 by Seth speaking through her. The last session in that baker’s dozen was delivered by Seth on June 7. Most of the sessions are rather short, and not all of them are strictly personal. [...]
Even if those sessions can’t be quoted in these essays because of the obvious space limitations, I can note that Jane and Seth each continued to develop the themes already laid down in the sessions that have been presented. [...] The material in the sessions is exhilarating, painful, enlightening, perceptive, frustrating, and maddening by turn—and sometimes, it seems, all of those things at once. [...]
But that simple statement also means that our dream work relative to Jane’s challenges has often been powerfully abetted by Seth in many of the 347 completely private and 159 partially private sessions he’s given us since November 1965. [...] (Not that I haven’t presented excerpts from a few of those sessions in other Seth books.)
[...] In his session for April 16 (see the essay for the same date), Seth told us that on several occasions Jane’s thyroid gland has “repaired itself,” but we don’t think that has fully happened yet this time. In a recent private session (for May 10) Seth told us: “The gland is activating itself by itself—off and on, so to speak, giving a sputtering effect. [...]
[...] Jane held a few widely scattered sessions for Dreams, and a number of private ones as fall came, then winter. Those sessions represented largely futile activity, I thought, yet I gladly admitted that each one of them was as unique and creative as ever, no matter what its subject. [...] Finally, early in December 1981 I told Jane I was on the verge of refusing to sit with her for any sessions at all, regular or private, for I’d become deeply afraid that the more sessions she held the worse she’d get. [...]
[...] Not only that, but those “magical” sessions had naturally developed into another series, this time on a portion of the personality Seth called “the sinful self”—mine as well as that of others—and those sessions had in turn led me to produce many pages of material directly from my own sinful self. [...] And even if all of those sessions had been born out of my own psychic and psychological challenges and dilemmas, I knew they were excellent and deserved publication.
[...] The way had been illuminated by Seth himself in his private sessions, with his discussions of her sinful self and related challenges: Those sessions, the publication of the two books, Jane’s personal sinful-self material and her worsening physical situation, all combined to serve as a complex trigger. [...] I presented their beginning in the notes for Session 931, in Chapter 9 of Dreams. I repeat that material here but add considerably more to it. [...]
(We finally held our first “new” Seth session last Monday evening, on April 12. [...] And even though this is a personal session, still I think it contains clues that apply to all of us. [...]
(Omitted from the regular session copy to avoid any possible embarrassment to the Wilburs, Marilyn and Don, of Wellsburg, NY.
(Toward the end of the session as Seth, Jane and I sat talking alone, after the departure of the Gallaghers, Seth volunteered the information that Scotty was a greedy child. [...]
(An added note, omitted from the regular session copy:
SESSION 223 (DELETED PORTION)
(No session was held on Friday, December 9. The day was a busy but routine one in which we did our usual things. When Jane read the session for the day before she did quite well—much better than she’d done the day before. [...]
[...] I worked with mail, and suggested to Jane that she have a session before the parade into 330 began, to check her vitals.)
(At the supper table this evening we had been speculating about the times Seth had given in connection with his life as a pope, both in the ESP class session for May 25, 1971, and the 588th session in this chapter. [...] To our further surprise, Seth added to the data concerning that life in tonight’s session.)
(The session began late this evening because Jane and I first attended a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary surprise party for a member of ESP class. [...]
(10:55 P.M. This proved to be the end of the session.)
SESSION 590, AUGUST 9, 1971,
10:05 P.M. MONDAY
(After Monday’s short session Jane visited Miss Callahan, but was unable to learn from her of anything unusual or significant that might have happened to or with her during the time mentioned by Seth in the 63rd session. [...]
(Jane’s cold was not much better, and as session time drew near she said that unless Seth helped her considerably there would be no session, for she was having difficulty talking.
(Jane was not nervous before the session. She began dictating in a quiet voice; she had been coughing a lot, but as soon as the session began the coughing stopped, except for a very few isolated single coughs she gave at widely separated intervals. [...]
Perhaps the session will even give it a rest. I would continue the session, except that Ruburt has more or less been promised a two-week vacation, and he has not even had that as far as I am concerned.
[...] As he quite humorously commented in the 14th session for January 8, 1964: “… for you have no idea of the difficulties involved in explaining time to someone who must take time to understand the explanation.” Yet Seth’s simultaneous time isn’t an absolute, for, as he also told us in that session: “While I am not affected by time on your plane, I am affected by something resembling time on my plane … To me time can be manipulated, used at leisure and examined. [...]
7. Because I think they contain some of Seth’s most basic information, I also presented these quotations from the 14th session in my Introductory Notes for Volume 1. Additional material from the 14th session can be found in Appendix 13 (in Volume 2), and its Note 4.
[...] Well, it’s easier to let Seth do it, so I guess I’ll light a cigarette and go into the session….”)
[...] You may, however, include portions of the session in “Unknown” Reality if you so choose. [...]
[...] The reasons for this will be made clear as the session unfolds. [...] Her voice did not change character through the session to speak of, nor did either of us display any hand phenomena.)
I mentioned earlier that these sessions involved a lifetime’s work, as long of course as you are both willing. The times of sessions may change, adjustments being made for various reasons. [...]
Nevertheless, I will close the session early, as it is certainly an excellent one; and we have finally begun to get near, but hardly into, the heart of the matter—that’s a pun. I enjoy such sessions.
(By 8:45 Jane was somewhat nervous; but she said that for recent sessions she has not felt as unsettled as she used to.
(In the notes preceding the last session I wrote that Jane was to call Tam about the date of publication for Mass Events and God of Jane. [...] The news tied in with Jane’s upsetting dream of April 12—see the copy attached to the last session; this makes the dream precognitive in at least some sense.
(Long pause at 9:54.) Ideas of using considerable caution have been with him for that matter before the sessions began, when he recognized his own energy, the ease with which he could encounter people. [...] Those habits were there, again, before the sessions began, and they have their basis in the church’s concepts of the sinful nature of the basic self. [...]
(Jane slept late this morning, and after she had breakfast I read her last night’s session. [...]
(The 49th envelope experiment was held during the session. [...] It was produced on the evening of the unscheduled 251st session. Jane ended up physically ill after this session, which saw very strong voice effects. [...]
(The session was held in the front room. [...]
[...] The unscheduled 251st session was held on the Friday evening Don Wilbur produced the envelope object, April 15,1965. [...]
