(Seth also agreed with me concerning my memory of earlier sessions in which he stated she would live to old age. Since our index is not completed for all the sessions, I cannot find as many exact references here as I would like, other than to ask Seth for help in naming particular sessions, and do not know whether this is possible. [...]

(No session was planned. [...] Jane has experienced this same phenomenon several times while reading this work, and it is dealt with in the 131st and 158th sessions.

[...] This is the first time he has given me any specific age, although in several previous sessions, among them the 149th and the 217th, he has mentioned my living to an old age. In the 105th session, among others, he stated that Jane’s death was not “to occur for many years.” [...]

[...] I should add here that the 105th session dealt with the death of Jane’s mother, as well as Jane living to an advanced age. [...] The subject had been brought up by severalvivid dreams and psychological time experiences Jane had had concerning her mother. While giving this 105th session, Seth had also had trouble getting the information through, ascribing the difficulty to Jane’s ego. [...]

(It will be remembered that during the unscheduled session on last Sunday, February 27, and during Monday’s regular session for February 28, Seth had mentioned the possibility of witnesses for last Wednesday’s session, March 2. Moreover he mentioned the possibility existed for two sets of witnesses, and for four people, perhaps even five. When no witnesses appeared for Wednesday’s session Seth said in answer to my question: “I was being cagey. [...]

(The Wilburs have witnessed a few unscheduled sessions. Their first experience is mentioned in the notes for the 206th session, of November 8,1965. Their next is mentioned in the notes for the 214th session, of December 6,1965. The unscheduled session was held on November 5,1965; see page 57.

(It can be said that since the Gallaghers and the Wilburs both know of the sessions, and that they visit us regularly, an unscheduled session is hardly unusual with these two sets of witnesses. It can also be said however that we do not easily hold unscheduled sessions, although from the record it might seem they are held rather often. [...]

(An unscheduled session was held this evening. [...] No notes were taken at the time of the session.

(During this part of the impromptu session Jane’s voice became very loud and strong at times; it did not match the effects of the recorded 170th session, but came close once or twice. [...] At times Jane got to her feet and tipped her head back, as she had done in the 170th session. [...]

(I would estimate the session ended at 11:20 PM, with the knock on the door. The Taylors are a nice young couple, newly arrived in Elmira, and do not know of the sessions. [...] Very few people in town know about the sessions, although this state will be drastically altered next spring with the publication of Jane’s ESP book.

(I made no notes during this session or immediately after. What follows is Jane’s own reconstruction of the session, made two days later; for this reason I think it interesting, aside from its intrinsic content, in that it reveals that Jane was able to recall quite an amount of what she said while in the trance state.

[...] We played part of the 170th session, which was recorded and directed by Seth to Dr. Instream. [...] John had never heard the loud Seth; the previous sessions he witnessed had all been quiet ones. [...]

(Before the session I mentioned that I hoped Seth would say more about John Bradley hearing Seth, as related in the 204th session. Seth gives us at least a little more information on this in the following sessions.

(It will be remembered that during the 199th, 200th and 201st sessions Seth conducted clairvoyant/telepathic tests with the Gallaghers while they were on vacation in Puerto Rico. Jane and I have now received from them their checklist, made against Seth’s predictions and statements, and as soon as it is typed up the material will be inserted into a session.

(The session was held in our back room and was a quiet one. [...] Her eyes opened narrowly at times during the session. [...]

(During the 68th session Seth stated that eventually, as Jane’s abilities grow, it should be possible for him to speak to us from different locations in the room, independent of Jane’s position, and that it might also develop that he could speak to us from his own apparition. During this session an apparition was seen by a witness. [...]

(Today I read the deleted session for June 24, 1973—one of those in the 1973 deleted book that Seth suggested I read, in the last session. I was dismayed to realize that some four and a half years had passed since that session had been held, and that we were still struggling with the same problems—indeed, that Jane had lost much ground physically in the interim. [...] I explained my feelings to Jane as we sat for the session, and as I talked felt myself sink into a deep depression. [...]

[...] I suggest you read the late sessions again, and I imagine that by our next session you will both be in a better frame of mind, unless you allow your discouraging feelings to predominate, which would be a vast mistake.

End of session. I want you, however, to take this to heart, for simple as it sounds the session is of significance. [...]

[...] The last sessions managed to rearouse your faith, but you yourselves must tend it, as indeed, Joseph, you tend your plants. [...]

(In a recent deleted session, Seth told us that Jane’s symptoms deepened after she held a session for a friend of Venice McCullough’s a few years ago. The friend committed suicide, and Jane regarded the session as a failure. [...]

He was giving a good deal of time to our sessions. The woman’s session, to him, was to some degree a test of the material’s practical worth to someone in deep trouble. [...] The woman did not want the session, and had made a decision she did not intend to change. [...]

[...] If the suggestions in the session are followed, they will alter his picture of his own reality, and through action. Naturally the session must be followed and not just read, from the sketching or painting suggestions right on. If that session is followed faithfully for two months, you will see some nearly spectacular changes.

(In our talk before the session, I had the feeling that Jane kept sliding away from the direct consideration of the question. She often went into detail concerning the suspected session, without saying anything about the fact that a psychic experience could make worse symptoms that had begun before the psychic work, per se, had become conscious knowledge to us.

(This afternoon I mowed some grass out front as soon as it stopped raining, then typed last night’s session, almost finishing it. [...] Jane didn’t feel like reading and discussing sessions, though, so we decided to have one tonight and perhaps do some reading tomorrow.)

[...] Note that Seth began commenting right away on the notes I’d written at the end of the last [yesterday’s] session, about my unfriendly feelings toward the Sinful Self at this time. In the session he also touched upon several other points I’d raised very recently, including the nature of Jane’s symptoms. [...]

(It had rained hard after supper, but slackened as session time drew close. [...] But they became much more quiet as the session progressed.)

(We’d wanted to read over some of the late sessions today, but didn’t do it. [...]

(As we began to reread Monday’s session this morning, Jane said something that triggered a reaction on my part that I felt was based on material Seth gave in that session: “I tell my body every day that I trust it, that it can bear my weight when I go to the john, for example,” or words closely to that effect. [...]

[...] I also wanted him to talk about the subject we’d mentioned for Monday night’s session, but which hadn’t been covered: the reasons for her sore backside, and what she could do to help ease her hip and leg discomfort. [...] But at this time in these sessions we’ve got to get all the new data we can to help in our own hassles.

[...] As I finished cleaning up the planter I came up with another of the “insights” I’ve been getting since we started this series of private sessions on February 4, 1981; see my notes at the end of the session for February 11. [...]

[...] I’ll either read it to her before tonight’s session, or discuss it with her after breakfast tomorrow, when I read her tonight’s session. [...]

[...] Afterward she had trouble reading Session 903, and I tried to read portions of it to her. [...] However, I did figure out the way to handle the few notes for the session, and decided to forget others I’d started struggling with. I already regretted the time I was spending on the session for Dreams.

[...] I added that I was trying to avoid projecting any hassles with Dreams into the future, in line with the session for the day before [February 1], though I was aware that some of what I was saying contradicted elements of that session. [...]

(Jane wants me to note that this is Day 2 of her new approach to life, based on the session for February 1. I do think the session is an excellent one, and I’ve copied it for use at the house, too.)

[...] I told her I brought Session 903 of Dreams with me so I could ask her a couple of questions. [...]

(We have always thought of the 33rd session as furnishing the most dramatic display of voice changes on Jane’s part, both in volume and a lower register. I would say that tonight’s session saw Jane surpass those voice effects as far as sheer power and staying ability went by some little margin; but I do not think her voice dropped as low. [...] She said that before the Father Trainor demonstration she had been concerned about her voice being able to give a session tomorrow night, Monday, let alone tonight.

There is an emotional action, Joseph, in this session that is important; for our sessions deal with many layers, and I regret that this one layer is at most times neglected. I am endeavoring to give this evening’s session an emotional gestalt that will be an experience in itself, and in itself a lesson.

(I thought of recording this evening’s session earlier, as stated, but did not do so in the interests of spontaneity, a quality to which Seth attaches great value. To be ready to record an unscheduled session we would have to have the recorder set up and ready to go at a flick of a switch, constantly. To date our unscheduled sessions haven’t been that frequent by far, and there are actually few unusual effects to be noted.)

[...] Jane announced that she felt the rapport in our group was favorable, that Seth could hold a session now if we requested it. [...] The session then began with Jane sitting in the same chair, facing us.

(The first session in the Preface for Volume 1 of Dreams is a private one that Jane delivered on September 13, 1979. In the Preliminary Notes for the session I wrote that Seth had finished dictating Mass Events a month ago [in the 873rd session for August 15, to be exact], and that a week later I began finishing my own notes for the book. [...]

In spite of those thoughts, Jane was still rather upset and out of sorts a day later as session time approached. Even with her unease, however, she wanted to begin the session early, as she’s been doing lately. She also thought of giving me the night off, by way of celebrating a bit because I’ve finished the notes for Mass Events, but I told her I’d rather keep the sessions going as long as both of us feel like it. [...]

Chapter 3: Seth discussed CU’s much more extensively in Session 889. In Session 890 see his material on both EE units and CU’s. While reading tonight’s material, the reader might keep these brief passages from that session in mind: “Each unit of consciousness (or CU) intensifies, magnifies its own intents to be—and, you might say, works up from within itself an explosive spark of primal desire that “explodes” into a process that causes physical materialization. [...]

1. I also kept track of Jane’s progress as she wrote the Introduction for Mass Events. She finished that excellent piece of work seven months ago—a few days before she delivered the first formal session for the Preface to Dreams, the 881st, on September 25, 1979. See the opening notes for that session, in Volume 1.

(No session was held last Wednesday night because Jane and I were so busy checking the copyedited manuscript for James. [...] It was raging stronger than ever as we sat for the session at 9:15; drifts were piled several feet high against the northern side of the house, and against our new screened-in back porch facing the west. [...]

(We waited for the session to begin for an hour and four minutes — something neither of us could recall having done in the past. [...] But if I don’t have a session tonight, then in the next one I’ll want to know why it didn’t happen this time. [...]

(And those strange feelings of Jane’s are precisely why we’re presenting this session in Mass Events, even though it isn’t book dictation. [...] The session contains just the kind of insights we’re always looking for as we seek to understand the whole ambience of the Seth experience, and when we receive such information we want others to know about it too. [...]

[...] In this session, in the words I speak — but more importantly in the atmosphere of the session — there are hints of those undecipherable yet powerful realities that will then, in your time, gradually be described in verbal terms that make sense to you.

One is from a private session, two are from “nonbook” regular sessions, and one is from Dreams itself.)

(This session was held later the same day as the 360th session, and again was not planned. [...]

(This is the first time Jane held two sessions in one day, even though both were relatively brief. This second session is also unique in her experience, and promises well for the future. [...]

(Jane said later that Mr. Van Over’s comments concerning W C during the session were distracting; she has made this remark before after sessions; it seems the mere sound of another voice can disrupt the flow of data, unless she has specifically asked for comment from witnesses.

(During this time I was watching Jane in an attempt to determine whether we should call a halt to the session. [...] She did not want to, however, in our location, and just as I was on the point of suggesting that she end the session, she called a halt to it herself. [...]

[...] This evening’s session will be a brief one. We will hold Wednesday’s session as usual. [...] I am indeed pleased that this was a quiet session, and I prefer that sessions this week be fairly brief. [...]

(The session was held in our quiet back room. Jane spoke while sitting down and with her eyes closed for the entire session. Her voice was quiet, picking up a little volume as the session progressed. [...]

There is something here we will discuss at a later date, concerning the rhythms within these sessions, for they follow certain inner rhythms of activity, and I am always concerned that we use these to advantage. In some cases this entails longer and more intensive sessions. At other times it involves shorter sessions, particularly when I have some eye out for future events. [...]

We will hold Wednesday’s session, however. [...] We have had quite intensive sessions for some time now, and I simply prefer that you are allowed a rest before your trip.

(In the 232nd session for February 9,1966 Seth suggested that a portion of a session a month be devoted to our psychic and physical circumstances. He agreed with my suggestion that we try the first session after the first of each month. [...] This material is on file and available to anyone studying these sessions.

(The 42nd envelope experiment was held during the session. [...] The object is the insurance receipt for the tape of the 170th session, which was sent to Dr. Instream on July 23,1965. [...]

[...] Peg was also due for the 242nd session but did not appear. In that session Seth told us she did not come because of “A change of plans. [...]

(Since we wanted Seth to discuss this prediction, this gave us the idea of checking up on some other recent session material. I wrote up the notes on these and read them to Jane just before session time, thinking that if Seth didn’t cover all the points this evening, at least a beginning could be made.

[...] Again, many events are gathering as the result of our sessions, and certain activities taking place at other levels of activity during what you might think of as our usual session times. [...] (Long pause.) In a way the material that Ruburt is receiving will also open new doorways even as far as our sessions are concerned. [...]

(“I don’t feel I need a session tonight,” she said, “or that I have an obligation to have one. I just want to check in and see what’s been going on since Monday” —and she was quite surprised when I told her she hadn’t had a session since last Thursday.)

[...] This, then, must be the shortest session Jane has held in years. “I told him that he could have the session be as long as he wanted,” Jane said as soon as she was out of trance. [...]

(After the last session, which was held six days ago now, I realized I’d forgotten to ask Seth a question that had been on my mind for some weeks: I wanted his comments on Jane’s swollen feet. [...]

(As I type each session from my notes, I file it in one of two series of numbered three-ring binders. We’re up to Volume 77 for the “regular” and book sessions, and Volume 22 for the private or “deleted” material. Here’s the note Jane wrote this morning and inserted in Volume 77, where I’m keeping a few sheets of paper to record the next session: “Something from Seth over the weekend—only got a little—something about earth’s grid of perception being so constructed that…. [...]

[...] Seth, in Session 705 for June 24, 1975, in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality: “There is no transmigration of souls, in which the entire personality of a person ‘comes back’ as an animal. [...] In Note 2 for Session 840, in Mass Events, I’m quoting Seth from the 838th session for March 5, 1979: “I want to avoid tales of the transmigration of the souls of men to animals, say—a badly distorted version of something else entirely.”

Jane gave her first spoken answer for Seth early in the 8th session for December 15. Although she was by then receiving quick mental answers to many of our questions in the sessions, often she was still cautiously verifying those responses by having at least their beginnings spelled out letter by letter upon the board. (I’d started writing down everything in the very first session.)

(“In a session I’m working with now for Mass Events—the 837th, about the death of our cat, Billy One, a year ago—you said there wasn’t any such thing as a cat consciousness, per se.”³ Seth nodded. “Tonight’s session reminds me of that one. [...]
