(We sat ready for a session at 9 PM. Jane was still waiting by 9:10 for the session to begin; while feeling a little unsureness we were still confident that a session would be held. [...]
(Any difficulty persisted, she thought, just because of the newness in the sessions. But she did like to hear from Seth each session just to make sure he was still there.
[...] Anytime you want me to liven your sessions up however I will do so. And I will be here often, as a matter of course, in our regular sessions.
(Notes: No session was held Monday, 5/13. [...]
(At about 8 PM Jane said she would like to try having a session this evening —whether private or regular she didn’t know. She didn’t feel Seth around, but lately has wanted to resume the sessions. [...]
(We sat for the session at 8:30. Jane was both nervous and impatient at the prospect of her first session since last August 13. [...]
Now: the session will be brief. [...]
I will have further pertinent material myself to add to the overall category of Ruburt’s situation, but I am simply making this evening’s session to give him a sense of immediate direction, and in his case to break the ice, so to speak. [...]
[...] In the first experiment in the 179th session, Seth came through with one accurate impression. In the 18th experiment, held during the 212th session, a few more impressions were obtained; but overall the results were interfered with by other factors in a way that doesn’t seem to happen these days. See Session 179 in Volume 4, and Session 212 in Volume 5.
(Seth gave 24 impressions about the envelope object in the 257th session. He gave 21 impressions concerning the same object in the 258th session. In the notes for the 258th session I note 11 impressions that could refer to the impressions given in the 257th session. [...]
[...] on page 148 of the last session, plus several others from the last session. This invitation…communication data also picks up the first impression given in tonight’s session, interpreted on page 155: “A connection with a trial…”
(The 53rd envelope experiment was held this session. The object was the same object used for the last session, the 257th. [...]
(Just before tonight’s session Jane and I had been discussing her excellent results in part two of the 363rd session. [...]
[...] I knew she probably also preferred a shorter session tonight. After the session I asked Jane to keep in mind that the car could be discussed again.)
We will then close our session, but I will begin to take up the matters discussed this evening at our next session. [...]
[...] I did indeed begin as usual in the Gallagher session, and then I retreated more to the background, so that he could become more familiar with the immediacy involved in going after such data.
[...] When for fairly long periods there are no witnesses to sessions, then both Ruburt and myself do indeed lean toward unscheduled sessions when informed friends of yours are present. On the other hand when several sessions in a row, regular sessions, are witnessed, then of course I grow impatient because I am anxious to get back to our own material, which is stressed when we are alone.
(In the 197th session Seth suggested that I not wait for him to request an envelope test. In a recent session also he said it was not wise for such tests to be given at the end of a session, when Jane is tired. [...]
(The 17th envelope test was held during this session. [...] The data, and Seth’s explanation of the results, appear in their regular places in the session.
(It might be mentioned here that quite a few sessions ago Seth dealt with a similar vivid experience of Marian’s, in which she received a message from the father of her husband; the father died perhaps a year ago. See the 100th and 101st sessions.
He did not know his wife requested the session, and I do not want it known. [...] He did attend a session here himself, and you may request a statement on that session.
(Before the session tonight Jane and I discovered during our conversation that each of us had toyed with the idea of asking Seth to answer the letter. [...] We sat for the session as usual at 9 PM, waiting to see what developed.
I do not intend to take up our sessions with such material, however. I will then end the session. [...]
(The evening was very hot and humid; it was quite uncomfortable even through it had just rained, and Jane wasn’t sure we would have a session. [...]
(This is but the second session we have held outside of Elmira, the other being the 89th, of September 19,1964, held at my brother’s home in Rochester, NY, before three witnesses. Jane was now a little concerned at having a session away from home and in daylight. At the same time she had wanted to hold a session for Dr. Instream, feeling this would explain more about the sessions than any other method could.
[...] Her eyes remained closed for the entire session. [...] At times it became louder, but never approached the volume of the 158th session, for example. [...] I had to ask Seth to slow down several times during the first part of the session.
(Up until this point I had made a verbatim record as usual, and had thought the little session in Dr. Instream’s office ended. An exchange now developed however, that was new to us in the sessions, involving Jane, Seth, Dr. Instream and myself. The pace quickened to some degree, and as stated before I made no effort to interfere with the spontaneity of the session. [...]
(This first part of the session is verbatim as usual, until the interchange between Seth and Dr. Instream began at 1:59. Here the pace began to speed up as the two talked back and forth, and in the interests of spontaneity, and because this was a new development in the sessions, I made no attempt to slow Seth down, nor to record every word Seth or Dr. Instream spoke.
(What I’m trying to do is to let the information Seth has given in the last several deleted sessions for me, starting with that for April 4, sink in so that I can achieve a synthesis of it all both consciously and unconsciously. I think the material is very perceptive, and that I may have begun achieving some kind of equanimity between the two men, or opposing sets of belief, that Seth so aptly described in the deleted session for April l8. [I read these sessions daily.] It’s essential that these conflicting beliefs be resolved by the personality, and I’m determined to do so. [...]
[...] Jane was surprised at the session’s quick end. [...] She could only speculate that the “Yale business” had something to do with the short session, even though she wasn’t consciously aware of it. We’d been set for the session to run until midnight if that was the way it developed.
(Before the session Jane read over the letter from D. R. Moorcroft, the professor of physics who’d written her such a fine letter on April 3. She divided the letter into questions; Seth may discuss some of them tonight. [...] Seth does refer to the first question Jane had noted, and that material is also presented as the 849th session, as well as being included here.
(All of this delayed our sitting for the session until 10:07. [...] “Here I thought we were going to have a nice peaceful week, with some sessions on Mass Reality, maybe, but now, who knows....”
[...] We shall have an excellent session Wednesday, when I hope to finish up some of the material which we have been discussing, at least. [...] If now and then you ever want an additional session, under most circumstances I will agree. I do not mean extra sessions for witnesses particularly, since these sessions are open to anyone who is sincerely interested. I simply mean that if you ever feel the desire for an additional session, I would comply.
As far as the sessions themselves are concerned in relation to Ruburt, your love and reinforcement are necessary; and on your part the atmosphere of confidence, which indeed you have always given him, this will allow him the greatest possible development of ability within the sessions, and of course will further the sessions themselves.
One half-hour a day is more than sufficient, considering these sessions. And also, I am at present against these fairly frequent sessions where, on the one hand, Ruburt pretends that he is merely resting; that is, he pretends to himself, but actually he is expanding his energies, and expending them just as quickly, for this amounts to more than one psychological time experiment daily.
[...] Our sessions themselves are always in a state of becoming. [...] I would prefer that he channels his new abilities mainly, though not exclusively, in our sessions.
(Monday evening’s session concerned the use of hallucinogenic drugs, including LSD, as therapy; no book dictation was involved. Actually, once Jane began speaking for Seth the session went very well indeed, and lasted until midnight. [...]
(Seth had already given the heading for Chapter Ten, but as we sat for the session now I reminded Jane of her questions about group souls, as described at the end of the 637th session. [...]
1. A note added a little later: For more on Dialogues, altered states of consciousness, creative processes, etc., see the notes following the 618th session in Chapter Three, and those for the 639th session in Chapter Ten.
[...] He was using it not long after these sessions began. In the 44th session for April 15th, 1964, I find him saying, in part, “Growth in your camouflage [physical] universe involves the taking up of more space. [...]
(Just two months ago, I mentioned in the 857th session that Seth was continuing to dictate material for Mass Events on Wednesday evenings only. With one exception [involving a portion of Session 862], he’s kept to that policy, setting aside Monday nights for other regular or private information.
(Even though Seth didn’t call last Monday’s 867th session book dictation, then, Jane and I presented it because his material on viruses, disease, health, and biological experimentation obviously complemented his themes for Mass Events. The excerpts from tonight’s session continue that presentation.
(9:56 P.M. “Boy, how he got all that out of me, I don’t know,” Jane laughed, for she had been very relaxed before the session. [...] I’ve deleted a few portions of the session that don’t apply to disease and evolutionary experimentation. [...]
4. See Note 1 for Session 862, and the closing notes for Session 867.
(Jane’s poem can also serve as a symbol to show that she hasn’t held a session for Mass Events for 42 weeks, or since giving the 830th session last March; indeed, the summer, fall, and winter of 1978 have passed, and we’re into the next year [and a very cold and stormy one it is, so far]. We accomplished many things during those nine and a half months, however, including the holding of 56 nonbook sessions. Those sessions, whether private or not, are of course more than double in number the 22 sessions Jane has given for Mass Events [not counting tonight’s]. In connection with our feelings about the long intervals that have materialized several times during the production of this book, see my opening notes for the 815th session — especially those concerning simultaneous time, and my statement that “We do not plan to ask Seth when the book will be done.” [...]
(“Looking over those nine-and-a-half months of sessions now, it’s fairly obvious what Seth was up to. He’d initially given us the material on Frameworks 1 and 2 in private sessions not long after starting Mass Events, as Rob explained in his notes for Session 814. Yet even though Seth also discussed those psychic frameworks to some degree in a dozen sessions for the book, still he finally took that break in dictation to ‘re-educate’ us, looking at our own previous beliefs and those of the world at large in the light of Frameworks 1 and 2.
(Then in May 1978 Sue Watkins began helping me by typing the final manuscript for the session notes for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality. [...] Late that month — unbelievably to me — I finished my own work on Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, and immediately began to type the final draft of the sessions; as I finished groups of sessions I mailed them to Tam every few days, while at the same time collaborating with Jane on the table of contents for the book. [...]
(We held our first session for 1979 — a private one — on the evening of New Year’s Day. During it Seth remarked that he’d “begin book sessions again next Wednesday,” but that didn’t quite work out; he still had a few more nonbook sessions to go. [...]
(I presume here that by “earliest session” Seth refers to his first material on the fifth dimension, given in the 12th session. Space as a fifth dimension was however also referred to in the first session. See Volume 1, page 8. This first session material was given to us through Frank Watts, however. [...] Seth stated recently that the Seth material begins when he announced his presence to us by name, and this would be in the 4th session. See the 85th session, Volume 2, page 336, for Seth’s statement concerning the Frank Watts material.)
(See the 41st session for Seth’s first long dissertation on the spacious present. This was delivered April 6. The 44th session includes much on the basic laws of the inner universe also, as do the other sessions received during this period. [...]
We will indeed before too long delve into the means by which these sessions are made possible, and the reasons also for Ruburt’s fatigue at the end of some of the sessions, and his exuberance at the end of others.
[...] Jane was fully dissociated again, and ended the session with a smile. She was tired, but not so much as at the end of the last session.
Actually, Seth has been describing in various ways the indissoluble relationship between consciousness and information (or consciousness and anything else), ever since Jane began holding the sessions over a decade ago. [...] From the more than 64 three-ring binders, or volumes, as we call them, that hold the typed transcripts of our sessions, I picked out the second binder. Within it were sessions 16 to 23 inclusive, covering the period from January 15 to February 5, 1964. Five of the eight sessions contained material applicable to this note. Seth, in the 18th session, for example:
10. Besides quoting from the 18th session in Note 7, above, I presented excepts on tree consciousness from the same session in Note 7 for Session 727. Let me briefly continue that early Seth material here: “In drawing up his list of so-called natural laws, I have said (in the 16th session) that man decided that what appeared to be cause and effect to him was, therefore, a natural law of the universe. [...]
4. In Volume 1, see the 687th session at 10:45, when Seth said: “Biologically the man knows he has come from the earth. [...] Then see Note 3 for that session — especially Jane’s poem, Illumination.
6. In Volume 1: See the material from 10:49 to 11:22 for the 684th session. In Volume 2: See the 716th session, for instance.
[...] I read the session to Jane at her request. [...] I’d sensed anger again as the session progressed. [...] Probably my own attitude and mood today, of course — yet the session could have been any one of a similar kind that Jane had given in the last ten years. [...]
[...] Then I told her to read yesterday’s session as I held it for her. [...] First she read the Seth material in the session, then the notes at my insistence.
[...] The session does automatically add its own sense of infinite devotedness by gathering together the healing abilities, which have their own soothing effect.
[...] See the notes at the beginning of the session. [...] Most of his material is deleted here, but I can write that her situation was tied in to her work with the challenges presented by her physical symptoms [as described in Note 8 for the 679th session, in Section 1]. [...] In the personal part of this session, then, Seth explained how her very beneficial state of ease “now began in a dream state last night, was further accelerated this morning, and further so in the relaxation just before the session…. [...]
(Jane had been in another lackadaisical mood most of the day, yet she’d told me after supper that she wanted to have a session tonight. At 9:15, as we sat waiting, she had her first intimation from Seth that a session would actually take place. “And it’ll be on the book … I’m not used to being so relaxed beforehand, though …” What developed was a very short session, and contrary to her expectations, Seth devoted half of it to Jane herself. [...]
The 92nd session for September 28, 1964, was a basic one for information on dreams, and Jane quotes various portions of it in chapters 5 and 14, as listed above; I ask the reader to review that material especially (and in both books). In connection with that session, here is some follow-up dream information that Seth gave in the 97th session:
4. Seth discussed the basic unpredictability from which significances arise in sessions 681–82, in Section 1. After break at 11:47 in the 681st session, he incorporated this line in his material: “From the ‘chaotic’ bed of your dreams springs your ordered daily organized action.”
(We sat for the session at 9:10. [...] She didn’t think there would be a regular session this evening. [...]
[...] Some will be given in session time, though not this evening, and other material will be given at various levels of consciousness. There will be no regular session this evening, except for these comments that are meant to reassure Ruburt. [...]
There are rhythms that exist, as I have mentioned before, and over a period of time, had you the time to check your records you would see that overall we have about the same number of sessions over a yearly period. [...]
End of session, and a fond good evening. [...]
(Notes for what they are worth: The 410th session was due Monday, May 6, 1968. [...] Jane drank two and a half quick beers, which affected her enough so that no session was held.
(At session time she sat waiting to see if a session would develop. [...]
(Just before the session, Jane told me later, she was again aware of the cone affect, which she calls an obvious intellectual attempt to visualize the new as it is postulated in the sessions. [...]
[...] However, Jane and I did not see the article until the day after tonight’s session; note that this session is held on the same day the article was published. [...]
[...] But Ruburt may as well now continue with this heroic endeavor, although I fear that it will cost us this session. It would perhaps have been more convenient if the effort had been started on other than a session night, but in any case I expect to see the endeavor succeed, and certainly do not mind missing a session for this purpose.
[...] Do not fret because of this brief session, Joseph. [...] This evening however Ruburt’s subconscious is in a rather chaotic state, and I shall not attempt now to carry on a regular session.
[...] Perhaps we can make up this session, or perhaps we can make it up in an entirely different fashion. In any case, you may possibly hear more of me in one way or another before our next regular session. [...]
(It might be noted here that the 87th session dealt rather extensively with Jane’s death from cancer in a previous life in Boston, and stated that she would not die of the disease again. [...]
